The only problem that I found when letting your goalie save for you it lets in a lot of questionable goals that you would normally save. If you use the button yourself for example, I saw shot will balance off your pads your spread to the target and it just somehow manages to go into the crease your own defense scores on you all the time, etc. etc.

Can you explain the L2 how to use it as a goalie?

Old controls have speed boost like older games, just press down left stick, your rapid in goal
