They are DEDs (digitally enhanced dashboard). Digital ads that overlay literal ads on the rink board for viewers. I imagine it will be targeted 1on1 ads in the near future.

I thought there were some assholes behind the boards pulling clear graphics over the boards through out the entire rink but this guy is telling me they are digital. I don't know seems crazy to me

Actually Mark Giodano was the captain last year. This year they decided to only go with the alternate route and pick one next year.

What are you even talking about? If you know anything about hockey history, you will have at least a general idea, about the dichotomy between the expansions of the past and the ones in the last few years. How many players did each team get to protect, in the last 2 expansions? (7) Compare that to the 6 to 12 team expansion and the ones that followed and it is clear, why Vegas and Seattle have been succsess stories. Those other teams had to go a long time before becoming contenders. The Flyers took around 7 years and the islanders had a similar time, before winning Stanley Cups. Everyone else, except the Oilers, who joined with 3 other established teams, it took until 1989 for the Calgary Flames/Atlanta to win, 91 for the Penguins. 96 for Colorado/Quebec. 95 for the Devils/Colorado Rockies/Kansas City Scouts. 99 for Dallas/Minnesota. Others, like Vancouver, Winnipeg, Phoenix, Atlanta(2 teams), Minnesota(2 teams) Florida, Hartford, Ottawa, Quebec, Clevland and Columbus have never won, in the NHL. And around half, no longer have a team. If I was to go far back, before the "Original 6" I could list many more. The point is, any of those expansion teams, who got an expansion draft, would kill to go back and have the same rules, that Vegas and Seattle had. P.S. As somebody who watched the Kraken games vs Edmonton this year I really dont want to see Grubauer vs Draisaitl, just give me Vegas please if we make it past game 7, keep Draisaitl and McDavid as far away from the Kraken as possible

I think it was more a reference to how good Seattle is at allowing goals so SOON after they score one. If it's like ten minutes later it doesn't usually get called an answer.

That's where the power comes from. When you take a slap shot you are hitting the ice first and the stick is "rebounding" into the puck when unflexing. That's where the power is. When I was 7 and learning to play, it took a while to grasp that concept. LOL

These players are incredibly good. You can't really see it because they're playing against players of similar caliber. But if they were playing against ones that were just one level down they'd look way better because they'd suddenly have all sorts of time to do things. And they're shots are to a large extent a gift. Sure they've practiced a lot but a lot of it can't be taught. And the stiffness of the sticks varies. Most of these guys are using stiff sticks so the fact they can get them to flex so much is even more incredible. Phil Kessel used a freakishly low stiffness stick, a 45 I believe, which is like something an adolescent would use. But it sure worked for him. An average amateur player might use a 75. Most professionals will be above that or they'd break the stick. And these new carbon fire sticks are unbelievably good. There are videos on KZfaq saying that a $60 or $80 stick will be indistinguishable from a $300 stick to most non pro players. That's complete nonsense. I bought a repaired CCM SuperTacks 2.0 a few years ago (Hockey Stick Man near me takes broken sticks form Major Junior A and the NHL and repairs them and sells them cheap). I couldn't believe how hard and accurate my shot was with that stick. I started asking other players about it and they all said everybody knows that stick is like that. It's a few years later now and if you go watch the new stick review videos the newest CCM is supposedly head and shoulders above the competition. And lastly, the sticks they are using are Pro Stock. They're a little stronger then retail. I can buy these up here in Toronto and they're a little cheaper then regular sticks. When they make sticks for the pros they supply them with a lot of them and then the player inspects them and only keeps the ones he likes. The rest are sold as Pro Stock for a discount. Also, a player may prefer a stick that came out a couple years ago and so will still use that. The manufacturer doesn't sell that stick to the public anymore so they put the labeling on the stick that is the same as the new stuff they sell. So the sticks and skates and whatnot that these players are using is often not what it's labeled to look like. McDavid for instance liked the CCM Super Tacks 2.0 stick so much that he was using it at least 2 years after it had been replaced. I heard this by talking to people. I live in Toronto and this place is hockey crazy central. You could play indoor hockey every single day of the year here. The hockey equipment stores don't notice a difference in sales because of the season. It's 24/7 hockey here. I can drive a short distance to an indoor hockey arena and for $7 play 2 hours of shiny around lunch time each week day. It's the best thing about living in Toronto. I also play at outdoor rinks. Get this. Toronto has 52 outdoor rinks that have refrigeration pads underneath them and zambonis to clean and resurface the ice. Everybody just shows up and plays in the evenings. Most players are average but some are really gifted. Sometimes prospects playing in college or wherever, show up because their parents live nearby. Covid F'd everything up but it should be back to normal now. I'll be 60 in a couple months and sure wish I could play like when I was under 35. Now I get so stiff afterwards I can barely walk. Lol. I have to face that soon I won't be able to play at all anymore and not too long after that I won't even be alive anymore. Lol. Time flies.

I get the impression these guys flex it more than most, for any of the mentioned reasons, or at least that's my impression from other game highlights. Like I said, I don't know much about hockey so everything I say is wild assumptions. I practiced for some months because they built an ice rink close to my parents and had someone lent me the equipment, and even then, since I was 15, I had to go to training at 11pm on Sundays or some something, it was tough. Maybe they did told me to flex the stick (the American coach and his Russian sidekick) but maybe it sounded wild and the sticks are relatively expensive so I didn't follow perhaps, can't be sure though. It is in deed an interesting sport, I'm sorry for what happened to the Maple Leafs BTW, thanks for the replies.

the idea is you overpower them with more people, and keep the puck in the offensive zone or just outside of it. makes it a harder shot
