red wings fan here: we got so extremely lucky tonight with a lot of plays. we got extremely lucky to have gotten a point out of this game. i’m still extremely proud of how we hung around despite getting absolutely clapped looking at those SOG totals. edmonton is a great team, and i expected this game to be a non-contest. good word, oilers.

Time to give Rodrigue the call up tho, if they aren’t gonna trade for a legit 1B then give the kid a chance he deserves it and the Oilers need 2 good goalies now that they are in a playoff spot or in the picture they need that 1B goalie that they can play in any game and get good goaltending!! It’s important now cause they can’t keep running Skinner like they have been, if Rodrigue came in and plays like he has shown he can in the AHL, then he can take 35%- 40% of the remaining games and then Skinner is healthy and not burnt out come playoffs, plus if Skinner struggles you have a guy that can give you great goaltending and it’s not a situation like last year where the coach doesn’t trust his other goalie so he has no choice but to keep a struggling over played Skinner in the net!! or if Skinner gets hurt it doesn’t mean the seasons over!! It’s important to get Rodrigue up now so he can get a decent amount of games under his belt before playoffs start!! Really hope management doesn’t drop the ball on this !! And if they don’t call him up then they better get a legit 1B asap cause waiting much longer isn’t smart, you want who ever you get here asap so he can get use to the team and the systems as soon as possible not just a month before playoffs start! as soon as I saw the hand pass I figured it wasn't a goal. same thing happened to the leafs before, Rielly batted it down and was checked before he could touch it, marner gets it and scores and it was waved off. It's annoying but part of the strategy is actually to check somebody who gloves it so they can't play the puck, meaning their team can't touch it either. At the time it was frustrating, but at least these two were consistent (don't know about other calls)

Don't want to over analysis things, but earlier in the season the Oilers would have folded after being turned back time and again by a hot goalie, then made a mental mistake and made a defensive blunder than would cost them the game. I had the feeling they buckled down defensively, sensing if they could just prevent a bad goal on their end, they would eventually be rewarded at the other end. I think this marks a big step in their maturity, confidence, and discipline and hopefully will propel them through the playoffs. Also hats off to Lyon. I always cheer Oilers first, goalie second, so unfortunately you needed to lose this one.

EDM shouldn't have won this game. The dude closed the hand on the puck on that goal that was denied. it should have been a PP for DET. 8seconds left in the 3rd period when that happened so DET would have won in OT on the PP.
