The Score did it back in the early 2000's here in Canada, so its not an original concept. It started even before the NBA did it, but once Score lost their NHL rights the other networks didn't adopt it for some reason. It think had something to do with regional broadcast rights agreement. ESPN doesn't have that problem due to exclusive national broadcast rights.

I really love that you celebrate hockey like this. It´s an amazing game and the players are just built different. It doesn´t matter what round you were drafted or what your paycheck is, everyone is putting his body on the line. And (especially in the playoffs) if there is any chance a guy can play, that guy is on the ice. A few teeth missing after a puck or stick to the face? After the next intermission the player is back, unless it is a truly horrifying injury. Just look at the headlines of the last couple of years. For example Matthew Tkachuck played with a broken sternum and at some point could not get his equipment on himself or tie his own skates. But he still played a game. Or the year before that, Draisaitl had a high ankle sprain that would usually take weeks to months to heal and he still played over 22 minutes a game (and produced big time). And most hockey players are basically all wired the same way.

It's expensive. That's the only reason why it isn't more popular. For a sport to get real popular kids have to be able to grow up playing it, and it's too expensive for a lot of kids to play, especially in most of the country where it doesn't get cold enough in winter to play outside. Compare hockey to sports like soccer and football, which anyone with a ball and a field can play.

I love how at 6:12 he goes from a Scottish accent to a Chris Berman impersonation to a Canadian accent and back to a Scottish accent without breaking a sweat.

Third season for the Seattle Kraken and the support for the sport is huge up here. The Pacific Northwest has grown into a hockey hotbed since I have moved here in 1999. Western Hockey League has two new arenas in the area and Climate Pledge Arena is a shining light for New Arenas in the NHL. They said that the footprint for the old downtown arena was too small. They kept the roof and built DOWN!!!!! The NBA is eyeing Seattle for a remake of the Sonics. All because of hockey and their new arena. Great job, NHL! Go Kraken!

As a Canadian it's "nice" that you finally figured out that hockey is truly THE GREATEST sport on the planet. The most important thing said it that segment was "do ANYTHING to stop a goal". Yup, that's the attitude. Have it or sit in the stands.

I've loved hockey simce I was a kid and Guy LaFluer was playing for Montreal without a helmet!!! I've played hockey for many years and will still dawn the skates in my advanced years. I have been a fan of the Montreal Canadians, New York Islanders, Boston Bruins and now for the past 20 years the Ottawa Senators... But I love this segment, the more people that fall in love with this sport can only be a good thing... Keep these segments coming, you all rock!!!

Thank you ESPN for having hockey on the regular on ESPN+, because before that it was insanely hard for me to watch it unless I was able to make it to a game. And I agree with Pat, more people should watch this sport. In fact, it's the only sport that my wife can sit and watch an entire game of.
