Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne both went to Colorado at the end of their careers. Kariya retired and Teemu went back to Anaheim to retire. That's also when Giguere played for the Avs. The video of them skating around after his last game was pretty memorable.

Imagine if the St. Louis Blues' signed Gretzky for three more years to play with Brett Hull, Grant Fuhr, Chris Pronger, Al Macinnis, Pierre Turgeon, Pavel Demitra and Geoff Courtnall. Jesus, that team would have been lethal and would have regularly competed for cups against NJ, COL, DET during that era

Remember when Doug Gilmour played for the Leafs for the 2nd time in 2003? Leafs fans were super excited that Dougie was back playing for the blue and white. He played one game for a total of five minutes and suffered a permanent knee injury......boy what a letdown that was.

I remember Gretzky when he played for the blues, strangely that’s how I recognize him the most. Though I’m a red wings fan. Yzerman ringing that puck off the bar to score and That 96/97 Stanley cup run was truly a special time in Detroit. If you weren’t there to experience it there’s no words to explain it.

I was living in Michigan as a kid when the Red Wings won the cup in 1997 against Eric Lindros and the Flyers. It was the season that introduced me to hockey and made me a fan to this day. Im a Southerner from Georgia and had lived up there due to my mother marrying and living with her now ex-husband up there. Steve Yzerman and Eric Lindros are forever cemented into my mind due to this as two of my favorites other than Sergei Fedorov.

For me it was more random that Grant Fuhr played for the Blues when Gretzky was traded there than it was that Gretzky played there.

Although he didn't actually play a final game with Ottawa unfortunately, as much as I wish he would have played one last game with Ottawa. He just participated in the warm up. Although I am glad he retired as an Ottawa Senator

Mike Modano returned to his hometown team the Red Wings for his last season. Alfredsson finished in Detroit as well. Chris Chelios was an Atlanta Trasher. Ed Belfour finished his career in Florida with the Panthers. Bobby Orr was a Black Hawk for the last 2 seasons of his career. Dominik Hasek played for the Senators.

Great video. Just wanted to say that Brodeur’s last game was actually a loss to the ducks on 1-2-15, four days after that Colorado shutout. I was lucky enough to be there in person to see the legend play once more before he retired. Thanks again for the content!

The Leafs had quite a few in the early 2000's...Tom Barasso, Owen Nolan, Brian Leetch, Ron Francis, Phil Housley, etc. They traded draft picks for these long-toothed stars from 10 years previous which is the reason they became a tire fire for the next 10+ years

Many people might have forgotten, Adam Oates after Washington also played for random teams, Oates played for the Flyers, Ducks and Oilers all for a brief time.

Very interesting, I had forgotten about Bret Hull with the Coyotes. How about Mike Modano's time with the Redwings? Then there's the greatest Canuck of them all, Trevor Linden, who had brief stints with the Habs, Islanders, and the Capitals before returning to Vancouver. Interestingly enough, this coincides with Mark Messier's brief and dismal time in Vancouver. Where the press, the fans, and the team, resented Messier and hated Mike Keenan.

Trevor Lindens short stint with the Islanders, Caps and Canadians was also one for sure. Also Matt Sunden retiring with the Vancouver Canucks after playing the majority of his NHL career with the Leafs. Also Markus Naslund retiring after one year with the Rangers.

2 Of my favourite players of all time played for random teams at the end of their career Markus Naslund spent his final year in New York and Daniel Alfredsson played his final year in Detroit both were pretty weird to see Edit: also Mats Sundin on the canucks and its not like they were bad in their final years it was just weird to see them playing for a different team

I never understood what Federov's deal was. Detroit had so many great Russians on the team at that time why was he so interested in leaving? He could've without question been the third best Red Wing in history pushing very close to Yzermans numbers. He had one good year after leaving Detroit then he was never the same player again. There was vague rumours of him coming back in like 07 I think and I was allll for it just because of the good days of the late 90s. Federov was my first favorite player just so explosive on the ice. Who can possibly forget the night he scored all 5 goals in a 5-4 win over the caps...and IN OT at that. That season had so many unforgettable Red Wing moments.....

Sergei Fedorov has to be my most favorite player of all time in the NHL. When I used to play NHL 07 on PS2, I played franchise mode with the Chicago Blackhawks and I got Fedorov in a trade with Columbus and instantly made him my C captain at the start of the season. By the end of the season, my Blackhawks had defeated the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup finals. My alt Captains were Trevor Linden and Eric Lindros. Having acquired them in a series of trades to improve the Blackhawks. I even acquired Sergei's younger brother Fedor, who was a rookie in this game, had him play in the AHL to develop as i planned to have him in my lineup in the future. In newer NHL games like NHL 22, i play BoP mode to have more realism and tend to play as a sniper center. Sergei is a player who could do things that Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky could not. This man is now in the NHL HoF and his #91 needs to be retired in Detroit.

You bring up Paul Coffey but fail to mention he also played for the Blackhawks which I find absolutely insane as a Hawks fan for the last 40 years. Here are some other crazy ones: Paul Coffey, Blackhawks, Bruins Ed Belfour, Sharks Wendell Clark, Blackhawks Peter Bondra, Blackhawks Bobby Orr, Blackhawks Bobby Hull, Whalers, Rangers Brett Hull, Flames Mike Modano, Red Wings Daniel Alfredsson, Red Wings Guy Lafleur, North Stars (technically didn't play a game)

Lifelong Red Wings fan here since the 80's, other members part of the Russian Five other than Sergei Fedorov also played for random teams too. Igor Larionov had brief stints with Vancouver and San Jose before before being dealt to Detroit plus after Detroit Igor Larionov also had a very short stint with the Florida Panthers during the 99-2000 season before eventually he was back to Detroit again the following year in 00-01 to 02-03, many people may not have known Igor Larionov would play for the New Jersey Devils during the 03-04 season then the NHL lockout in 04-05 before eventually retired. Next member of the Russian Five also played for random teams is Slava Kozlov, after Detroit Slava Kozlov would be dealt to the Sabres in exchange for hall of fame goalie Dominik Hasek, however Slava Kozlov's stint in Buffalo would be short lived as he would go on to becoming a free agent then signing with the Atlanta Thrashers where he would finish out his NHL career.

I got to see Louis Domingue play here in Atlanta for the Gwinett Gladiators (Now Atlanta Gladiators) for the ECHL. At the time, they were the affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes and the Gladiator unis resembled the Coyotes's maroon red and white unis they used to wear but with Gwinett name in a diagonal fashion like the New York Rangers jerseys on the front. Crazy thing is that i regret buying at the shop there was seeing Brendan Shanahan's actual stick he used and signed and I could have afforded it too but i declined it and went for a Gladiators t-shirt instead since i needed the money to last me awhile :(

The bigger part of Federov story career is that he SWITCHED TO DEFENSE for a while, and the move to Washington to play with their Russians lead by Ovechkin was probably a pretty special cherry on top, coming into the league with a strong Russian team presence, as well as going out with one.

Kevin Stevens had travelled a bit after leaving the Penguins. I think he went to the New York Rangers, got in serious trouble, and ended up in Boston… On a side note, I think John Leclair finished his career as a Penguin, not a Flyer or a Canadian.

Montreal forced Lafleur to retired as he was playing around 5-6 mins ice time per game avg. during his final season there and refused to traded him elsewhere.

Fyodorov's holdout in 97 was about money, it also did result in the Fyodorov rule which forces RFA's to sign by December 1 or not be allowed to play for rest of season. The Wings weren't offering him what he was worth. That did create tension between him and Holland/Develano. Fyodorov leaving in 03 wasn't entirely about money, he went to Anaheim for slightly less than what Detroit offered. Also his Russian budies were gone. Fetisov - Retired Konstantinov - Retired/injury Kozlov - Traded Larionov - UFA not being signed by Detroit Fyodorov also didn't particularly like being in Yzerman's shadow. Neither is him going to Washingon random, at that time Washington had 2 of the best young Russians stars in Ovechkin and Semin. That wasn't the end of his career either as he'd play 3 more years in the KHL for Magnitogorsk. Is that random? Nope, he got to play with his brother for one of the best teams in the league. Many of these weren't exactly random. "Forgotten teams of star players" would be more accurate. Another for exampled played junior and college in Boston area. Hull's connection to Phoenix you mentioned within the video. Prior to Keanan throwing Gretzky under the bus, there was a very large chance of Gretzky coming back. Coffey didn't even play long in hartford either. He played 20 games in hartford and played 10 in Chicago

Coffey also spent 10 games with the hawks. Whalers had alot of talent just could never mesh the team together. Makes you wonder how poorly the upper management ran the team
