Had he played first 3 games as well as he has been these last 2, he could have pulled Giguere and won Conn Smythe without winning cup but his horrendeous first 2-3 games make it impossible for him to win Smythe without winning the cup.

So Wayne Gretzkys Personal statistical bests did not always translate into Stanley Cup winning years. So as much as its fun to see Connor break Records....I want to see a Stanley Cup even more.

Every game in the Finals is tough for any team to win. Especially elimination games.

No disrespect to Gretzky but he played against goalies that weren’t great. He’s still the goat of his era but this current era with how good defensemen are and the overall speed, it’s so much harder.

In 1980s NHL 8 goals per game! Today only 6 goals per game NHL! You can not compare todays numbers to high scoring 1980s! Connor McDavid is better than Gretzky! If Auston Matthews had played In 1982 he would had scored over 100 goals easily beating Gretzky's 92 goal record! Ovechkin ERA only 5,3-6 goals per game NHL! If Ovechkin had played high scoring 1980s he would had scored over 1200 goals! Reggie Leach and Jari Kurri 19 goals play-offs record! But the best must be Joe Malone who scored 44 goals in 20 games! We can not compare Gretzky Malone McDavid because in 1980s the most goals ever per game!

You really can't compere the Gretzky era to today's NHL. The talent level in the league is so much higher today, and the goalies are head and shoulders better than the goalies in the 80s. If you could somehow put McDavid in the 80s, he'd literally skate circles around teams.
