It's a shame, that one of the most important things is missing in this video - the sound. Mainly in the european part, because even if the pictures and short clips are looking great, the actual chanting and "singing" of the crowd is one of the main differences between North America and European style. In north america, most teams have only one or two things like "go team x go" etc and you can hear it only few times in the match etc, whereas most european fans have dozens of them and they are chanting and roaring the entire match and it makes the atmosphere so great. Even though i would really like to visit NHL match live one day, because it is special in some ways and even the atmosphere there can be great (but really different) i am glad that i live in europe (when it comes to hockey)

Football is the biggest and one of the oldest sports in Europe. The supporter culture has crossed over to hockey as well. In Sweden, Germany, Austria and Switzerland where football is huge as well as hockey, a lot of supporters follow both sports and bring the same passion that has been a part of football over to hockey. Flags, scarves, banners and chants are a massive part of football and hockey in Europe. And sports are more of a working class pastime. While you do get suits in the stands in Europe, the clubs have gone out of their way to have cheaper tickets so that everyone can enjoy it. The clubs put a huge emphasis on fans and fan culture since having a loud crowd at home is intimidating for the visitors and creates an exciting atmosphere.

This is part of the reason why I refuse to watch NHL and just stick to European hockey. It's not all business, the fans are better, and I like the big ice game more anyway. And I'm from the States...I remember pulling an all nighter for one of Medveščak's games last year on the road against Amur, something I never did for an NHL team. If I want North American hockey, I will take college any day. It's the only version of the sport here in North America with passion.

and just a reminder that everyone knows....nhl know shit about celebrations....clapping hands, chanting things like "go team go" baching the glass for bad calls etc....talk about not feeling the game! where are the flags, team chants, people going nuts, the jumping, the tifo etc....and don´t give me crap about things like that disturbs the game....I´ve been to SC playoffs...fans there could not inspire a curling team in africa.

The NHL has more fans during games. But in europe, fans singing, jumping and do crazy things and never take breaks. The NHL fans only use applause for the most times...

Size doesn't matter. Europeans have more heart than any amount of americans/canadians can beat. Where they beat us on the ice we beat them tenfolds on the grandstand. Less is more. Much more in some occations. But fore some years now europe have beat NHL on the ice internationaly so i don't know if we really are being beaten there ;) Europe is catching up on that part year after year now.

I think the German Hockey League DEL is on an low Level but 200 of this supporters(not importing from which Team they are)make more noise as this 20.000 NHL "fans" in an NHL Game.That same say the most NHL Players where come to Europe on his last Days that the atmosphere in Switzerland,Austria,Germany,finnland,sweden or other european countrys are much more better as in the NHL.

Im Finn and i once visited Boston and went to Bruins - Senators hockey match and i have to say the feeling was good there. When Bruins scored, totally random American hugged me like they've won stanley cup. But have to say one thing, So big arenas, so little voice.

As a Scot who's countrymen spread football all over the world and who also helped to (along with our Irish cousins) started the first (ice) hockey in Canada, why can we not just be grateful for all the differences. I love the North American approach to hockey but I also love the Russian and European spectacles as shown here. Providing no one gets hurt it is all great imo.

In USA American football and baseball and basketball are the main sports, there are lots of Hockey teams in the US but Hockey barley gets any footage I wish they broadcast some European hockey games too. I am Canadian and here hockey is not only entertainment it's a way of life, I really want to come to Europe and see a European hockey game because it seems like a really awesome environment to be in.

I think fans enjoy their team, it's a personal thing. When you get here to Europe , it's like "have I been missing out on this all the time"? It's a whole different fan culture here in Europe and think they brought it from soccer. A hockey game here is exciting on a whole different level.

I have been in Toronto watching a nhl game. Today im going to a game also. Jokerit vs HIFK in hartwall areena. Its gonna be a great game. Even if Helsinki is a small city compared to North American cities. We get pretty much ppl to those games.

if you want to see the difference just look at tis video or some other videos from fans from different teams in Europe. Just search something like Europe Hockey Ultras or Sweden, Germany and Switzerland Hockey Ultras. You will see some great fans, stuff you just would not see in NHL.
