Son of one of the crew members here; they had complete failure of their safety systems. Remote shutoff held by the crew chief didn’t work so the car remained under power after the motor blew. Unsure why the chutes didn’t deploy, but as we know the brakes don’t matter much at that speed without the help of chutes, especially after a nasty wall hit like that. The car was tight and operating as intended all day so everyone over there is as confused as us fans are.

Thanks for the inside information, the Goat has been in many crashes but this one is really odd as you mentioned and I have been to these races. I wonder if they will start converting the concrete barriers like NASCAR impact cushions. I remember when I was a kid when they first deployed those concrete barriers and here we are 2024 crashes like this can cause some internal damage. I think it was right for NASCAR to convert their barriers. I wonder if NHRA will do the same, especially the goat is a high profile driver

Been saying that for years, I think it would be a win win for everyone My hope would be to see NHRA negotiate a deal with track owners to sidestep costs and get em on, BEST HOPES TO JOHN AND FAMILY GOD BLESS EVERYONE

This was the big one that ended John's career as he has been transitioned into a neurological intensive care unit and is fighting for his life.

Doesn't look like it, and NHRA is going to be looking into that big time. They should have deployed automatically.

Wow they need safer barriers like nascar has 😬

Totally agree, with the Goat being a high profile and legendary driver NHRA needs to update the barriers. That’s another reason why they reduced the track from 1/4 mile to a 1000ft to reduce speeds because those tracks were built before the speed and technology advances.

They reduced to a 1000ft because the last 320 ft was wear the worst sh#t happens
