Wonderful tutorial. I've watched many on Massive, but I love that is one isn't "how to make dubstep/gnarly sounds". Great stuff

This is so helpful, because now I don't have to rely on stock presets or presets online that are going to be used by hundreds of other artists.

Very well explained. Nice focus on actually explaining Massive's features, not gabbing on about "what I like to do is ....". Very brilliant! Thanks Chris.

Worth noting for anyone really new to this, the envelope's mod depth ranges from 0 to 1, whereas the LFO mod depth ranges from -1 to 1, so with the settings applied here, we were only hearing half of the LFO's full range, which is why it wasn't truly sinusoid and the filter cutoff spent twice as long at the bottom than it did at the top.

Calling it subtractive is a bit if an understatement. Isn't it a wavetable synth (with the usual subtractive filtering you find in some FM synths)?
@th3soundmachinz
@th3soundmachinz 3 жыл бұрын
This guy is completely wrong when it comes into him saying that NI Massive is a subtractive synth. Literally basic research of Subtractive synthesis, and Wavetable synthesis proves what type of a synth massive is.

Didnt quite get the impact of reducing the LFO green bar, apart from that this is super helpful ill be playing around to figure all this out i think. Between this and Tom Cosm’s baseline series using abletons oscillators i think i have enough to practice with for days!!

When you assign two modulation parameters to the filter cutoff, it almost sounds like there are 2 filters now effecting the sound- does this actually split the sound into two differently filtered outputs that combine to make the overall sound?
@dudleygray3088
@dudleygray3088 4 жыл бұрын
Probably not. Massive still only sends one output into your DAW. So it should just create movement within your sound. As long as the filters dont cancel each other out.
@brandonboschofficial
@brandonboschofficial 8 жыл бұрын
How did you get the reaktor oscillator routed to Massive so as to receive it's output?
@mintskii
@mintskii 8 жыл бұрын
It's a Reaktor FX, so automatically receives the audio from the channel on which it is applied. FX are different from the standard Reaktor ensembles in that they don't generate their own sounds, and only effect the incoming audio on the channel like any other effect.

This is great tut! However, modulation in any VST is a fraction of what you can do in a good DAW. Plus, the DAW modulation process is the same for every VST. I look forward to VERY simple VSTs with no effects or built in modulation. Just totally open to the DAW automation and midi modulation.
@raimesey

Jeremy Daw I couldn’t disagree with this any more!
@TheFujac
@TheFujac 5 жыл бұрын
lol....that's just making things more difficult and slowing down workflow....DAW modulation of VSTs is a good thing if you run out of modulation options in your VSTor want to modulate something that the unit doesn't offer but other than that it's barely necessary..

I want to do one survey here. When you use massive, somtimes you might need to find out the sound preset that match with your requirements. I think it really bother you to load all massive presets if you can't do sound desing properly for your needs. I have some possible solution for this matter, I would export all sample sounds of massive in audio format, so you can listen in your phone at any time. I give the audio file name as same as massive preset name. So If you like particular sound, then you can simply find it in massive. How about that work? Please answer me it will be helpful or not coz it 's a ton of works and take a lot of time to export all massive audio files. Thanks.

So in the HPF - high pass - the high frequencies are cutoff, and you hear more of the low frequencies. In the LPF - low pass - the low frequencies are cutoff, and you hear more of the high frequencies.
