For me, in jrpgs, portability is more important than graphics. I rarely finish jrpgs on console or pc, but on handhelds i always find time for them.

True for me aswell. I don't mind grinding and leveling up on handheld, I find it more tedious and time consuming on not portable consoles

Agreed, i actually bout this game once before on ps3 and got 5 hours in, but i hated sitting at my desk grinding in such a pokemon like game, i wanted to lay down so bad and play. Now that it's on sale for $13 it's a must buy! Heavy action jrpgs like neir Replicant i can play at my desk for hours and be fine, but more slow paced relaxed ones like this or more enjoyed laying back or inna seat.

I absolutely adore the animated cutscenes in this game. It was a crime that they omitted them in the sequel.

They didn't omitted them. Ghibli Studio (who realized the cutscenes) didn't signed for the second episode

@@bol2pate Omit was a wrong word to use, I meant that it was a crime that they didn't make any period. The animated cutscenes in NnK1 was part of the charm that made you feel like you were playing a Ghibli movie. NnK2 not having them, objectively made the game worse by default in my opinion, or at the very least the lesser product.

Played it for like 10 hours so far, graphics are gorgeous. definitely one of my favorite switch games now. Can’t wait for the host of other games coming like Overwatch, Witcher, Town, Dragon Quest, Luigi’s Mansion, Pokémon, Eastward, and Animal Crossing.

This game is from 2011. They did not change the art for this. The graphics on this stands out as amazing even almost a full decade later. This game is really a masterpiece.

Level-5 always does a phenomenal job on their games! Visuals - It’s so detailed and just gorgeous all the way around! Just to name a few: Fantasy Life 3DS, Professor Layton games, & Yokai Watch. Love them all!

If you are absolutely clueless about jrpgs and want to try anything of the genre please PLEASE try this game as your first. I myself played this as my first all the way back and I fucking loved it. Its a very sad and good story with simple game mechanics for you to understand without feeling too easy. I fr cried so hard when i finished the game cuz it impacted me THAT much. I could go even further about why this game is just so good. Just take my word and play this gamee

I got the game and I love it. The only bug sI've found are some x-fighting glitches such as the entire ocean disappearing near Yule and the water in the Vault of Tears glitching with the ground. The only other one I've suffered from is the spontaneous crashes, yeah. It was very annoying when it crashed half way through the Golden Grove but since then I've been an obsessive saving wreck.

I got Nintendo Switch last week and this is my first Switch Game. I always wanted to play this back in PS3 times, but somehow I never get the chance. Until now. I don't care if this is not remastered version, it still looks amazing. And ost is really good :)

I missed this one as I had a 360 durning that era. I’ve always been curious, and enjoyed the sequel. I skipped all the switch releases this month to make sure I can afford this one. Great review!

I was on the fence about this one, but your warm review convinced me, Juan. I think it might scratch that Earthbound itch. I have a huge backlog of Switch titles to get including DQXI, Witcher 3, and Darksiders 2, but I don't care. I'm a sucker for JRPGs especially for Ni No Kuni since I loved how it looked on the PS3. This review has definitely convinced me for sure.

Never heard of it before and didn't had a ps3, so I'm actually glad to have the possibility to experience it. They ported so much garbage and half-assed games on the Switch, it's nice to have that "hidden gem". Thanks for covering it. This and Dragon Quest are some sort of an rpg pinnacle and i think it improves the Switch enormously. We need more quality ports.

It was made by experienced artists and programmers. Basically the orignal game had alot of talent behind it in the first place before getting ported over.

Ni no Kuni was the first game I played that was this type of JRPG and it's what shaped my game choices today 😊 my absolute favourite type of game. So beautiful and so fulfilling to play 🥰 Ps it's okay to cry 😋

It’s wonderful. Gameplay-wise, it reminds me of Grandia II on the Dreamcast which I loved, mixed with Pokémon. Visually, you can’t ask for much better than Studio Ghibli’s art. 😊 (music and characters/story are excellent too).

As far as gameplay/mechanics, is this a good title for casual gamers or would it seem to complex? I'm thinking of getting this for my girlfriend as a present. She would absolutely love the art style, but she's not great with complex controls. She has played Animal Crossing and Mario Galaxy, but hasn't really played an RPG

I'd say its for casual players not that complex but I guess it depends on the player. I played rpg before like pokemon. There's two setting on the game to make it easier or harder

This is one of my favourite games because of studio Ghibli's involvement. Is looks amazing still. Because of the controversy in the day I missed out on the collectors edition. I did however get the wizards manual on ebay & d the best collectible I have of any game ever because it's identical. Complete with jewel in cover and you can actual use the book to play the game. I can't think of any other game where you can do something like that other than maps. I have kept it in pristine condition and I love it and the game.

Remember this game was originally on the 3ds. It could have looked much better on the ps3 but they kept it lower than they could have yet it's still beautiful.

Live in Taiwan. Oddly, sometimes Zi have to import games like Astral Chain because they have no English language support, or Ghostbusters because they aren’t being localized for an Eastern release. I’m in the upside down.

Honestly this game made me go back when I was a kid and fully able to immerse in my fantasy world! thats the effect it has on you, love this game But! Unfortunatly I had a big save bug when I played that made me ner ous everytime I would save cause it would often shut down the game and bring me to my last functionning save wich was far sometimes so yeah, save every 5 minutes and its ok lol

olivier tremblay 30 hours on and mine has had an error and shut down twice (once was right after grinding a while and catching a couple familiars). It’s a shame but like I said not too often. So-I too save pretty often just in case! I love this game though.

This has been going on sale in NA eshop recently. I really have been growing my physical games collection since 2020 after not collecting for years. I saw this on sale on Amazon at the same time as the eShop. It was a bit more expensive but having the physical cartridge and case is worth it in the long run.

I own this on Switch and PS4pro. I prefer it on Switch and not just because its portable. I actually think it looks better on Switch. Yes, Technically its superior on ps4pro of course, but the 4k or 1440p resolution does not match the lower resolution cutscenes and real-time environments and can be distracting. As where on Switch, everything just blends together nicely and reminds more of the original. Its just my personal opinion, but overall the Switch version just captures the art style and fluid animations of the original better because of the matching resolutions between cutscene and real-time transitions.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST RPGS I EVER PLAYED ON MY PS3. THE STORY ITSELF WAS SO MOVING AND BEAUTIFUL. I AM NOW PLAYING PART TWO BUT THEY KILLED THE VIBE OF PART ONE BECAUSE THEY ADDED THOSE WEIRD HIGGLEDIES LOL.

Plus, I have so many rpg games on my PS4 like final fantasy 15, dragon quest 11, tales of vesperia, kingdom hearts 3, hack series, and other rpgs that I have t finished yet because I am so busy with work, 😂✌️😂✌️

I’ve got Ni No Kuni 2 on PS4 for about a week or so now. Only put about 2 to 3 hours in so far, not because it’s bad, but because I’ve just been busy. Was thinking of getting this one as I can play on the go 🤔

Thank you for such a great review. I have played it on PS3 and simply loved it. I really want to play it again so have you played it on the PS4? I was wondering whether to get the remastered version on ps4 or the switch version. I prefer gaming on Switch now due to it’s portability but if the experience is not that great on the Switch then I will probably get it on PS4. Thank you once again.

Not played on PS4 but I understand there will be some upgrades in terms of visuals but for me I like to play on the move and in handheld so it really depends on what's important to you. For me I am happy to have the same game that it was on PS3 and have the advantage of portable play

Been a Playstation user all my life and for the past few months, I have been unable to take out time for gaming as life has become pretty busy so decided to get a Nintendo Switch last week and loving it so far. Got my first game as Breath kf the Wild and enjoying it so far. I was super excited to see Ni No Kuni as loved it on PS3. The handheld portability is a game changer for me. Could you please recommend any other good games on the Switch as I am new to the world of Nintendo. I have Mario Odyssey is a must buy after Zelda so that is on my mind. I personally love indies but then have friends that only like Triple AAA titles. So Hollow Knight is a must for indie Metroidvania fans. For triple AAA titles there are loads of good ones. Zelda, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 for online, Doom, Wolfenstein and many many more. JRPG wait for Dragon Quest on the 27th September. We have even compiled a list of 25 top JRPGs on switch on this channel.

I had a few weird glitches when I played the game, first shadar's face disappeared in cut scene, you could see straight through his hood, second was that when I was in hamilin (still in pig suit) drippy would go into an a-pose and flot after you instead of running.
