One of the best things about getting older (I'm 70) is, age gives you if you let it.....a kinda sense when you are 'out of your league'..and so, putting one's ego-mouth aside - y'all sit back, and just listen. I'm there....

This is an incredible solo. Is there a live recording of the whole track/concert? Also, since when did the Airmen have a percussionist?

Am I the only one that hears a Woody Shaw sound in this great man?

It''s funny how a professional in some other line of work can have a bad day...but not a musician? Babe Ruth is at the top of the list in strike outs, but still is recoginzed as one of the greatest.

I just saw him the other night, he was amazing, but I had to sit through a bunch of terrible warmup acts.

I guess katiexxmusic and ksyalxe have nothing better to do then to post the same comment on every one of Mr. Payton's KZfaq sites. Everyone has a bad day once in a while. Illness can be out of one's control. It's pretty sad to attribute one bad day to drugs without knowing the facts. You both need to get a life. It must have taken alot of time to post these remarks on every one of his youtube pages. lol

I'm the lead trpt player for cmu jazz lab. When we rehearsed with him, he sounded like he does in this video, absolutely amazing, great...But during the friday night performance it was completely the opposite. It was embarassing and made our hard work seem like a joke. I hope our big band was more of an inspiration to all the high school students than he was.

@katiexxmusic And I'm sure you were sounding like Freddie Hubbard that night? Please!!!!! Everyone has on and off nights, from a college jazz captain like yourself to a legend like Miles Davis. Please take your jive ass comments off this video. Is this a video of you little college big band concert? No, it's not--this video is completely unrelated to the gig you're talking about so please refrain from leaving comments of this nature of this and other videos of Mr. Payton.
