Nicholas Yust Fine Metal Art Hi Nicholas, you are really a professional artist! I hv some questions, did you ever do a live metal art performance, carrying those tools to the event venue? If yes, how do you solve the noise problem? For the tool (small grinder), what does it name and which type is it? Many thanks!!!

Hi Cu Wana and thank you for the kind words! I did a live performance on the Global Morning Show in Canada last year. You can see it here - globalnews.ca/video/3191670/turning-sheets-of-metal-in-to-beautiful-works-of-marks Grinding metal decoratively is usually going to create loud noise. The best way to handle this is to make sure you meet the local noise and dust ordinance requirements and offer the correct PPE to your audience. I generally use an Ingersoll-Rand air powered angle grinder with Roloc attachments. For larger patterns you can also use an electric grinder with 7" hook and loop pad and 3M Scotchbrite abrasives. The best way to learn is to experiment! Have fun and be safe! NY

Great work just wondering will this art fade over time due to oxidation or is there a coating you apply to retain the work over time

Is that a 3" Roloc abrasive disk on a 2" disk pad holder (Ingersoll) and if so what grits do you typically work with? Also what grit do you like to use with your 7" grinder? Your work is sensational. Thanks

Berger Metal Sculpture, thank you! Yes that is a 3” Roloc medium Scotchbrite on a 2” holder/mandrel. This allows the pads to flex and create a wider grind path. For the 7” grinder I generally us a 7” Scotchbrite coarse hook and loop pad. Be careful and have fun experimenting!

Hello Berger Metal Sculpture. In this video I am using aluminum oxide “sandpaper” type 3M Roloc pads along with Scotchbrite medium and course. The 7” has a 3M Scotchbrite course. I prefer 3M because the pads are flat and last longer than most other brands. I hope that helps!

Could I please ask for your advice? I have a metal art painting at home, which after some years was detached from its wooden frame. I see the creator had used some kind of silicone to glue it. Do you have any experience about what adhesive I should use to glue it back ? I would be grateful for your help.

Hey buddy, just wondering how exactly you would hang that on the wall and the process to do that?
@nicholasyust
@nicholasyust 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Wiremu! I have a 3.5” 30 ton sawtooth punch . I punch and fabricate hanging brackets that are either welded on or applied with an epoxy, depending on the weight of the artwork. I would attach an image but I don’t see an option to do that. Take care my friend! 🤙

Hi Zuly. In this video I use the following tools and abrasives: Air powered DA sander with 6” 220 grit sandpaper. Makita electric grinder with 7” Scotchbrite coarse disc. Air powered die grinder with Roloc attachment. 2”/3” Scotchbrite coarse and medium pads along with 3” 180 grit. Experiment and have fun! 🤘

Hi, I love this technique It looks amazing. I'm trying to find somewhere to learn. I'm curious if this type of artwork has a specific name or is it just Decorative metal art grinding?

Hello! This artwork is called abstract metal art. Part of the process is controlled grinding. It’s a self taught skill. I recommend getting some sheet metal and playing with different grinders and sanders. Have fun and be careful!

Chris Henderson yes I do patina work and paint with transparent acrylic after grinding. No primer needed as epoxy or urethane will adhered adequately to the metal. Good luck experimenting!

@@nicholasyust Cheers pal what's used to clean before painting the transparent acrylic. Something like a phosphoric acid cleaner of some sort?
@nicholasyust
@nicholasyust 5 жыл бұрын
Chris Henderson, you only need to clean the metal before sanding/grinding. I use lacquer thinner or MEK and then denatured alcohol. After sanding/grinding you only need to blow the dust off before painting. Good luck!
