0:54 This character has a visual model and is called "Baikin-man", a character from the anime "Anpan-man" that Japanese children watch. It's the visual model for One Punch Man. So the voice of Baikin-man is done by the same voice actor as this villain. The man's name is Ryuusei Nakao. It is a particularly famous character among those who played "Freeza" in "Dragon Ball".

Fun Fact: OPM first season was an incredible achievement, the anime director was a friend of many very skilled and prominent figures in Japanese animation, and coincidentally the ones he contacted were free of projects so they gathered to animate OPM first season, that's why the anime was extremely good

My dentist's office has Netflix, and the patients get to choose the show. I was getting my cavities filled and chose this to watch and while waiting for my mouth to become numb, my dentist would keep watching and was like what even is this. The creator, One, has another series called Mob Psycho 100, which is honestly one of my top favorites. I highly suggest it! It has similar satirical deconstructions of shounen genre tropes, but has more plot to it.

I think Opm is actually more of a parody. Satire is showing how dumb some concepts are and criticise them while parody is more like playing around with those concepts and make fun of them. Like most satire are about things the writer dislike and and parodies are about staff the writer likes.
@thefifth4669
@thefifth4669 Жыл бұрын
@@fanatomic24 It's kinda satire because the MC's design mocks the generic shounen or seinen industry. Such as: -MC always has to be always the underdog -MC has to have cool hair or the generic protagonist hair. -MC has to have cool eyes. -MC glows hair and eyes when they power-up. -MC has to have a cool costume -MC has to have a weak start -MC has to have a tragic back story -MC has to have super extra names in their special moves, and shout it out loud. -MC has to have a romantic interest, most of the time, with harem and excessive fan service. -MC has to be under a Mentor(Gojo, Kakashi, Jiraya, Master Roshi, etc.) whereas here Saitama was the Mentor while being a developing character at the same time. The parodies are: -Vaccine Man as Piccolo, with a color tone of the Villain in Anpanman cartoons... Which is also reference to the inspiration of Saitama's design. -Boros as Goku, -Collapsing Star roaring cannon as the Kame.....hame.....haaaaaaa! -Boros regen as Piccolo regen -Giant Monster as the Colossal Titan -Silver Fang, is a close physical match for Zeno Zoldyck of HunterHunter -Also there are parodies that comes from the own series. Such as a monster fighting Puri-puri prisoner and the other prisoner is cheering for the monster to beat the pervert gay hero, which was the direct parody of mumen rider speech and the cheering of the crowd behind when he is helding against the Deep Sea King.

@@thefifth4669 you are right. I think opm is a bit of a both. Parody and satire are pretty hard to distinguish. I think satire are more serious and parodies are more for the fun. But in my opinion the difference between parody and satire depends on the writer. Satire is like" i am tired of seeing these overpowered heros i want to point out why its wrong" while parody is like "i made him bold. I think its funny". I think ONE had both of those intentions.

One thing that is important to note is that this series is largely responsible for the move towards a system of storytelling that sidelines the main protagonist or "strongest good guy" in order to flesh out more characters (usually as part of an organization like the Hero association or Demon Slayers). That is, it breaks from the typical model of unkillable and unbeatable protagonists by not removing them, but by sidelining them for a number of protagonists who are significantly fleshed out and, most importantly of all, ACTUALLY CAPABLE OF BEING BEATEN AND/OR DYING. This adds significant stakes to many different properties from Jujutsu Kaisen to Demon Slayers. I think this change up has largely been responsible for the recent success of battle shounens and One Punch Man should definitely be celebrated for mixing things up and exploring it.

@Tyrantofthewind 2 жыл бұрын
@@yodorr6249 Secondary protagonists have existed since the dawn of storytelling. You say "secondary group" but I'm not referring to a "secondary group", I'm referring specifically to a group of characters who have all the hallmarks of a main character, but aren't the main character. They get screentime, development, and in many ways are far more relatable than the actual protagonists who cannot die, are already stronger than everyone else, receive no real development...or all of the above. I'm positive that One Punch Man is not the first to use this system (nor did I ever say it was), it is however the most popular and thus the most influential of the last few decades. Moreover, the change to this system comes as a result of too many battle shounens leaning on invincible protagonists in lead roles with the stakes being noticeably absent as the series progress. And in case you are still confused allow me to give you an example of what I'm not talking about, a "secondary group" that is not developed and is not what I'm referring to is something like the Z-fighters in Dragonball z, who while a "secondary group" do not receive the development or characterization that someone like Nanami, Silver Fang, or Uzui receive in shows that do follow the system I'm referring to. In short, just having a "secondary group" is not enough to qualify for what I'm talking about.

Honestly the first time I watched one punch man I thought: This is really interesting, they are exploring the mentality behind someone who has made themselves a metaphorical/ literal god when it comes to strength. Does achieving your goals without recognition mean anything? Does the end really justify the means when your intentions are good and no one understands what you have done for them? Is philanthropy in itself enough to sustain an individual's motivation? Amazing show. 10/10

Apart from that, there is an anime character for children called An-pan-man.He is a hero whose face is made of bread(pan) with sweet red beans paste(An) called An-pan.He fights against Baikin(bacillus)-man, a moldy boss-like villain. Not only does One-pan-man have a similar pronunciation to An-pan-man, but Villan, who first appeared with two horns, looks just like Baikin-man, and uses the same voice actor as Baikin-man. This alone will show you how much the one-pan-man is doing joke. Of course, from now on, It'll play fool around by full power, so please look forward to it.

Typically in any anime, especially shounen and also the odd western movie or cartoon, the story will be about a protagonist facing adversity and taking on danger in an effort to be stronger (the trope is usually wanting to protect something or someone or 'become the x king'). It's a well-rounded and common system for telling a story. Protagonist starts weak, faces danger, and gets stronger. Even more common, the story ends when they have finished their power creep and never deals with how they live life afterwards. Dragonball Z, Black Clover, Bleach, Naruto, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, etc. etc. When ONE wrote One Punch Man he wanted to write a deconstruction of this 'power creep' trope. What if the protagonist started in the story ALREADY the strongest being in the universe? What adversity could he POSSIBLY face that would make for an interesting story if nothing could ever present a danger to him? It's a really ambitious concept but he pulls it off pretty well, and got the experience from writing such a scenario in order to write Mob Psycho 100, which is like an upgraded OPM.

To be fair, he also cheats with the Hero association, a system replicated by other recent series as well. What happens when you have the protagonist as extremely strong and/or just unkillable because they are the protagonists? Make interesting characters that get a lot of attention who do fulfill the usual "get stronger" trope who are susceptible to be beaten or killed. Demon Slayer has the Hashiras, Jujutsu Kaisen starts with the protagonist already being sentenced to death and the antagonists almost solely focused on Gojo, and One Punch man has the hero association and its members, including Genos who does fit the mold of the typical protagonist. In short, One Punch man only works because Saitama is a small part of it. And he isn't even the best part of the show.

i totally understand what u r sayin and i always love those stories where the author/writer tries doing something unique other than what already isn't common, BUT that doen't mean the other shows or stories r not good, regardless of how uniquely you think of writing a story or starting it, it all in the end is just people's way of storytelling, what matters is how good they make their characters, write proper twists, evolving the story, developing the character, etc. and even one punch man also follows this, you can respect the ideas of thinking of starting a story unique but in the end, all the other shows can just be good as that regardless of how they start or if their setting was unique or not, i only don't interest in those shows who plainly just follows the tropes and don't do somethings special in THEIR storytelling, great examples are Demon slayer and jujutsu kaisen,

something interesting about this show, that most people won't recognize, is that Saitama's hero design is loosely inspired by Anpanman, some kind of kid's cartoon hero in Japan. according to my dad, at least. he lived there for a bit, and the fact that he and my sisters spoke in broken japanese around the house (and we taught our dogs commands in japanese) led me to watch anime as a whole in the first place

I agree, if they get an anime studio that can do a great job with action series. That was one problem with the second season. That studio wasn’t known for action anime/manga which is probably why the quality isn’t as great. Season 3 needs a studio that can do justice to all the amazing fights in that arc.

I’d like to say that the animation in the second season of OPM will have been changed, since Madhouse, (Season 1’s Animation Studio), decided to pass it’s second season. Even if Madhouse were to go back for season 3, It would most likely not have the same amount of animation since the first season’s key animators were very talented freelancers who wanted to be able to recreate Murata’s work into anime form in succession.

@@lazybum9732 It was due to delay in Manga . While the first season finished airing Madhouse didn't have much chapters to adapt. After the completion of Season 1 Murata also took some break therefore Madhouse withdrew making 2nd Season of this Anime. Hence, second season was made by J.C Staff (The animation was bad because they didn't got enough time and lacked experience) . Hope this will Clear your doubts. No more discussion now..!! 💀

If you ever plan to do manga reactions (maybe on Twitch) this one is a great choice. The author (ONE) draws like a middle schooler and publishes the series as a webcomic but the mangaka he hired for the official manga is a god. His artwork is one of the best out there and calling them breathtaking is an understatement. Definitely worth to check out.

Thing is... ONE does not hire Yusuke Murata. It is literally Yusuke Murata's dying wish to work with him. It is destiny for them, Yusuke Murata thought he was dying... now he is one of the living legends.
