Nicholls student, 2 younger siblings killed in wrong way crash

Four people are dead, including three members of a Louisiana family, after a head-on crash in St. Landry Parish on Friday night.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Interstate 49 after a pickup truck driving the wrong way on the highway crashed head-on into an SUV with five people inside.
Three passengers in the SUV: 20-year-old Lindy Rae Simmons, 14-year-old Kamryn Simmons, and 16-year-old Christopher Simmons were killed in the crash. The two other occupants were taken to the hospital and are in critical condition.
Katie Simmons DeRouen identified the victims of the crash as her mother and younger siblings along with her youngest brother's girlfriend. DeRouen said the family was driving home from her brother's basketball game when the crash happened.
The driver of the pickup, 54-year-old John Lundy, was also killed in the crash. It is unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Troopers say the official toxicology results are still pending and the crash remains under investigation.

The older sister had to drive around to multiple hospitals to find her siblings she couldn't find the one sister because they had her labeled as a Jane Doe Please people do not drink and drive

I am so disappointed and disgusted by LE!! Poor Katy had to go looking for her siblings and they could have contacted Katy at the hospital!! Completely unacceptable!!

We have the technology to warm my ass when I'm sitting in a car, yet we still don't have cars with built in breathalyzers. I think all cars should be built with ignition starters that require breathalyzer before the cars can start. I've never drank and drove in my entire life and I wouldn't mind having to take that extra step before starting my car.

Update: The POS that caused this had a blood alcohol level almost 3 times the limit. The only good thing in all of this is he perished at the scene. Too many times they get off without a scratch and a six month suspended sentence.

I agree the drunk driver usually gets off without a scratch and that makes my blood boil !!! I don’t wanna go into details of what I went through but I lost a special person that DID NOT DESERVE TOO DIE THAT WAY , and seeing my loved one laying on the hot pavement just gone in a blink of an eye bc a man was out all night drinking and he went the wrong way and took the most loving caring and good hearted person’s life away in a second’s time was just not fair at all !!!! And last I heard he is still in jail but she will never come back too us and it’s just something I don’t wish on anyone, no one should have too go though that !!! My heart hurts soo bad for myself, my love one’s, this sweet family and everyone else that has been through this 💔… IT’S JUST NOT FAIR 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

Don't cruise on the left lane! Especially at night. Your life may depend on it. So many wrong-way collisions, and that's always the advice. If they had only been paying attention...

Are you seriously blaming the kids for this? The driver was 3 times over the limit. He is the only to blame. How dare you blame Lindy, when she and her siblings are dead due to this arsehole driving drunk

Picture this, there's a serial killer on the loose, killing women in desolated parking lots late at night. The police warn women against going to their cars alone late at night. A woman opts not to follow that advice and becomes the next serial killer's victim. Is that he woman's fault? Of course not, it's the killer's. But the truth of the matter is that the woman would be alive had she followed the advice, and so would these kids had they followed the advice not to cruise on the left lane late at night... when drunks are out on the road and possibly driving the wrong way on an expressway.

He got off easy … he supposedly died in the crash … He should have suffered life altering disability… Just enough disability that he can spend the rest of his life in max prison … Rip❤ Hope the mom is surrounded by loving and caring people …
