As an aging guy myself, I greatly admire how Nick Lowe has aged gracefully, making quieter music and enhancing, rather than covering up, his old man looks. Therefore I was especially curious to see how today he would perform pedal-to-the-metal rockers like Heart of the City. And here it is, slowed down and toned down, but still with plenty of groove, along with a killer guitar solo from Los Straightjackets. What else can I say...Nick Lowe is pure class.

I agree. But "I love the sound of breaking glass" tune was rather gentle and yet sent emotion. "Little Hitler" and "36 inches high" are great tunes. Nick Lowe and the Rockpile with Dave Edmunds was a great energetic band.

It's ironic when a 70 year old British pensioner rocks it just hard as anyone around. I remember as a 13 year old buying Cruel To Be Kind in 7" vinyl in a decent picture bag and sitting on the bus home from school holding it, looking at it just as if it was a priceless treasure. I got in and ran straight up to my bedroom and stuck it on my record player. I couldn't believe how good that record sounded. I must have played it a dozen times on the trot and it just better and better. 40 years later it still sounds good. That's class and class endures.

Absolutely magnificent. I was privileged to see them at Birmingham Town Hall. The master craftsman of songwriting, singing in his 70s as well as ever, backed by a versatile and entertaining band in their own right. You Inspire Me was the unexpected highlight, the guitar work raised it to a higher level.

plndv3363 in a great many ways that’s how he has chosen to do it. Gives him a lot more freedom that way. So he can do stuff like record with John Hiatt then do Little Village or go out on tour as part of Boz Scaggs back up band or even do these Los Straightjacket tours. Still writes great songs, records his little records and they don’t cost too much to make so there isn’t a ton of money to pay back touring like crazy. He’s got respect and admiration for sure.

Not really. I've dug Nick since his days with Brinsley Schwarz. His impact has been impressive especially when you look at the bands that he produced. He is certainly more appreciated than Lou Whitney (the Skeletons and the Morells) may he RIP. And there's Rockpile what a killer band!!! I saw him a couple of times as a trio with Ry Cooder and Jim Keltner

On an ill-fated date when I was in college, I heard "Cruel to Be Kind" on an AM radio station out of Worcester, Mass. and I never saw the girl again but I have been hooked on Nick Lowe ever since! I wore out two vinyl copies of Labour of Lust in about three months. I bought the CD a few years later and that is still in great condition although that is amazing since I still play it all the time! I love Nick's solo stuff, and his stuff with Rockpile, Elvis Costello's version of (What's So Funny About) Peace Love and Understanding and his own version also. "I Knew the Bride When She Used to Rock and Roll" -- both his version and the Dave Edmunds version. The Rose of England; So It Goes; I Live On A Battlefield; on and on. I actually had a conversation with the best-selling novelist Stephen King at Fenway Park about Nick Lowe (King's favorite Nick song of course is "Marie Provost") ... I loved Rockpile, I loved Brinsley Schwarz and I loved his Cowboy Outfit, but I must say Los Straitjackets are right up there! Thanks to the Current for posting this excellent concert. My wife is from Minnesota and whenever we go there for a visit my car radio is always set to the Current and you never disappoint!
