Yeah I never really thought of it but isn't it essentially a rewrite of Reelin in the Years? Trying to see the connection 2 Phil and Company and Basher? I guess that would be phonogram records which had a connection 2 stiff records. I guess his delivery is kind of in that Phil kind of way which is weird because Elvis Costello had that husky tone to his voice and obviously he was part of Lowe's crew. Then again I guess this is all an offshoot of Pub Rock and Birch would know all that 1976 cross over into New Wave Punk

Actually, Nick himself said it was Steely Dan ("Reelin' In The Years") that was borrowed from, not Thin Lizzy.

The actual band is ROCKPILE -credit as solo Nick, yet Dave Edmunds on guitar also worked the other three. The Drummer and Bass played with The Pretenders, when they were "in crisis". Only One Rockville album, and its still brilliant!
@tygrkhat40876 ай бұрын
The "others" are guitarist Billy Bremner and drummer Terry Williams. Nick Lowe produced the Pretenders, and Williams was in Dire Straits, not the Pretenders. You are right that there was only one RockPILE album, but Rockpile played on three Dave Edmunds albums and one Nick Lowe record.
@jonathanmurphy31416 ай бұрын
@@tygrkhat4087 Rockpile played "the concert for Kampuchea" in Dec'1979. (Queen, McCartney E'Costello, the Specials, Pretenders, Ian Dury & the B',the Who, etc -and Robert Plant of Zep' came on to do vocals for the old Rockabilly tune "Little Sister" (video can be found on YT/a 33LP and film was released -not in circulation now; a brilliant charity concert set. @@jonathanmurphy3141I fully agree. I had the cassette of the concerts, just a stellar lineup and great songs. I also asked him about the "SBDs" that would be clearing the street in his song "Half a Boy and Half a Man". Boy, I really had that one wrong! He explained that it's the "S.P.G.s", The Special Patrol Group (SPG) of London constables that were especially known to get overly violent when dealing with citizens (especially punk rockers). I was too embarrassed to tell him what "SBD" stood for, and that I assumed the guy in the song had especially powerful farts! lol
