Nick talks about coming from a family of politicians, his sister being a powerful librarian in Illinois, his dad being the Mayor of Minooka, IL, getting into trouble in college for stealing Ronnie Milsap cassettes, spending a night in jail with his friends after they were mistaken for burglars, playing the president in his new movie Civil War, and what a Nick Offerman presidency would actually look like.

Same here! _Nick Offerman_ and or _Beau of the Fifth Column._ Two men who would make the greatest presidents (both build stuff, and kind of trouble-makers in their youth, too) but neither of them wants anything to do with it. Isn't it odd, or maybe natural I think, that the best leaders are just people going around setting good examples, and don't want anything to do with Hierarchy? I seek Horizontal power, instead. ❤🌍🌎🌏🌐

Having grown up on a farm, Nick Offerman is absolutely right about the importance of agriculture, wood working, and home ec. We can have all of the tech in the world, but without chairs, tables, and food, we would not be very productive. Past government legislature is what got us to these huge industrial complex farms that have ravaged our resources and destroyed small family farms. It's sad, but it's the bed in which they must lie, and it's up to us to make a change at the booth to find the people willing to take on those not so TV worthy debates.

Nick Offerman makes an extremely IMPORTANT POINT: Regular skills we use with our hands (that almost always requires reading/math, etc.) like cooking or building or fixing is no longer being taught in schools and hasn't been for quite some time now. I was shocked to learn my grandson couldn't even read cursive handwriting on the birthday card I gave him. Complained it looked like a foreign language. Explains why the kids coming into adulthood now don't have much of a clue at all. Shame on us all.

@quietreason8679

I'm sure your grandson is learning a lot now that you didn't back then. There are only so many hours in a school week, and there's so much new knowledge in every field of study. My two nephews are in highschool right now, and they're learning things that I was taught in my second year of college. I know it's in fashion to say that kids these days have it easy, or that we're lowering standards, by my experience is the opposite. It seems to me they have to learn more, in a shorter amount of time, and in schools that have fewer resources per student than we had.
@Gildedmuse
@Gildedmuse 28 күн бұрын
@@quietreason8679Its true, and while I do think schools should bring back things like woodshop/home ec as electives and be more open to students taking a non-college route, I also don't think its fair to assume that just because they're learning different information it's somehow a failure in the system. For instance, cursive was invented because the way ink would run from a quill/fountain pen. These are not typical writing implements anymore. So if you have a choice between teaching a child to read cursive or, say, have some level of technological literacy or even just a typing class would prove a much more useful skill in today's world. A kid that learns curvive is like a kid learning latin: its a skill, people associate it with intelligence, you can take some of what you learn and use it to potentially aid you in reading comprehension in some way. But overall, its a dead skill, and unless you're going into very specific careers, there is every chance that while it might make your parent's proud, you will never use these skills you wasted a semester being taught and it won't actually do any good for you career or future wise. On the other hand, as someone who CRUSHED it in an office setting because of my basic understanding of technology and computers - like, I was a tech GOD to those peope, and my computer skills are fairly mid - any sort of computer training is likely to pay off as its almost guaranteed that regardless of their futures they will interact with technology at some point.
@rhymeswithsomethingy4766
@rhymeswithsomethingy4766 28 күн бұрын
@@GildedmuseThere is a critical difference between something like cursive writing, and a "useful skill" like typing. Don't get me wrong here, I was glad I took typing. It was an invaluable skill until technology evolved further, and I had to learn to type with my thumbs and use voice recognition. On the other hand, writing in cursive requires engaging both side of the brain and fosters creativity and critical thinking. Life is about more than learning skills that will become outdated in a generation. It's about learning skills that will teach you to think, learn, and grow for a lifetime.

In a service based economy it makes sense to have lots of people who need to pay someone to do simple tasks I learned in public schools. Removing those classes from the curriculum was a deliberate decision to move away from an industrial and manufacturing economy.

Anyone else notice how much Nick compliments and approves others? "That's a great question. Exemplarary citizens. Incredibly tough Dominican woman. Over the moon with this exquisite filmaker." Even Sauron, "You hear about him alot, and you're always on the way to see him." Nick Offerman is the best! He is an amazingly thoughtful comedian!

Actually, Jimmy, I took Home Ec because I knew I’d be the only guy in the class. I do enjoy cooking as well, but I liked being the only guy in the class. All the other guys thought I was crazy, then they realized that I was a genius. The next year, a lot of guys signed up for Home Ec.

We had a guy in our home ec.class too. Lol, we made special brownies, and got caught. 🤭🤭 The teacher had to go home.

I went to cosmetology school in the very early 00s. There was one guy in my class. Smartest guy ever. I feel it requires a certain kind of confidence, self-awareness, and humility to be that one guy. Genuinely good dude. And he turned out to be incredibly talented. ❤

Good for you. All guys need to learn cooking. And some go on to be the best chefs in the world. Working in a professional kitchen is hard work, not for sissies.
