I think the benchmade axis lock lends itself very well to an integral. It simplifies the construction greatly and the spring on the anthem is miles better than that omega spring on the 940. I'd like to see a ti lock integral :)

Gdi... I love how I had a question about what an integral is, and I clicked on this, and my question is answered within moments. Now that I've got a basic understanding, I can understand the rest of the pieces. So many youtube channels make you wait for the answer for "retention" but it just means after I've watched the video, I need to watch it again! Lol I appreciate the straight forward answers/explanation to start the video boss!

I sold my 2 production integrals. On your "list". One was too big, the other had issues where being an integral was actually keeping that issue from being easily fixed. Glad your time machine is still working. I think I need to switch input tubes to something Russian.

My idea for this sort of knife would be to mill out everything from a titanium block as normally would be done. Then construct the liners inside as a one piece deal Bach included. Add the Sunbold liner lock mechanism into the Mehldau titanium and add T 10 screws from both sides of the scales. Then add the knife blade and pivot. I believe that assembling the inner frame and lock mechanism prior to setting it inside as a one piece deal would make a stronger liner lock and be cheaper to assemble. Passing the savings on to the consumer while still maintaining a unique knife. I have never held one of these knives myself but perhaps that’s the way they’re made anyways. I would love to get my hands on one soon. Just to explore how the mechanism works.

One thing I'd like to see is a liner lock with an "integral scale". Basically, make a liner lock with two titanium liners + standoffs, then mill out a single piece of micarta or G-10, shaped like a taco, that will fit around the entire thing. The "scale" can be held in place with just the pivot screw, so you'd have a clean look on the outside with almost no hardware, but it'd be not much harder to build than a regular liner lock. Even the clip can be blind screwed from the inside with some fancy hardware.

I do love my anthem, I forgot how bronze they were out of the box though haha. Does an integral mean the knife is better? Not really but it is a cool effect and they feel so nice. Been on the lookout for a Paysan production version. Am I the only one who would love an integral Sebenza? I think with the pivot bushing and their machine tolerances, it would be fantastic. Although I know Tim and the crew are a small operation and that may not be feasible. Would still be cool as hell though.

Nick, can you please tell me if you see any potential "structural" concerns with integrals? Is there anything you can think of that may potentially givea standard frame locking folder an advantage for long term use? I'm about to buy an expensive integral, looking for any potential concerns. Thank you 👍

God damn China man bringing the USA down. I own a WE and a Rike knife and some spydercos from Taiwan, but I mostly own American made (benchmade, microtech). Also got a spyderco and cold steel from Italy. Companies like WE, Rike, and Reate make beautiful high quality knives so I understand why you’re drawn in. I am too!

Almost a full year! Haha... I have been trying to buy a Benchmade anthem forever. I ordered one online, got it, had vertical blade play, sent it back to exchange. They checked every one they had in stock and said that the one I returned was the best one. I went to a local knife show and looked at 4 New Examples, every single one had blade play. I ended up getting a store credit and used it to buy a sebenza, which is great, but I wanted an anthem. Its pretty pathetic that at $425 out of quite a few examples that I couldn't find even 1 that had solid lockup, let alone even grinds, centering, etc. At $425 every one that leaves your factory needs to be perfect. Not 1 out of 10 or 15. If anyone does have a perfect example and wants a sebenza let me know! Haha... Although at this point I'm very very close to giving up on Benchmade completely because of their lack of QC and because myself and a few friends have sent them knives for warranty repair and gotten them back in the same condition they were sent.

EDC with Aaron I shoulda read this first. My anthems on the way. It said it was coming from benchmade. I don’t own a knife that has blade play and I don’t want the most expensive knife I’ve bought to have blade play. Maybe I should have gone with CRK but I’ve got enough s35vn.

love my integrals. Lionsteel TM1 in carbon fiber and the microtech custom anax Carbon fiber integral. the microtech i like less cause i hate microtech and tony himself has sued many people already sadly including a blogger... but the quality is very high, its also fun to flick. blade grind is ridiculous but i didnt really have a choice of blade when i received it. The TM1 is awesome in quite a few respects. its integral carbon fiber also a backlock and its also on bearings. flipping amazing knife. also tall thin grind. great slicer. very great at cutting cardboard.

Not sure about the "closest to a fixed blade" statement. Yes, maybe if you run it over with a car. But in the sense of, you know, not folding during use--surely the lock is more important.

The most obvious potential problem with integral knives is that neither the body nor any feature that has been made part of the body can be replaced in case of failure without replacing the entire body. Clips, lock bars, stop bars, scales etc. are usually separate items for good reason. The same is even more true of fixed blades made in one piece: it's all or nothing.
