@@christopherfoote4643 Alabama played Georgia Southern (not Georgia S., since there is also a Georgia State too), Nick is going off about a bunch of reporters just assuming that he will sit or rest a bunch of starters since they are playing a "presumed lesser opponent"... now they are Bama, and this was a pre-game interview before the Charleston Southern game, but he was asking them if they remembered the GEORGIA SOUTHERN game, because they were looked at that way and ALABAMA did beat GS but they gave up more yards and points to GS than any opponent that season. So Saban's point was do overlook people and presume that these non conference teams cant play. GS had better numbers against Bama than LSU in TWO games (Reg Sea & Natl Championship games) Bama was a lock down then. That was Nick Saban's point, don't be arrogant and overlook a team, especially since they have nothing to lose.

Gene Stallings, the last national championship coach who proceeded him, talked about games that "aren't very big games". He said, "just lose to them, and you'll know how big a game it was." Nick Saban has the exact same message. It makes no difference whether it's SEC opponents or FCS opponents. Never overlook or underestimate ANY opponent. He mentioned the game against Georgia Southern from several years back and I remember it well. He's exactly right. They ran a wishbone old school type of offense that we almost never see anymore, and our defense gave up a lot of yardage to them.

How can anyone NOT love Nick Saban? He wasn't asked about overlooking an opponent. The reporter asked about what he has seen from their starting QB. He answered for 5 seconds and went on some rant that had nothing to do with the question.
@BillMarion4 жыл бұрын
@@24lancelot85 I never said he gave the best interview, and while giving a interview is a tiny microscopic aspect of coaching, his job is to shape young people and win football games. He's doing both. But more importantly, the reporter is asking a question without consideration for the opponents, and the possibility of a tough game. He's a great coach, because he doesn't want to entertain that kind of thinking before a game. But whatever. No one has to be a Saban fan. But his record is a pretty big indicator of his success. If only wins half his games for the rest of his career he's still going down in history as one of the greatest coaches. Again, I'm not an Alabama fan. But I love football, and he's one of the best to ever coach the game.
@24lancelot854 жыл бұрын
@@BillMarion You said, "But more importantly, the reporter is asking a question without consideration for the opponents, and the possibility of a tough game." No, he asked about the QB and what he has seen from him. For some reason, he had to go into a rant. Kind of like he did with Maria Taylor last year. After that happened, he had his peepee wacked and was told to apologize.
@BillMarion4 жыл бұрын
@@24lancelot85 I'm responding because I'm assuming we're just having a fun conversation. I'd hate for anyone one to think I'm defending Alabama's coach! lol Anyway, you're right, the question is about the QB. But notice the way the reporter is asking the question. The reporter differentiates the quarterback from the rest of the team by saying he has some D1 or FBS experience. In other words, the reporter is saying that their QB is the only part of their offense worth mentioning. You have to realize that Saban can't answer that question directly. If Saban starts talking about the QB he's agreeing with the underlying statement within the question (that the only thing worth mentioning about the opponent is the QB who has some token experience.) Saban wants everyone to know, "we're taking our opponent seriously." The Alabama players need to hear him say that, because they need to be in the habit of taking every opponent seriously. In some cases, reporters phrase questions like this on purpose because a coach's response can be twisted to make for good headlines. The only other excuse for asking this question is desperation. It's hard to come up with solid questions during a week that should be an easy win. Regardless, it's not the right question, and Saban did what he had to do. Now I have to wash my keyboard for actually defending an Alabama coach. lololololo

This may seem ridiculous, but this is why Alabama never loses to struggling teams who have no business even being on the same field as them. I'm an OU fan. You might assume I'd be jealous of all their NC's, but no, what I'm really jealous of is their ability to avoid losing to teams with losing records, who fire their coaches at the end of the season, who look as shocked as we are that they're actually beating us. Hell, in 2007 we lost to a mediocre Colorado team in week 4. WEEK 4! How do you lose your focus that early in the season? If OU doesn't lose that game they would have played Ohio State for the NC. I think we would have won. Ohio State was even worse at choking NC's at that time than we were. I don't remember the question either, but I just wanted to say that!
