--------
In a interview, former NBA player Nick Young shared an intriguing anecdote about the late Kobe Bryant’s intense demeanor and team dynamics. According to Young, Bryant once refused to speak to teammate Jeremy Lin for the remainder of the season following a mid-season argument. The friction reportedly began when Lin intervened during a practice huddle, attempting to mediate a situation. Kobe retorted sharply, leading to a cold shoulder for the rest of the season, illustrating Kobe’s famous intensity and high standards on the court. Young further elaborated on Bryant’s unique and intimidating personality, sharing how Kobe’s elevated self-assurance often stemmed from his unorthodox preparation methods, like traveling via helicopter while teammates used buses. These stories highlight Kobe’s larger-than-life persona and unwavering focus, which, though demanding, fueled his legendary status in basketball.
Meanwhile, Bryant's family relationships were also mentioned, notably the strained ties, notably after he cut off his parents financially and they didn't speak at his funeral, indicating a complex personal life behind his public image.

The “Kobe not speaking to Lin” for the rest of the season narrative pretty much matches accurately to was Lin said on All the Smoke. They both got into it with each other so much that Kobe reached his boiling point, but at least Lin stood up for himself. Glad they both buried the hatchet during Kobe’s final season. RIP Kobe 🙏🙌

(Totally speculating here) yes some of was because he was an Asian in a sport where many did not exist but (again speculating) for Kobe it might've just been that he was one of the few teammates he had who could hold an accomplishment over him (i.e. being a graduate of Harvard College). It's kind of like a "you don't have to be here, you could get a job on Wall Street or Silicon Valley" but you're also in the NBA whereas for a lot of guys if they didn't have basketball, they'd be nowhere (seems to be the same critique from that anonymous source that Stephen A quoted about Jaylen Brown). You can then hide that (inadequacy?) by pushing those guys and saying they're not desperate enough, they don't want it enough, they're not competitive enough because they have a fallback/plan B. They don't "need" this like you do and so their not willing to put in the work and so you try to get them to quit under the guise of "toughening them up." We all have our insecurities and it's ridiculous to think even the greatest didn't have theirs.

I remember his last few years on the Lakers… had almost a toxic feel. You respected him for what he had given them, but knew it was time for the team to move on. His presence was almost holding the new guys back. And when they gave him that last contract as a ‘thank you’… it was like wtf?

Wouldn't shame J Lin. But it would be an embarrassing memory of Kobe. Just shows him as the prima donna he was. That's why his last few years were losing years. After Pau Gasol started breaking down, that Lakers team wasn't winning anything. Kobe was just jacking up shots and taking the Buss family's cash. Thanks for the memories. He had that brief few weeks of absolute glory, which is more than most pros ever get. What is it? Only 400 players total in the league each year. Funny thing is Lin got a ring himself. It means that the widow Bryant didn't care to give the parents a minute or two. Right or wrong. She felt like she paid her dues when she stayed with Kobe after that Colorado disaster. She earned that inheritance. Kobe appreciated that too. Vanessa could have taken half his money then, but she stayed for the full value. That's loyalty in a real way...

@@donaldcarey4606 Kobe was an amazing hooper and seemed like an amazing parent. He was also a real asshole to a lot of his teammates, according to those teammates. Maybe that was a tactic he used to motivate, or maybe it was just his work persona. Regardless, multiple teammates (smush parker, jeremy lin, etc...) shared stories about Kobe telling them they weren't good enough to talk to him, or Kobe just giving them the silent treatment for months on end. None of that takes away from Kobe's basketball or family legacy - but if anyone in my work place did that to me, I would consider them an asshole.

Nick Young! “Swaggy P” - Dude provided entertainment when he played and he smiled. These days he still smiling, albeit while sounding like he just woke up!😆 For the record: Kobe was known for owning a personal helicopter- a small 2/3 seater, red in color, cost $250-3K - that was primarily used to fly him from JWA in Orange County to a rooftop in downtown LA (waiting limo at ground floor) for home games at Staples. The second helicopter was the larger model - leased from the company that employed the pilot he mostly always flew with - Ara Zobayan - the one who flew into pea soup fog and became spacial disoriented, confused and thought he was banking left to go up to clearance but was actually rapidly descending at 185 mph point blank into the mountain. It was instantaneous catastrophic crash. He should’ve never taken off that morning. Whenever Kobe didn’t fly to get to home games - he could be seen sometimes speeding up the 405 freeway in a canary yellow Lamborghini. I saw him a few times on the road during my L.A. days. 🙏🏿R.I.P.
