Hi Nick, I also bought the Macan S, here in the U.K. as the GTS wasn’t available to order at the time. I think your assessment of the Model range, is absolutely “spot on”. As you say, they are not a sports car, but more of a luxury vehicle! I tried the equivalent BMW X3 M40i, and the ride was unbelievably hard, (twice as firm as my 3 series m-sport, with run flats)! Btw we get zero-discounts here, on new Porsche’s. Keep up the good work!

Great review as usual Nick! I just bought a 2017 Macan S and I added the Cobb Stage 1 tune raising it to 434 ft-lbs at the wheel. What a screamer now. I love it! So easy to drive in LA. I bought one based on how much you love yours, my all around needs as well and I really value your opinion. I paid 43K for a 75K vehicle. Great value I think.

Very helpful and well explained. Currently own a GLC43 and shopping for a Macan. I am leaning toward and S loaded with what I need/value but the GTS is probably closer to a GLC43. Will take a deeper look but your input helps. Cheers from Canada!

Great video, I bought a new macan just the base model this year it’s a great car, it’s my first Porsche the S was just that little bit out of reach for me tbh as I wanted a better spec wheel so it was the wheels or the S model but still didn’t want the base s wheels so upgraded the wheels on the base, I love my car drives brilliant better than any other car I’ve had, maybe the next macan will be a sport itor a gts but it looks like they will be all electric by that time. Just enjoy the car you can afford an aspire to own.

Nick, thanks for a great video. I find all your videos about the various Macan models to be interesting and useful, as I recently ordered one (a 2021 "S") for November delivery. Your videos helped me to cement my decision to go with Macan and the Macan S in particular. For me the "S" is the sweet spot. I don't feel the need for the extra HP of the 2.9L models, but do feel that in this price range a 6-cylinder engine with "enough" power is required. Anyway, for me it's the "S". One month until delivery. I'm replacing a BMW 3-Series wagon. The runner-up was the Mercedes E-class 450 wagon at almost exactly the same price, but I didn't like the instrument panel nearly as well as the Macan's. When Mercedes "lifted" the E450 for 2021 and put plastic cladding on it, that was the last straw. Macan, here I come......

Great review. Absolutely love my 2021 Turbo and will not buy a Porsche again without PSCB or PCCB. Never, do I find even a spec of dust oh my beautiful gloss black wheels.

I have a CPO 2017 Macan Turbo, which may not be totally pertinent. But when I was looking, it was very difficult to find a GTS and they all seemed to have a premium attached to them. I got my Turbo for the amount I probably would have paid for an S new. Very happy with it. I can't see another vehicle I like better. I am waiting to see what the Macan EV is like before I make any changes.

its great that the speedo goes to 190. that and the partial circle gauge make the useful daily range of zero to 100 basically worthless. I have to use the digital because who can read that little compressed gauge..

Great video, thank you, we're in the market for an SUV, too... I've always felt that one shouldn't buy one of these hoping to get a sports car. They clearly are not, they are clearly more luxury than sport. As such, I'd never go beyond the Macan S (possibly GTS), or AMG GLC43 or BMW X340i, or possibly, the most boring of them all, the Q5/SQ5. I think that's the sweet spot in the respective range

Thanks for the comparo. Only you have the patience to line up all of the Porsche details, model to model. The S is all anyone needs (my 2017 with a Porsche V6 was an easy choice over the VW Turbo 4 base model).

Even as a German it's hard to say - sure you'd need a turbo 😅 I drove the 2.0L just a week after the turbo and I actually enjoyed the little four pod as much as the super fast version and it hits 200 kmh with ease. I think this is definitely a case of how much you like to spend on stuff you don't need 🤭

Just looking at the GTS/Turbo and seeing the $ asked, I'd have to look at that Stelvio Quad awfully hard.

I know we aren't allowed to like boring colours over here but black and red works really well on this car. The 2.9l really is a gem I had a Cayenne on loan and really liked the power delivery, makes a pleasant sound too 👍

Being Green is my favorite feature.

We bought a Base Macan. IMO the base is like a Golf R that can tow! Wound up driving an S as a loaner for a day, and it didn't feel faster around town (faster at freeway speeds yes) and felt significantly heavier. I also like the sound of the base over the S surprisingly, especially the DSG farts like the GTI I used to have :)

Bought a 2020 GTS. Had a 2016 S. The difference is huge!

Interesting video Nick as always, I've had the same thoughts over the value in the Macan line up & would go for the GTS no question, what's stopped me committing is the fact the Macan is at the end of its run despite the refresh the shape is ageing, plus you see loads around & for me the base Cayenne is more attractive modern proposition. Similar price, less common, modern platform etc I'd appreciate your view on this?? I'm looking at selling my 991 Black Edition as I want a bit more practicality. (Still have a Cayman 987 for fun!!)

Please drive the 2020 X3 M40i and do a comparison to a Macan GTS.

Another thoughtful video. I own a 2019 base and love it. I drove the S and you are correct, to is smoother and has faster acceleration at high speed. It also feel heavier and more solid than the base - not that this really is a problem for the base. As you state, if one lives where one can travel legally at 130+ the Turbo may make sense. But that leaves out most areas in the USA. so I really do not get the Turbo. BTW, I think in addition to the acceleration onto a highway comparison, you might also show a passing comparison - say from 70 to 100+. My base just leaps out when I pass like that - so satisfying, so much fun.

Any preference for the two different sized steering wheels on the Macan?

I looked at a Macan S. I got a BMW M40i instead. A full option M40i was the same lease as a base Macan S where I live. Separation of the classes I guess ;-) Great video Nick.

Hi Nick, quick question: have you ever test-drove the original cayenne turbo s with 520hp from 2006? They were all ate up with power but weighed quite a bit. Just curious how fast they were. Obviously the driving experience is completely different from these new Macans.

Hi Nick. You don’t mention CO2 emissions at all? Here in the UK this is an important consideration. I’ve just traded my 718 Boxster for a March 2021 base Macan. I wasn’t looking for a replacement for my Boxster. I’d had ten years of fun driving a Boxster and switched because I wanted a more luxurious but practical day to day car. I deliberately chose the base Macan because of the lower CO2 emissions and spent my money on spec including the air suspension, park assist with surround view and adaptive cruise control amongst others. I’m loving it, but it does have an annoying ‘squeak’ at lower speeds, which I’m getting looked at soon. Any thoughts?

I had a loaner S for 2 weeks loaded. I really enjoyed it. The PDK stumbled when cold, and the electrical system did a weird thing or two. Always recovered. I thought it was a great commuter

Aside from the engine, isn't the GTS a bit more sporty than the other Macans due to a 1 inch lower ride height and slightly stiffer suspension arms?

I would love to see if anyone here can comment on the low end torque characteristics of the turbo against the S model. For the 19-21 model years. I have tested both the GTS and the S, and found that the in town, casual driving, low end power delivery to be more usable on the S.

Porsche is working on a electric version of the Macan. Just like Taycan vs Panamera. What are your thoughts? I think it will be a winner!

What would you say is the best/ideal model year used for a Macan S or GTS? I'm loving the restyling on the 19+ model years but would be open to an older S/GTS gem at the right price with low mileage.

The best part of my '18 Macan S was selling it for my new '21 Tesla Model 3 performance.

Wanted a Macan S but needed to fit 4 teenagers. Macan is too smal for 3 in the back. Ended up with a Alfa Stelvio and quite happy with it. Drives nearly as good as the Macan S with more space.

Whatever you go, grab a hairdryer and remove that G T S decal....right Nick🤔😉🤓
