Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. We are expressive by nature and are truly very quirky in every sense of the word. This is who we are and this is what we’ve got to offer. The beautiful song was secondary to what we were watching. When Lex leaned into Nick and emoted that she knew what he was feeling inside - and conveyed that feeling through a loving touch - The connection of two spirits in love - is the world's most beautiful thing. I would die - and go directly to heaven - if a woman looked at me that way.

Tears For Fears was never a typical 80's pop band. The quality of their arrangements, production, and experimentation was always leagues above their peers. This song is a timeless classic along with tracks like I Believe, The Working Hour, Bad Man's Song, and Sketches of Pain. So much more than just pop.

You're so right! I'm not particularly a fan of the 1980's (prefer the 60's) but Tears For Fears would have made it in any decade. Like you said it's the production that I think sets them apart, every note, instrument, vocal is exactly what each song needs, no more no less.

In 1985, Adams was discovered by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, founders of the English band Tears for Fears, while she was performing in a hotel bar in Kansas City, Missouri, while they were on a US tour. Two years later, they contacted her to invite her to join their band as a singer and pianist on their next album, The Seeds of Love. In 1989, the album was released and the single "Woman in Chains", sung as a duet by Adams and Orzabal and with Phil Collins on drums, became her first hit. Adams embarked on a world tour with Tears For Fears in 1990, performing by herself as the supporting artist at the start of each show, and remaining onstage throughout the Tears For Fears set where she would provide piano and vocals.

@@MrBfg586 It was the 80's. A lot of songs in that era sounded over-produced. But this song in particular was understated and mellow for an 80's track. Something of an intro into the 90's where pop/rock music was more stripped down and basic. Too bad this song didn't chart as well as Seeds Of Love. Otherwise, more people would have noticed this shift in TFF's sound.

What just happened? You just heard one of the best albums of the 80s. Interesting story about Oletta Adams: the band was touring their second album (Songs From The Big Chair) and they felt stuck to all the machines they used on stage, all the keyboards and sequencers and drum machines. One depressing night they stumbled into their hotel after the show and found this lady playing piano and singing songs for a living in the bar of the hotel and were amazed by her. After the tour they started working on this particular album and were getting nowhere and felt they were stuck in a rut and wanted to come up with a sound that was more organic. And then they remembered her and the way she made them feel and eventually tracked her down and invited her to become involved in the making of the album. Eventually she ended up playing on at least three songs and singing on the this song and the song Bad Man's Song and also came with them on tour. Then TFF had the genius idea of starting every show with Oleta singing the song I Believe (from their second album) after which the whole band would come on stage.

I think I trained my ears at an early age with the "British Invasion" sound (Beatles, Stones, The Who, etc) and then was subsequently attracted to later British bands and their releases. Tears For Fears, Howard Jones, Joy Division then New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Eurythmics, The Smiths, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Roxy Music, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Duran Duran, Wham, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Happy Mondays, etc, etc I am not saying there weren't great American Bands of the same era, but I leaned toward that particular "British" sound out of my love for the early "Invasion" sound. Love you music travels Guys! Enjoy! PS another wonderful recommendation would be "Don't Give Up" Peter Gabriel with Kate Bush...yummy beautiful sound.

For the pedantic Muppets amongst us Yes ""Tears for Fears"" are a English band that came from the city of Bath Somerset formed in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith however they are also British citizens since collectively the UK is a Union of three main countries England Wales Scotland and additional northern Ireland thus if you have passport supprize supprize it's called A "British passport"" with ower Queen as head of state HRM Queen Elizabeth which again technically and funnily enouph make them British hope this helped lol 😜 🤣🇬🇧

Just rediscovered this masterpiece. Back when it first came out, I had noticed the way the drum part was played sounded familiar, especially at the end with the offset snare hit. It was none other than Phil Collins.

I first heard this song about 8 months ago and, admittedly, I had about the same reaction as Nick... totally blown away... an absolute masterpiece in my opinion. Somewhat ironically, I was in the middle of writing a screenplay at the time and I realized this is the perfect song for the FADE OUT and ROLL CREDITS, so I added it to the script, which subsequently became an award winner (not yet picked up by a producer, but there is always hope, right?). Anyway, just wanted to say that I loved your reaction (both Nick & Lex)... keep up the great work!

Great band ,great song , one of the best SOUNDING albums of the 80s, and a perfect example of prog pop. Tears For Fears are criminally underrated, and deserve far more praise than they get. They are a musicians band . Metalheads , proggers , rockers , popstars....TFF is universally respected. There isn't one weak link on this album, " Seeds Of Love" , and the same goes for " Songs From The Big Chair" . Two back to back PERFECT albums.....

TFF are timeless. The two guys are intelligent and a lot of their songs explore existentialist themes. Another Great band of the same era was Talk Talk. Another genius band. Try 'Life's what you make it' as an entre'. Love your work guys!

Such a gorgeous tune. This whole album is amazing. It's got a couple of "Pop" tunes, such as "Sowing the Seeds of Love" and "Advice For The Young At Heart", but it's also got some unbelievable progressive music (it's Rock but it's also "World" music too) on it, as well! You should hear "Side 2" of the album. It's different from "Side 1". Listen to "Standing on the Corner of the Third World" and "Swords And Knives" for some really dark TFF. Also listen to "The Year of the Knife" for some unbelievable Prog TFF! You just have to hear it, and it's a live cut on an otherwise studio album (by the way, the great Simon Phillips plays drums on it)! Also listen to "Bad Man's Song" for some Gospel-flavored music (Manu Katche plays drums)! Oletta gets to rock out on vocals and piano on that song! By the last song on the album is yet another wonderful LOVE song...again, you just have to hear it. It's beautiful and poignant. God bless. :)

Yeah, what just happened?? I was with you all the way.. very emotional.. it was spiritual. So incredibly beautiful wasn’t it? I feel so lucky that I was around when it came out. Seeds of love will be an album I get again on vinyl very soon. It’s so good to see you guys react in this way.

Love, love, love this band! Saw them several times in concert. One of them was with Oleta Adams. Roland’s voice is phenomenal.... just as powerful live! There is not one song I don’t like throughout their entire career! Should check out Laid So Low(Tears Roll Down), Sketches of Pain, Standing on the Corner of the Third World

So nice to see you reacting to this song, not many people have. Tears For Fears are a particular favorite of mine. This album, Seeds of Love, is really good. The album Elemental is a classic. It includes the title cut Elemental and Break It Down Again, both received heavy airplay on our local alternative radio station here in Columbus. Mr. Pessimist is another beautiful song from the album along with my favorite cut, Goodnight Song, which has a great video. But... then there's the Raoul and the Kings of Spain album. OMG, breathtaking. The title cut (and first track :)) is phenomenal. Secrets is stunning and Sketches of Pain (noted below) shouldn't be missed. Again, so glad you had a chance to enjoy Woman in Chains, it's s splendid song and a splendid reaction from both of you.

I grew up listening to '80s music and I don't know you. would always appreciate the song when you listen to it completely and I'm really glad that younger generations like you guys just take it all in and listen and then make your remarks. but I'm also glad that you guys appreciate it too because I'm in my forties now and this song still has the same emotional impact as it did when I listen to it when I was a little kid. thank you guys. there's still hope for the young generation
