Today, we'll take a look at my collection with 2020 vision, and go through the knives, multitools, pens, and watches in my collection as of September 2020, with the question of "Why is this in my collection?" as the main theme.
Here's the video I mentioned about 'points of reference': kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5mqnpBnt7TIpKc.html
Here's the modern equivalent of the tool chest I discussed: amzn.to/2ZvmLBp and its base: amzn.to/32maO35

I think these types of videos are prime examples that edc is a very personal thing. He loves this stuff while for example I look at the knives and see maybe 5-10 that I like. It's also why I watch knife reviews to see more of the knife to decide if I like what I see enough to order one just to form my own in hand opinion. If I love it I keep it or if I don't I just sell it to someone else.

Seeing your collection (and surfing the knife market non-stop over the past 6 months), I have ZERO doubt you have complete control over the demand side of the current supply and demand pricing structure in the knife industry. You can single handedly make a knife the current darling of the industry or completely destroy it's launch with one video. Wow what power!

This comment is what everyone needs to know before they get into this hobby/community. The sheer volume of followers is unbelievable. Stay off instagram, the trust that one should place in the hands of a youtube knife reviewer should be proportional to the amount of use said KZfaqrs knives show, and most importantly, learn what YOU like and be proud of it. Also, s30v has like 10 times the edge retention 99% of average people will ever experience and is a FANTASTIC steel for everyday use.

A Lamy Safari or AL-Star and a Noodler's Charlie Pen (They come free with the ink, come on now), would be excellent additions for reference pens. You don't exactly need more than a bic and G-2, but you know, fountain pens are just so great. Pilot Metro is also an excellent budget/reference addition. Noting that the Lamy's and Metro don't come with the piston convertors. P.S. I just got into watches. rip.

How is waiting 2 years for the world's most generic knife worth the wait? They're good, in theory anyway, but they're no better than SO MANY other knives that can be had without the completely inexplicable wait. I've had a few, and I'll always have one, mostly to lend to other people, but anytime I'd actually use it, I always grab the M4 Freak instead. Hi Nick, im 17 and pretty new to the knife world. I was looking forward to buying a D2 steel knife, but then i came across its problems with corrosion and rust. since you are a knife veteran i wanted to hear your opinion on D2 knives when it comes to everyday use (and how much does oiling the blade help in preventing corrosion and rust)?
@CNYKnifeNerd
@CNYKnifeNerd 3 жыл бұрын
D2 is a fantastic steel. A great place to start your journey. The way it gets talked about online, you'd think it rusts like 52100, or O1. In my experience, it's no less stainless than a lot of "true stainless" steels. It is often called "semi-stainless" after all. Oiling the blade regularly will prevent any, and all, rust. I've had a lot more issues with S35VN (US) rusting than D2 (Chinese, or US). D2 has it's issues, but it's certainly not the rust magnet that you read about it being on the internet so if that's where your biggest concerns lie, then you're gonna love it. My issue with it, is it's ease of sharpening in relation to edge holding. It's definitely not terrible at either, but there are just steels that sharpen easier compared to their edge retention, but a lot of those steels are more dependant on having a very specific Heat treat done (Nitro V, 14C28N). My experience with D2 consists mostly of a Spyderco Military and paramilitary 1 in CPM-D2, and several Ganzo, Civivi and other Chinese D2 models. I can't say I've noticed any rusting at all, outside of a few specks around a pivot that wiped right off with an alcohol wipe. A Ganzo FH11 is a great way to experience well made D2 in a cheap (~$20USD) and high quality knife. Obviously, I'm not Nick, but I just wanted to offer my opinion based on my not-insignificant experience. Good luck!

More people don't make rotary control flashlights because Surefire sues them when they do. While using a Hall effect sensor to put a dimmer knob on a waterproof flashlight is probably obvious to any electrical engineer and therefore not eligible for patent protection, establishing that in court is expensive, and the flashlight market isn't big enough to justify the cost.
