“You don’t know what a work ethic is, until you see the best player actually work out”. That is an example of someone who always strives to be the best. He talked and taught his teammates but also he led by example. This excerpt should be shown to all basketball players striving to be great. Goosebumps man, like Jordan, Kobe gives you goosebumps when you hear stories about what they do to be great.

I remember one game, years ago against the Sixers ( Phil had challenged Kobe to make the nba All-Defensive-team) he had Iverson on LOCK-DOWN !!! At times he couldn't even touch the basket-ball !!! @@powerbad696 Fun little backstory to that match up, Kobe actually studied the attack patterns and psyche of sharks to implement that in his game plan against AI because he had such a hard time figuring him out. Craziest part is it actually worked, the next game he put his plan in use and used it every time thereafter. There's a Players Tribune article about it, highly recommend reading it.

Being a Laker fanatic since 1971, Kobe quickly became my favorite player. He took shots very few players could even get off. He made shots that looked impossible. He played so hard and so well and to get him mad had to be the stupidest thing any opponent could do. He was the best mad player I had ever seen. But I resonated with what was said about watching Kobe and just start laughing. His skill level was at an entire nother level that was incomprihensable and henceforth the laugh. The 62 pts in 3 quarters, the 81 point game, the 9 straight threes, the streak against Jordan's Wizards, the 'no regard for human life" dunks, the game winners, buzzer beaters, rundown blocks, lockdown D and the Championships with the skowl. By far the best 20 years of my basketball loving life

@@rickyquevedo7035 in 1991, Magic contracted HIV and he retired. After discussions with the league about what would happen if he got scratched while playing Magic came back and played in the 1992 all star game. Magic played on the 1992 Olympic Dream Team. After that the players started to protest because much was not known about HIV. It’s was also, during this time that Magic fell out with his then best friend Isaiah Thomas. Magic didn’t retire and come back only because of the love of the game, the issue was his HIV diagnosis. Where he continuously fought the league to let him continue to play but because of the stigma of his condition he kept playing and retiring.

I used to love just watching him shoot the baby fadeaways in warmups before home games. Then the game he does the same thing, but elevates and fades way more... so unguardable! Then seeing some of the reverse layups and dunks, and just him coming up the court with the ball.... he looked like he was coming straight downhill. Even though he wasn’t Lebron size, he was big and strong for a guard with that athleticism and skill.

It’s not until a month or two ago that I have finally see Kobe for who Kobe is. I have most respect for him. Intensity that he had, work ethic, passion. He was “not an animal of this planet” but something more viscous that could be flicked on like a switch. No ever really watched him and I hate that I didn’t take the time to see pure greatness when I could
