Fun fact: There was supposed to be a theatrical FOP film, which was eventually scrapped. For those who don’t know, here’s what it would’ve been about: Timmy, who feels sorry for the way Vicky treats other children, wishes that every kid in Dimmsdale had fairy godparents. But this backfired as Vicky, being under 18, is still considered a kid and gets Jorgen as her godparent. However, with no one to protect everything in Fairy World, the Anti-Fairies and the Pixies join forces to take over the world.

Here’s the thing about all the characters getting ridiculously “ripped” … When I did it in ‘Action Packed’ it hadn’t really been done on the show… (or not to that degree) Like so many things from that episode, it got a big laugh - so everyone decided they wanted a piece of that action and it got done over and over and over again. If you track the series, prior to ‘Action Packed’ FoP was a fairly straightforward situation comedy. But after that episode, it became an ‘Action Comedy’ - perpetually showcasing Crimson Chin, Crash Nebula, Mighty Mom and Dyno Dad, etc. etc. etc. Obviously something about the formula “worked” so I’m not judging… but for my own tastes, I’m a believer in “less is more” sometimes. Great video! Happy to discover this channel. Zig-a-zig AH!

I love S1-S5, the movies, and specials but I think "It's a wishful life" made a mistake giving Cosmo & Wanda to Chester. He doesn't need fairies when he has a loving father unlike Timmy. Yes he's poor but it's been proven Chester is fine with the life he has and while he lives in a trailer park he's still the most selfless person on the show, joining the baseball team out of fear in order to put respect back on his family's last name. Even when he got Norm he tried doing things for others, and while it backfired he's heart was still in the right place and that should disqualify any kid from fairies. They should only go to those with bad or selfish intentions such as Timmy Turner, who constantly has to be reminded in every episode his actions have consequences.
@tonyhakston536
@tonyhakston536 2 жыл бұрын
Timmy isn’t a bad kid outside of seasons 4, 5, and 10. He can be snarky, but if his actions end up hurting anyone he’s pretty quick to set out to make things right. Heck, he’ll do it even if it ISN’T his fault. He’s a good kid, he just has poor impulse control and a short attention span.

I don't like how you made fairies seem like some sort of punishment and morale lesson. They're given to miserable kids who have a shitty life and need the help/need truly loving parents/figures in their lives. They're not punishments, and making painting Timmy as just a selfish and bad kid is really disingenuous and wrong. You're victim blaming a kid who basically has everyone in his home-life hate him and no real loving figure, which is so fucking shitty to do.

Reminding me here of why I never did like Remmy. Even when Timmy tried to help him out and the magic ultimately working for a short time, that was way more than he deserved, acting as if this was Timmy's fault and not his for starting the fight in the first place. Then he got Jaundissimo back and became even more superfluous to things.

Even though I haven't watched Fairly Odd consistently since they took it off the air (in Canada), I was able to quote just about every single joke word-for-word that you used. Watched it practically every single day and there's no way it's going away now. While SpongeBob was my number 1 favourite in the 2000s, Fairly Odd got bonus points for me for the continuity, references, things SpongeBob didn't do. I don't think we ever got the Oh Yeah Cartoon show/segments, so that "9 Ball" joke was completely lost on me when I first saw Abra Catastrophe, alongside all the other callbacks. I still stand by saying the first 5 seasons are great fun, despite what the internet tries to tell me. For a decade (2003-13), YTV also had a Victoria Day tradition called Sponge-Odd SquareParents Day, where they showed back-to-back FOP/SB, with new episodes at the end of the day (usually for the Spongeman). This was a journey, and I loved it. I’m happy someone else is going on the same trek as me, because The Fairly OddParents is a very big commitment to watch the whole way through. There’s a place in my heart too for the classic seasons, despite all the yelling, cynicism and dated humour that slowly trickled in. (Like frankly, some of the stereotype humour wouldn’t have even been okay for the 1960s.) I think what keeps this part of the run an investing watch is that it did start off with heart, fun characters and limitless potential. So when it did get repetitive and flanderised around Seasons 4 and 5, it wasn’t a dealbreaker because the groundwork was so strong. Your insight into specific trends and callbacks was pretty cool to see. I’d actually forgotten how tight the continuity was on this show. And while there was already a downward trajectory by the end of this run, I can’t wait to see how the last 5 seasons go for you. Maybe you’ll like some episodes I never cared much for, there’s still tons of interesting stories despite how bad it got. Besides, I know you’d never be completely disappointed with a show touched by Scott Fellows.

I was today years old when i found out that the buff fairy is a parody of Arnold Schwarzenegger and not, like the name in my country’s dub suggests, Jean Claude van damme…

I have two theories about Timmy's parents' names I go back and forth on: - They're named Terry and Teri, keeping the alliteration and fitting with the timing of Sherlock Holmes saying "Your names are..." and getting cut off by the slamming of a book with just enough time for one or two syllables before they confirm he was correct - They're literally named Dad and Mom, or slightly longer names that easily shorten to this. I believe this is also the case of the parents in Cow & Chicken, and feels more in line with the show's humor overall.

It's funny you're posting this cuz I just rewatched the Oh Yeah Cartoons shorts, partly cuz of Mr Enter's Top 10 OYC shorts. They ALL still hold up well!!! Wish I could say the same about half of the series. I actually agree with Alpha Jay that Meet The Odd Parents should've been the final episode. It was perfect: came out a few months after the show's 10th anniversary, has a concept that was never fully explored before and it even ends with a book being closed! It may not have been as perfect of a "just in case" finale as Channel Chasers but at least it felt like a finale, especially compared to the one we got! Edit: commenting as I'm going along, I actually always shipped Timmy with Veronica more than either Tootie or Trixie. Still wish they wrote her character more positively, eventually becoming a part of his friend group and endgame love interest. At least Braceface and As Told By Ginger did something similar to this. Edit Poof!: You didn't mention that Method Man and Redman voiced HP and Sanderson in the School's Out AND Fairy Idol songs!

I’m curious. How would you write Veronica more positively/ integrate her into the friend group? I’ve never seen either show you brought up as examples. I’m working on my own interpretation where this sort of happens.

Oh god, me too. It wasn't my favorite Nick show - that honor ironically went to Spongebob first and now it's Jimmy Neutron/Invader Zim - but I watched it a lot with my Dad.

On the art style, a lot of people in the Danny Phantom fandom (Phandom if you will) attribute Steve as making things more expressive and stylised than Butch. Especially in storyboards Steve worked on. Idk how much Steve worked on FOP, but his leaving is often cited as the decline in show quality in DP S3

This retrospective is just as entertaining as the show. I remember watching this program in college for its humor and visuals. Tara Strong and Daran Norris were hilarious.

You mean it ages about as well as one of those *TOTALLY RAD* cartoons and it is solely because of its charm that we talk about it? Yeah, I see it.

Its kinda weird how so many interesting chacters and lore stuff the show just kinda forgets later on. I feel like if the show didn't forgot these things it would have lasted at least a couple more seasons without the we run out of idea feel
