@melbapatti Fully in agreement with your comments. I saw Gedda in concerts , operas and oratorio plus I had a conversation with him about vocal technique. He is a wise and down to earth gentleman. His command of languages and vocal dynamics is unequaled. He is a tenor to be studied as an exemplary artist.

I had the great honour to have a master class with this great lyric tenor in Sweden in 1973. Along with Jussi, Lanza, Domingo, Caruso he was the finest interpreter of lyric. His phrasing, timing and fenomenal voice portrayed evrything that the composers had in mind. I believe that he is in Sweden. Do you know different than I welcome information. Bravo Nikolai The Baldchemist

Uno dei più belli duetti d'amore ed intriganti del mondo dell'opera. Due interpreti di grandissima classe. Risultato 10 minuti di godimento celestiale. One of the most beautiful and intriguing love duets in the world of opera. Two very classy performers. Result 10 minutes of heavenly enjoyment.

Magnificent, how beautiful, how much love in them. It is an oceanic performance orchestra and singers into one tremendous wave of sound. Gedda, impecable, Pilar, may she rest in peace, truly a wonderful soul of a singer.

Madama Butterfly with Gedda and Callas (with Karajan) is considered one of the best versions of this opera.

YES! Gedda can mold to any style, language, and sings with a sensual passion, rather than mechanical technique like many others. You hit it on the head.

The 1st act duet from Butterfly is generally divided into 3 parts: "Viene la sera" (line sung by Pinkerton); "Bimba dagli occhi" (line sung by Pinkerton) and "Vogliatemi bene" (line sung by Butterfly). This clip indeed starts at "Bimba dagli occhi". "Vogliatemi bene" is sung at 03.58 in this clip.

Pavarotti listen to a really great lyric tenor who always sang the music in the published keys. Compare their high D's in Puritani Gedda's are not bleats. The performance at hand is really quite thrilling and has added interest since she did'nt make all that many recordings. The unison top C at the end is stunning.

Today I know that this cannot only be achieved with technique, practice, experience and ability. That's just the preliminary work. Character always expresses itself whether you want it to or not. Only a beautiful character can really achieve such beautiful tones in the end.

As far as I know he is mainly in Switzerland, where he bought a house in 1968, though he used to spend a lot of time in Sweden. I didn't know that he held master classes already at that time. Tell us, Thebaldchemist, how was Gedda as a person.
@thebaldchemist16 жыл бұрын
Hello Herur. Thank you for the information. Well, at the risk of being over subjective, besides being very critical. He would not stand for incompetence. Modesty was not one of his characteristics. and why should it be; he had acquired musical genius. Along with Bjorling, Lanza, Gigli, Caruso, Domingo and of course Luciano, Nikolai Gedda was In my taste perhaps the finest lyric tenor ever. Those that love fanulous voices should spoil themselves and listen to Ivan Rebroff all 4.5 octaves.
@henkmueller25508 жыл бұрын
Wow, where have those lyric tenors gone to?
@andrekhamasmie86352 жыл бұрын
All the wonderful voices from back then still exist. Including these lyrical tenors. In reality nothing has been lost. You just have to know these singers. But most people don't know them anymore because they are no longer published and no longer promoted. They deliberately hype mediocre or even bad singers. One has to call it what it is: a battle against the beautiful, aesthetic and free. But not for long.
@henkmueller25502 жыл бұрын
@@andrekhamasmie8635 Thanks, why do you think the battle will be won. I myself come from a singers world, am a tenor myself and read and listen as much to modern singers. Bu I love especially Gedda whom i heard a couple of times life. He could do everything with his voice, and so could Wunderlich. Name me one tenor who is as multifaceted as Gedda. Ofcourse I like Alagna, i heard him as young singer in Rome in a Zeferelli production. Stunning. But Gedda is thé master of technic

OK -- MrrK is actually right in one respect. Gedda was a god, but this is far from his best. He's just loud most of the time. Where are all those wonderful tone colors and dynamic shades he did so well.
@olofholm86125 жыл бұрын
This is not that sort of music. This is Puccini and there is no place for nuances of Gedda's type.

Well... I am a huge fan of NG. This performance is still very good. But... the Gedda of 1977 cannot be the one of 1960-1970 at his golden voice. He is still powerful, expressive but here a bit rough sometimes.

Huge repertoire? Substantial repertoire for full roles considering she was under contract with one opera house mostly and what she did abroad was pretty much the same roles she sang in Berlin, but unfortunately not huge, and it is known she turned down at least 2 roles because she was reluctant to sing just any Verdi, only a sample of roles she was fully comfortable with, and she didn't feel connection with Richard Strauss music
