I am surprised more people don't grow tobacco, it is relatively hardy and easy to grow, and has more uses than just smoking.
It also makes a great insecticide!
Here are my thoughts on it....

I'm going to try growing nicotiana rustica or "kessu" as it's known in Finnish just for fun and a few smokes. I don't generally smoke but it's an interesting tradition of growing your own tobacco here last it was very common during and after the wars so I'm going to continue it.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on Tobacco being a barter aspect. Especially well cured Rustica. If you can get some Perique, jar your Rustica alongside it for Curing, they play very well together and taste amazing 50/50

tobacco is definitely interesting I definitely don't recommend smoking it but before I got into the music industry, I studied herbalism and one thing that caught my attention in my herbalism course was a lesson called the forgotten medicinal properties of tobacco now keep in mind the tobacco I am talking about is wild tobacco ( Nicotiana Rustica ) commercial domesticated to tobacco ( Nicotiana Tobacum ) has no medicinal properties left in it after domestication. But wild tobacco ( Nicotiana Rustica ) was traditionally used as a natural pain reliever and to dry up mucus in the nasal cavity to clear up nasal congestion so I found that very interesting it's a shame what we turned tobacco into as a society but hopefully someday that will change who knows.

This isn't really true. Virtually any type of tobacco can offer the specific health benefits you describe, often even if it's been prepared for retail. People are so quick to conflate mass-produced cigarettes with tobacco in general. Also, the presence of side effects doesn't necessarily negate health benefits; applying that standard would basically throw any and all medicine out the window. It's a matter of determining if the desirable effects outweigh the side effects and potential risks. Smoking any type of medicine isn't worth it, but luckily smokeless tobacco exists.

I've grown Virginia tobacco in the past to honor one of my great grandfathers from the hills of North Carolina. This year I grew two different strains of Rustica for a friend of mine. He provided me with Ojibway and Cherokee seed . He gave me some Odawa seed but to late to start plants for the 2021 growing season. I'll grow all three strains next year. This was a trying growing year due to wind, rain, temperature and humidity. Liked your comments and thoughts Carpos!

I got some seeds from my mom who got them from a friend from Canada. I grew some sacred corn planter and the mystery seeds this year. I'm at 5000ft above sea level in Utah with very low humidity. The corn planter grew well but the plant itself is kind of small. The mystery plants went crazy and depending on how much shade each one has gotten have produced very different leaves. Some VERY DARK green thick and others lime green and thin. The point to this super long post is I'm now convinced that the mystery plants I grew are mohawk like you held up in the video. The shape and structure of my leaves are exactly the same. It would make sense that someone from the north west would have been growing that variety up there too. So thank you awesome video!

We call it in Ukraine "Makhorka", it is green and have lumps in mix, very strong and have different from regular tobacco taste. Makhorka is easy to grow and proceed, but intend for poorest smokers and not so popular as "turkish tobacco" (Nicotiana Tabacum). I have seeds and intend to grow some quantity for killing fleas and to have emergency reserve of smoking staff

If you ever decide to come back to Facebook, there is a group that I would love to have you join. The two main operators are dealing with seed grown genetics of kratom plants and are experimenting with cultivars(?) that are more conducive to our environment. Kratom isn’t actually evergreen, it is deciduous in nature and it can survive a Michigan winter outside. One small tree thought dead had actually gone dormant and has been thriving again after 6 months of being bare. Be well

I am growing tobacco for the first time right now, waiting for seeds to germinate. I have sprinkled 2,000 seeds into a plastic tray 2.5' by 4' depth of soil is 4 inches. Problem is I have left them in my wooden storage shed. It has been maybe 70 degrees in the day, 47 degrees at night... will the seeds not germinate or just be "slow" in doing so? I am using a 2 different types of "Virginia" type tobacco for pipe smoking and live in the Southeast. I will have to look into the Nicotiana Rustica seeds in the future. I was unaware of them. I quit smoking cigarettes for a few years ($55 a carton) to pipe smoking which I enjoy ($65 for 5lbs) I do not have a furrowed garden per say but have been considering if I can grow 100 strong plants from seedlings to then placing them in various locations throughout my yard as if they were ornamental bushes, ;-) I may even line the drive way with them, but let me ask you please, will the deer eat them? I do have a lot of deer at night in the yard.

Usually they will pop out in a week or two, sometimes they take longer. The temperatures should be fine. Mine pop-up in the garden I live in the Pacific Northwest.. Hey, I've been growing rustica for three years, and I'm still making mistakes and learning. One thing, I don't think it's prohibited to grow tobacco in Australia or the UK, but you have to declare it to the government. Also, did the Turkish introduce tobacco to Europeans? I thought it was the other way round. Just curious.

IfI remember correctly, if you grow any tobacco in Britain you have to pay the excise duty on the tobacco grown to the government. I’d be tempted to grow it for my own use, but the paperwork and effort involved in growing it legit means it’s not worth my time compared to just growing tomatoes, potatoes, raspberries and a fuschia bush in the garden instead.
