The old MD11 in our Nidelv 24 "yacht" starts after some persuasion at an ambient temp of 8˚C. The rear cylinder fires first and I use the decompression handle to let the engine rev up before I activate the front cylinder . That's an old trick I learned from a guy that has fiddled around with MD11/MD17 engines for many years.
