Ending E's credit sequence with the sound effects disabled.
The song is a mix of various versions of Weight of the World. See if you can pick out Yoko Taro's voice in the chorus.
Copyrights belong to their respective owners. Please support the official release of the NieR: Automata Original Soundtrack when it comes out on March 29, 2017.

@@scary5455 Yes, and Saintsfearful's interpretation is that the song as a whole rejects the theme of nihilism that laid dormant through the entirety of the Nier: - Series. In Replicant/Gestalt the story tells how useless it is to fight against a great perceived evil as its defeat will still not change the end of your culture and world; the interludium between Drakengard and Nier tells a story how useless the struggle agaisnt the White Chlorination was as it managed to infect the entire globe; Automata tells how useless it was to stand against the alien intruders for mankind AND how shallow the alien servitude was. It was all null. Nothing, in vain - the essence of Nihilism. And then there comes this song in with 2B cries in agony how she has the weight of the world on her shoulders *and yet persists* That she longs for the aid for her God to help her carrying the burden and how she needs help and faces so many detriments. That she cannot shoulder the burden o other people's life anymore *and still keeps on going* At the end, only the producers of the song of the one correct interpretation. And I too kyour ragebait and argue with you about a beautiful, touching song in it's most touching and beautiful variant. Do not take pride in this.

Also, you choose to kill the creators. In the first four endings, you pretty much just watch them in the roll credits and accepting the fates of A2, 2B, and 9S determined by the creators. The tactical pods accepts their fate and follows through project YorHa by shutting themselves down. But in ending E, pod 042 rejects the androids’ fates set by the creators, and rejects the plan to shut down.

There are parallels from religion to psychology to even logic in this game. I have yet to find another series, besides Nission (Monogatari, Katanagatari and Zaregoto) that does this effectively. at first I didn't accept any assistance thinking it would change the ending or something so I spent a good 40 minutes failing over and over again... I gave up and accepted assistance only to realize that it was actually the right way to go and the first thing that caught my attention was the soundtrack, it just made me speechless which led to the decision to sacrifice my save data to help others without any regrets at all because I wanted others to experience this amazing moment. This game is an absolute masterpiece.

@@HoangTran-go2hc Actually, I'm pretty sure the first ever saves were from beta-testers and the devs themselves. The voices of 2B and 9S have admitted to inputting their "saves" and a message for the players. They didn't actually beat the game, though. The devs just allowed the members who worked on the project to create "saves"... yeah, in a way, they are fake. But they are still REAL PEOPLE.

What I love so much about Nier is that it gives you something it doesn't need to give; a happy ending. It could easily end with Route C or D, leave the player feeling sad and empty at the end. Either A2 dies at the hands of 9S, who dies as well, or A2 dies while 9S has little chance of surviving. But it doesn't end like that. The Credits of the game were never the Credits, they were a memory leak the whole time. In this final bullet-hell sequence, you, the player, fix that memory leak as Pod 042. And after you win, if you choose to not save your data, you get your happy ending. 2B, A2, and 9S are all rebuilt with their memories intact. They let you have a happy ending, and thats amazing because no one else would give you one. Nier:A was content to rip out your heart time and time again, but unlike something akin to Dark Souls, it doesn't leave on a sad note or leave you with a feeling of emptiness inside, it gives you one last shot, one final boss to fight, and if and when you succeed, it gives you something very few games of this emotional caliber will give you. Closure.
@JerichoDeath

That you might help someone you dislike. You won't get a reward But when you agree, you can help other to break the circle. And that's the point when I realized: holy smokes they pulled a religious one on me here. Not abrahamitic, no: Buddhism. You can't leave the circle of life if you don't let go your past. Every time someone accidentally died, i felt so bad. Each person who deleted their data to help me and i couldn't keep them alive. Everyone knew exactly what they were doing by sacrificing their data, so others could beat this and see the ending to this masterpiece in video game form. It's nice to know that no matter the hardships, some people out there are willing to make the sacrifice for a total stranger, even someone who they might hate. In the end, the game taught me, and I'm sure others, that no matter the hardships, there are people out there who are willing to help us carry the "weight of the world".

1 month ago I carried that weight, alone. I wanted to ask for help so many times, but I couldn't (very slow internet in my country). Despite that, I persisted, playing this segment for hours upon hours until finally, I bested it. I can say with pride that this game has helped me mentally, and emotionally as someone who struggles to think optimistically, giving up before really even trying. Playing this game, I learnt to have compassion for others, regardless of who they are because everyone is fighting for something or someone. I learnt to cherish my friends and family, because even though we won't always be together, the memories we share will last for a lifetime. And most importantly, I learnt that I should not just live for myself, living for others and seeing them smile gave more meaning to my life. After finishing this game I did some serious introspection, now from a couch potato I am more active than ever (hitting the gym), studying harder than ever (I major in Computer Science), and now I have a dream of my own. I hope to one day create something that can have an impact on people the same way this game did for me. From the scenery to the OSTs, this game was just absolutely compelling. It was truly an honor to play this masterpiece, Thank you to the creators for the amazing game.

I feel overlooked like 9S often is, so I fully understood his madness. And I’ve felt isolated and cold like A2. By finishing the main endings and getting E, I was sobbing during the bullet hell sequence. Like I was being given a second chance. I was determined to finish the bullet hell sequence, to prove to myself that I was capable bettering myself. Then I got the rescue offer, and I bawled. The chorus of people I don’t even know supporting me made me felt like I could open up again. After finishing this game, I 100% deleted my save data to help a stranger. Even if they don’t meet me, I want somebody else to heal like this game has healed me. I put the game down with a fresh perspective. I’m determined to change the outcome of my life. Like Pod 042 said: “A future is not given to you. It is something you must take for yourself.”

Deleting your save data to help others is the true ending. Why? Because this breaks the perpetual cycle 2B mentioned. By finishing the game, AND fighting for the androids (we as pods) and lastly deleting our save data. We break the cycle. Now 2B, 9S, A2 are not bound to the story of the repeating loops that we play. They live in their own world which we fought for together :)

For those who don't get why people are reacting to this this way, and the significance of sacrificing save data, here's the only way I can describe this moment: You remember in Dragon Ball Z, when everyone on earth sends Goku their energy/hope so he can make the Spirit Bomb and save the world? This is that, in video game form. And you, the player, are Goku.

i'm also reminded of the final stretch of the last battle in earthbound. the truth is, all the mother/earthbound final battles are non-aggressive in some way. but earthbound specifically, you're praying for help from the outside world. so many NPC's are praying for the success of ness and his friends. and in the end, when things are really looking grim, it's you yourself as the player giving that one final push for success.

I think the core value is that the only way to give a sense to this life is by taking part to the humankind enterprise, which is accomplished by being thankful to those who were and by giving it all to those who will come, it all cannot be achieved without us truly expressing ourselves. It takes the thesis “me”, the antithesis “you” and gives back the synthesis “us”

I had never played Nier but when Automata came out, I bought it day 1. I went through confused, overwhelmed but loved the combat and setting. As I learned about how the story was being told and the multiple endings it sucked me in, and I cared for every character. So many moments and trials but I never expected an end credit like this. Never before have I been unable to continue playing because I was crying so much. Yet, it was the reassuring and uplifting messages that made me cry the most. This right here is why I will never stop playing games as long as I'm able. Because there are people that can create beautiful works of art like this game and specifically this ending. I gladly gave up my data so someone else would never give up. I'm sure it's gone, I 100% completed it to be sure I had everything to lose and nothing to gain at the end, even though I did not expect this ending. I haven't played Automata since I beat it all those years ago and if just watching this still makes me cry, I know that one day, when I do decide to take the plunge again, I will reach this point and be reminded that I was born in the best time to be a gamer, to be a nerd and a geek and that I am proud to be one.

Out of every game I have played over the past 20 years, I can safely say that this one is my favorite, and likely will always be my favorite. I just can’t give this kind of emotional reaction to any movie or TV show. NieR: Automata is a masterpiece, and it further proves video games to be more than what most would label them as. Deleting my save file for another player was no big deal because I am more than willing to experience this again. Hopefully they remaster the first game (and possibly the Drakengard games) so I can experience that game again as well.

Sometimes i like to watch this again just to feel something and to remind myself that not everything needs an answer and my struggles aren’t unique… There will always be someone out there, fighting the good fight and even though it sometimes may feel like the odds are against us or it feels almost impossible… You’re not alone and even when your legs give up….you get up and keep walking, always fighting back with all you have and showing the world that you’re dreams aren’t meaningless. I don’t know what the future holds for anyone who manages to read this…even for myself but this game showed that my struggles, my pain, all the good and the bad aren’t meaningless and that i need to keep trying and giving my best to make everything i want come true. I Love You and wish you the best. Atte. Some Random guy with an existential crisis
