Lep. is paying Vivian the most he's ever made in his entire career, but I think that's why he does this side stuff, helps balance it all out.

I disagree with him being wasted. His solos in Def Leppard songs are fantastic and he obviously has a groove he gets into with them. Not that I don't love him being heavier too he's just a great guitarist overall.

Hot Rodz Guitarz...I see your point on Viv in Leppard but you have to look at a range of factors that were relevant, applicable 'at the time he joined'. Vivian has been enormously respected within the industry for decades. He was doing his thing at the time but when the real talent of Def Leppard passed away, the genius whom was Steven Maynard 'The Riffmaster' Clark who's shoes NO ONE can EVER fill, the band needed a second co lead. They really looked for a long time to make sure they got it right. They knew Vivian personally, had for a long time. Yes, replacing 'Steamin' was NEVER going to be easy, like what the band who helped give Leppard a break in supporting acts AC/DC faced with Bon Scott. Replacing Bon was similar to Steve. Steve has, as Viv even notes as he is so so modest said "what we play 90 per cent Steve left us". Leppard are not a band to just chop and change. They have only ever made changes that have been forced unlike so many other bands, Rick was never going to be replaced as he wanted to stay and showed with tech changes and pure will he wanted to stay, and has. Pete Willis sadly was just too unworkably orientated, but he had massive success when they took off with Pyro, OTTN, HnD, he toured the US twice and Canada. Leppard wanted someone who was going to tick ALL their boxes and Viv has. He can play Collen off the stage, he has dropped down to play their style of music which apart from pre Pyro, all post Pyro work with the exceptions of GoW, TLFL, Foolin and a few others off the stunning 25 million plus Hysteria, the songs are not owing to heavyish riffing like Viv had with Dio.. Yes he us under used, yes since reverting back to a tremolo free LP Collen has taken over more as the set list had to change. It is what it is but he a for Gods sake having fun, has now for 20 pus years. Is settled, a multi millionaire, and is, has ALWAYS been treated with respect by Leppard. A real co owner of all tracks re recorded wile they had problems with the label that owned all their original material, since legally, contractually sorted. So now Vivian gets royalties for all new/re recorded Leppard records but not the releases up to Adrenalize. Not bad. Watch Viv play these Leppard songs. Watch him give it 110 per cent. Leppard are one of the few bands from the NWOBM that can still fill an arena, and despite this China Virus stuffing up everyone, this industry included, Viv has a great lifestyle. Has beaten cancer twice, married, kids, has a lovely mix in terms of being settled professionally, work/life balance, and can do his Dio Last In Line material live which he loves, albeit without a man I never ever heard of until I knew of Viv as I was not a Dio fan, that being the late Jimmy Bain. He is a professionally gifted muso. But also out of respect to the genius he has since joining taken over from.

I always thought that Craig Goldy was lackluster compared to Vivian Campbell, although I did like that song "Time to Burn" from Dio album "Intermission"

this isn't really a cover other than a different singer and bass player. Originally "Last in Line" was the original Dio band but bassist Bain passed away in 2016, so they got Phil to play bass who played for Ozzy back in the 80's for a little while.. But when a band gets a different singer is it still considered a "cover song"? Not sure.

Phil's playing has never moved me. I find nothing about it to be appealing to listen to. I am a huge fan of Steve Clark's playing, but never cared for Phil's. It's sterile and uninspiring. To each their own.

@@TazTaylorBand It just seems like the best set up - especially since so many of us started playing with 4-piece kits with 1 rack and 1 floor tom - so it allows you to put the ride over the kick - which is the way Vinny played the whole time. Granted, he had 2 toms in front, but they were always on a stand rather than on the kick. One thing I have noticed as that working drummers usually carry way less, and since he probably doesn't have a designated drum roadie for this stuff - it's just easier to use a smaller kit... plus he went to the big kit at the request of Iommi. His first gig with Black Sabbath he used a kit about like this, and they were used to Bill Ward and the huge Double Bass kits he'd been using since about 1976.

Dio was a great singer but a bloody mard arse spitting his dummy out lol he knew vivian made the band dio end off. Every album after vivian left was very lame and no tasty licks or riffs ! I respect vivian for leaving for whitesnake then def leppard, he wanted woman and money 😊 only people at dios gigs were men, one big sausage fest lol thats why dio hated vivian end of lol

Vivian wasn't getting paid the way he should have, he and RJD didn't get along and Vivian wanted to get out and be around people in a band that he enjoyed being around. That's what he did. But I thought Dream Evil was a pretty solid album, still my top 3 fav. dio albums... Goldy did a good job.

@@ryant3600 Dream Evil is my third fav behind Holy Diver and Last in Line. Craig Goldy did a great job and the songwriting was pretty strong on it.

Steven Miller I saw Dio about 1982 I think Antrim Forum Queensryche were back up I loved Ronnie his voice was powerful as was Geoff Tates I tend to go for the music so I’ll attend concerts because of my love for rock music and there were other women there too so it wasn’t a male dominated concert
