Hundreds of people backing the coup in Niger gathered Thursday for a mass rally in the capital Niamey. The demonstrators converged at Independence Square in the heart of the city, following a call by a coalition of civil society associations on a day marking the country's 1960 independence from France. FRANCE 24's Senior Reporter Catherine Norris Trent tells us more.

Why would you be bothered or frustrated because someone refuses your aid or partnership? Unless it is never an Aid. Thats how it works: They Take 1 billion dollar worth of Uranium for exemple and come back with 1 million dollar “Aid” then that cash is shared by the top 12 government officials and their families only.

The crowd is celebrating the second independence from French exploitation. You know that. ECOWAS will not and should not start a war on the behalf of Western imperialists. Instead renegotiate their mining deals and pledge true development, and take fighting terrorists seriously. That will bring an end to all this.

Nigeria have cut off Electricity supply to Niger, and more sanctions are sure to come. However we need some other African Countries to have talks with ECOWAS to see that Talks rather are a Better way to go about this and they need to RESPECT the Sovereignty of Niger people. I was saying the other day that there are two types of coups the one that people embrace and dictatorial coup where local population is killed abused and lots of corruption normally installed by the west the best example in mabuto seseseko drc and Charles Taylor in Liberia, example of a good coup is from Rwanda and that is paul kagame. When a civilian government doesn’t bother about the welfare of the people, does it worth being in office? When a civilian government is too corrupt, is it worth being in office? Is that what democracy means? We should look beyond the means by which a group comes to power. In the Western world, governments are held accountable but not so in Africa whether elected or not.

When you have large numbers of citizens celebrating the deposition of a democratically elected leader, you know the place is screwed. The Sahel nations can reap what they sow. God knows Europe has tried to help in recent decades. We should just withdraw and leave them to it. Secure the European borders for good and make sure no one else gets in. Other than extreme circumstances, anyone who comes to Europe illegally should lose refugee status automatically.
