Pounded yam can also be made by boiling yam normally till very soft, and pounding it with a pestle and mortar.

This isn't ponded yam, it's poundo yam, an easier pseudo pounded yam. Pounded yam is usually pounded in a mortar with pestle and it is actually fluffy. It is made with well cooked yam.

I was expecting him to pound the yam. If you're not going to pound the freshly boiled yam with a pestle and mortar then don't call it pounded yam. And for those in the comment section calling pounded yam and other swallows fufu,it is not fufu. Fufu is a whole other dish. At least here in Nigeria it is. I don't know where y'all are from

Please don't be giving out wrong information. The only people I know who call every swallow "fufu" are foreigners. We don't go to restaurants or people's homes, saying I want to eat fufu as an umbrella term when what you want is actually pounded yam. The taste, texture, aroma and what soups can be eaten with all types of "swallow" or "okele" differs greatly. I will either unfriend/blacklist or smack somebody if anybody gives me FUFU when I expressly asked for POUNDED YAM. These are some of the different types of "swallow" i.e doughy staples available in Nigeria. Pounded yam is made from cooked yam (Abuja or benin variant mostly as they're very white) boiled till it is soft and mashable. The yam is then put in a mortal using a pestle to pound and get it soft and doughy while adding in the boiling hot yam water at intervals while turning it from side to side so it all gets pounded evenly. Fufu: is made from cassava that is blended, cooked and turned on the cooker then left to rest and rise. Eba(Yoruba tribe)or Garri(Igbo tribe): Is a type of swallow or staple made from cassava flakes duly fried and dried know as "Garri". This type of staple in turned in boiling hot water without placing/cooking it over an heat source. There is also yellow garri which is popular in the East among the Igbo people mostly. Other types of doughy staple swallow consumed by Nigerians are: Starch, Akpu, Amala,Tuwo, Lafun, Semo, Wheat etc. DON'T JUST REFER TO EVERYTHING AS FUFU PLEASE....learn their actual names
