BattaBox London is back!!!! If you live in London, you just might find us in your neighborhood.
Today on BattaBox, our new presenter Mary Macaulay hits the streets of London to ask Nigerians - Where do you prefer to live? Nigeria or Uk?
"There is no place like home," replies one man
Due to the instability of the Nigerian economy, lots of Nigerians in the diaspora and especially the UK have refused to come home, but where do they really prefer to live?
"Here (UK) is better, we have light, we have anything we want here," one woman answers
While majority of the people we talked to would prefer to live in the Uk, others still long to live in Nigeria.
"Nigeria is better," one of the Arab shop owners replies.
"Nigeria is good, very nice place to stay," yells one man
Apparently Nigerians would move back home in mass if only Nigeria has constant electricity and a better economy...
Watch and enjoy!

I noticed most men said they prefer to live in Nigeria while most women said they prefer to live in the UK. The reason is deeper than just wanting to be in White man's land. Women are respected and have their rights protected abroad. There is less pressure on women to be a certain way more freedom for women in the UK as opposed to Nigeria. Men are always jostling for power so of course they'd like to live back in Nigeria. However where you prefer to live does not make you less or more patriotic. There are many Nigerians in Ghana who still love Nigeria but prefer to live outside the country for one reason or other.

@@fabbeyonddadancer Western/British patriarchal culture? 💀💀💀 I was expecting an ignorant comment like this. The rights women have in these countries is because of FEMINISM, not patriarchy. Making false dichotomies where protecting women’s rights is a product of Western/British “patriarchy” doesn’t make protecting women’s rights immoral, but rather gives a bad look on Nigeria and Nigerian men.

People need to answer questions based on what it is like at that moment compared to where they are. And if you prefer to live one place vs the other why stay somewhere you don't want to be? I personally prefer the UK because it provides more opportunities for personal growth and other things.But it is nice to be in a country where we dominate and so on. However, Nigeria has to improve in a lot of areas before I could live there on a permanent basis.

Born and raised in Nigeria but prefer living in the UK for now. Life is easy here. There are opportunities here too, you have to shine your eye well well. @josephbishara4791
@josephbishara4791 5 жыл бұрын
@@rivvy2138 Not exactly. In the UK, you have to follow rules. In the Nigeria, you don't have to follow rules. Nigeria is for people who have contacts and people who are skilled at bending rules. In Nigeria, you can get a £1m contract to build a road and spend only £100K. You can pocket the remaining £900K and you won't get arrested. That's why Nigeria is in a mess. That's why the roads and electricity are in a bad state. Also, in Nigeria, you can get a contract to build a road even though you don't have the qualifications. You can't do that in the UK. So if you have the contacts (in big companies or in government) and you're unscrupulous, you can make a lot of money in Nigeria.

It’s a well known fact that nigeria has serious infrastructure problems from poor roads to serious electricity supply difficulties. Also hearing recently that 20,000 primary school teachers were sacked for failing an exam aimed at 6 year olds makes things worse. Nigeria maybe full of money but the naira is virtually worthless because of successive governments failing to address inflation and rising unemployment problems.

Akinfolarin Joshua The electricity issue is one of the main, if not THE main reason, for Nigeria's continued decline. They need to get it together.

I've lived in Nigeria, UK and North America. America is a land of opportunuties and a great country but UK is the best place to live among those 3 and I am pretty sure, one of the best places to live in the World. Among those 3, Nigeria is the worst place to live and I am very sure, one of the worst places to live in the World.However, Nigeria is the easiest place to make money because it is by far, the most lawless of all three and I am sure one of the most lawless in the World. #justkeepingitreal.

I prefer to live in any African country than to live in Europe! If I don't feel happy in Nigeria I can go and live in Ghana or Kenya. I would definitely prefer that than to continue living in the UK, even though this is where I am based at the moment. The UK is not home! I step out of the plane anywhere in Africa and I immediately feel at home.

Tabs T ....yes thank you for saying that, I don't blame them and of course they will miss things about Nigeria it's not all going to be a bed of roses in the UK obviously the cold and perhaps feeling lonely for family and friends but I wish they would be truthful about why living in the UK is easier, obviously electricity and fuel.........you guys didn't betray Nigeria.....your corrupt government and political leaders betray all Nigerians daily they are greedy beyond belief with the help of richer countries taking resources from Africa ......many more Nigerians would like to leave some will .......but will find themselves in countries where they are not wanted or racial discrimination towards them will raise its ugly head, but then again I see plenty of Africans discriminating against fellow Africans for instance in South Africa.

How can the quality of life be better in Nigeria than in the UK? I live in central. Europe and I wouldnt trade the world for going elsewhere. Just curious.
@superAweber
@superAweber 8 жыл бұрын
+MrKaplanFilm The _psychological_ quality of life can be significantly higher in Nigeria (for some people). In the UK many people (natives included) feel isolated and disconnected. You do NOT experience such in Nigeria. Over there you often even feel connected to strangers and them to you. And you speak to each other without inhibition or internal barriers. Extended families are big there and you visit without invitation or warning. All this is why some people rate the quality of life as higher in Nigeria. I hope that makes sense. I can't understate the importance of this because I've seen one Nigerian unhappy and suffering psychologically in the UK and I've heard of others. I saw this person return to Nigeria and change back to happy.

superAweber the problem with many poverty minded nigerians is that they put their basic needs above their mental health. many nigerians are in the insane asylum in england because of boredom and depression, but many can never understand the richness in being in nigeria despite a somewhat lower quality of life with the light situation.

AMUN-ATEN HATHOR You could be right, but I think a lot do understand. That's why the popular dream is to make a lot of money and then return home. And really, all over the world, ambitious men put their drive for riches ahead of their health - with consequences. Maybe not Europeans as they are less ambitious but definitely Americans. Nigerians are often hugely ambitious. I don't agree with your use of the term "poverty minded". If you're calling the determined pursuit of cash poverty minded then your perspective is too spiritual for some realities here on Earth.
