Talking about snapper i would be interested to know why in New Zealand they are around all year but not in Victoria i thought the water would be colder in New Zealand in winter than in Aus ?

Water is slightly warmer in the northern parts of NZ than Victoria.

Are snapper still on the bite in western port and port phillip?

Yeah this time of year can be hit and miss as water temp is around 22 degrees and snapper love 15-18 degrees, but we have found evenings and nights especially around Full moon to be very good.

what species is the fish at 1:40?

Its a Ling, they can grow much bigger especially offshore.

That caught my eye too as I haven't seen one before and we don't have that specific species here in NZ. As our man says, it's locally known as a rock ling, but it belongs to the cusk eel family. Scientific name: Genypterus tigerinus.

Thanks John, The glove as Daiwa UV gloves, there fantastic as they are very light weight and keep your hands from getting burnt and easier when handling fish too. I always use them when fishing.
