So glad you picked up Night Train on impulse. This is a lovely thoughtful review. And yes, when those lads in Kharkiv started doing the Burnistoun lift sketch I was actually speechless for a minute. The world's a wee place eh.

Compelling impressions of the book, Cams. Met a gent on a flight from AMS. Had a wee chat with him about my limited Russian. Two weeks later or so on the plane back, I recognized him boarding and said hello. He threw his arms up in joy. I reminded him of his son, he said. Turned out that he and his buddy were physicists at Kyiv University. They saw Chernobyl on a regular basis. He gave me a bottle of Ukrainian vodka I still have. In return, I gave him a bag heaving with liquor miniatures. Very nice folks.

A lovely tale Gary. A culture exchange of bevvy, ha ha. Ukrainians and Scots do tend to get along I find. I loved my year over there.

great review, maybe all book reviews should be from horizontal perspective)) I've been listening to Jan's reading of 4 chapters of the book on a BBC stream, can't wait for the audiobook, i could listen to her forever, her voice/accent puts me in the best of moods. hello to cat!
