Fun night vision story. I was in my backyard messing with nods, looking around and staring at stars. All of a sudden, I see flickering of a dim, but decently bright light behind me. I then noticed my neighbor was sitting in the backyard smoking under candle light. I then started waving at him and for a solid 30 seconds, I was wondering why he wasn't waving back. I then looked at him sideways instead of through the nod, and I realized that I could barely see him because of how dark it was. I then proceeded to feel like an idiot and laugh at the absurdity of it for a few minutes

When I was a kid we took a game that wasn't working to the store and the guy there said that the reason blowing in the cartridge works is because your spit gets on the contacts and temporarily makes the connection stronger. He said that it also corrodes the contacts and that you should only use rubbing alcohol. I then went home and cleaned it with peroxide, because in my dumb child brain it was basically the same thing.

From what I understand, Japan has been cracking down on pachinko, hence why it looks like Konami is actually doing something. Also, as someone who had a copy and played the shit out of it, the randomizer in RE2 is really simple. It just randomizes some consumables. Otherwise, key items and guns are set

I agree with Zach's feelings about .22LR. You can get pistols that hold 20-30 rounds of .22LR. Sometimes you can find something using .22 Magnum (really wish that round was the standard .22 that every bought). Put all of those in the face of an attacker will work really well. Also the body will work depending on what organ you hit. Most times when someone is attacked and the defender has a gun, the defender will just unload on the attacker.

@Sevent77 26 күн бұрын
Technically it's just 600mb to 64mb which is still impressive but it's definitely not 1.2gb given that almost every asset in the game is reused in both scenarios Capcom could've fit it on a single disc given some more time but they didn't want to delay it plus CDs were cheap as dirt and they could use that as a marketing ploy, our game is so big it takes two discs. Even on Dreamcast they used two discs even though those could store up to 1gb.

The .22 Long Rifle shots, are lethal to humans, it often is underestimated because "small". But even up to 400 Yards it can Kill a human. But depending on where you hit, most will just be injured, like hands, legs, arms, and more. So it is a lot more dangerous than people believe, and it is definitely good enough for self defence, also can be used with example a varmint rifle to deal with things like rats.

I feel like you would have loved my grandfather on my mom’s side, Zack. He was a field accountant in WW2 and Korea but what he did between the 2 wars you would have found interesting. From 1946 to 1951 my grandfather did the accounting for a few gun prototype projects. He was actually sworn to secrecy for all the projects, a week before he died he decided to tell most of the family what happened. Each gun project had a 10 years of funds for $10 to $50 million. (1) Universal M1911 Basically every possible modification to be done to the pistol including changing the actual caliber. There were over 20 M1911 turned into a .50 caliber. He preferred the rifle M1911 but the generals wanted a bigger caliber but ironically lighter in weight pistol. (2) The Thompson LMG Basically the army wanted to turn the Thompson into a belt felt machine gun and also change the caliber. (3) “Advance” M1 Grande The Navy wanted a lighter BAR so they made an M1 Grande full auto. Then they added an over head stick magazine. Then they made a bottom push up magazine. Then they started to add things like flashlights, scopes, silencers, and anything else you can possibly do to mode a gun like in Call of Duty. (4) The Spy gun The general and leaders of a government agency that eventually becomes the CIA fell in love with the Liberator. Over $50 million was spent to make the Liberator into a better gun. 19 prototypes were created, 5 worked and 2 were both mass produced and then a shelled in a military armory in Texas. The “good” one was basically a cheaper made M1911 in the style of the liberator but without all the regular annoyance of reloading each shot. You just had to manually slide the gun slide back and forth after each shot. 5,000 were made. The “bad” one was a bigger caliber 3 shot revolver with a silencer that you could not remove but the hand guard could. You also could fire the gun without the hand guard and remove the “revolver” piece for faster reloading. 12,000 were made and sent to a military armory in California. (5) America’s first assault rifle The only project my grandfather wanted to be apart of and saw actually potential. The Rangers and select OSS groups wanted an Americanize version of the STG-44. 3 prototypes were created. The FG-42 mixed with an M1 Grande basically, the STG-44 in the caliber of .30-06, and a very square looking AK style rifle. In 1948 America got their hands on an AK-47. In 1949 the second 2 prototypes were stopped being produced even though they worked fine. The second prototype had over 6,000 made and the third prototype had over 10,000 made. Both sets of those prototypes were sent to a military armory in Pennsylvania. The FG-42 mixed with the M1 grande never worked. Technically only the .48 caliber M1911 was in service for one special operations mission. There was an actual full auto .50 M1911. My grandfather said the projects that did not waste money should have been sworn to secrecy and not the tax payer money wasted projects.

Clarifying N64 output, all N64's natively support Composite output (Yellow, White, Red cables) and all NTSC and most PAL N64's support S-Video (DIN connector,) PAL regions did also typically support SCART format cables however these were outputting Composite or S-Video. Through hardware modding you can add RGB output supporting RGB Scart or separate RCA cables depending on what your TV supports. RGB is upscaled better than Composite and S-Video. (side note the HDMI converter thing Zach has is an upscaler) It may be possible to support YPbPr (Component, five RCA cables) output. Which outputs you would use are entirely dependent on region. In he US (NTSC) it was most common to see Composite and S-Video if you were lucky, but RGB was pretty much reserved only for studio/professional monitors. In PAL territories (most of Europe) Composite and S-Video were common, but almost all TVs supported the SCART standard of input which does support RGB, so RGB was more common when supported by the hardware. NTSC later moved on to Component as a better alternative to composite that supported better picture quality and higher resolutions. All these standards were supplanted by HDMI-compatible input. To break down how these formats work, we start by explaining the different signals sent to the TV. The most important signal is Sync, often referred to as Y. The Y signal carries sync information telling the TV what resolution and framerate to display at. It also carries intensity (luminance) this is a black and white signal. Then there is a signal for each primary color, Red, Green, and Blue. Composite sends l these signals down the same line resulting in a blurry image with color artifacting. S-Video Separates the Luminance from the Chrominance (color) which is a slightly cleaner picture. RGB separates all of he signals which results in he cleanest video and support for higher resolutions. YPbPr is similar, however the sync signal is sent along with Green, the result is effectively the same as RGB. HDMI is a form of RGB that is designed specifically for HDTVs and monitors. If you want the best picture out of your retro consoles strive for RGB or YPbPr epending on what your TV supports, though keep in mind RGB can be easily converted to HDMI and YPbPr cannot (though it is possible.) EDIT: The battery in battery backed up cartridges is to keep circuitry running. Saves are stored in SRAM rather than solid state memory like an SD card and so it needs electricity flowing through that SRAM circuit to keep the data in memory. Also it's a good idea to replace those batteries regardless of if they are still working, because batteries have a tendency to leak corrosive alkaline fluid that will corrode and degrade the internal circuitry of the board which they are attached to. Sometimes the damage can be reversed with a lot of hard work, but the damage can become so extensive that the board will be unsaveable. Edit Edit: I'm almost positive that the CRT Zach found at the end is some kind of medical monitor.

New Zealand is PAL (or should that be was? is this still a relevant term?). Only time I ever saw a SCART plug was an adaptor that came with an X-box 360. I had no idea what it was (had to look it up). S-video may have been Around, but it wasn't common. Pretty much everything here was composite... when it wasn't old enough that it was still using antena jacks or built for PC monitors rather than TVs and used ... we called them VGA cables, I can never remember the actual name of that plug type.
@LandisSeralian
@LandisSeralian 23 күн бұрын
@@laurencefraser Ah, you're correct, I should have specified Europe* rather than PAL regions, as Brazil and much of South America similarly use PAL60 instead of standard 50Hz PAL and I'm not sure SCART was common there either. I too use the term VGA cable, but the actual connector type is 15-pin d-sub (had to look that up XD) *France and some eastern European countries used SECAM which is partially PAL compatible, but mostly it's own thing.

33:24 Hey I can explain: by description it sounds like the handhelds are using some type of Random Access Memory (RAM), instead of an SSD or HDD--both subsystems require significant space, and introduce new points of failure. RAM memory on the other hand is just... super light weight, replacing them is dirt cheap, just need the right kind... but they require constant power to maintain the circuit states. HDD/SSD don't have that limitation. What is probably going on, is the onboard RAM is capable of reserving a fraction to 'saves' and then references different checkpoints against the cartridge to figure out what it means. Probably doesn't require a lot of power, at the end of the day.

Modern BIOS chips don't need the battery power to store the BIOS, but the settings and the clock need power by design, so it's easy to reset everything. Also, the reason why old cartridges need batteries is because the memory they use requires power or it will discharge because it's not solid state. Some cartridges also used capacitors for power.

The reason cartridges have batteries is volatile memory, aka DRAM! Basically, the save data in binary is stored as a charge in a shit-squillion tiny little capacitors, with 1s being a different voltage from 0s. If you cut the power, the capacitors loose their charge, so the ability to tell if it was a 1 or a 0 (and thus read any data) is lost. It's only a teeny tiny amount of electricity that's required to maintain the readability, so a watch battery was considered perfectly adequate for the intended application. Stable memory like in an SD card or Switch cartridge works basically by having the 1s and 0s stored in a tiny transistor that can be in one of two positions, which you dictate with applied voltage. They're designed to stay in one of those two positions, like how a light switch wants to be either off or on, so you don't need constant power to keep it in place. This is an EXTRAORDINARILY reductive explanation given by someone with only the vaguest of ideas of how it all works, so take it for the broad strokes explanation that it is, but I hope it's helpful anyway 🙏

15:31 its because CRT's dont have "pixels" in the traditional sense and are distorted to fucking hell. Any console that is optimized for CRT also is interlaced.(example ps1) Interlacing basically cuts the vertical resolution in half to double the framerate. So the playstation is in 480i but in reality is 240p with 2 frames onscreen at the same time. This combined with the distortion from the CRT makes it impossible to see seams in the model. Removing the distortion and interlacing makes the game look like shit. With some filters and messing with the settings can make it look like the original.

I bought a passive infrared night vision made by bresser (BRESSER Digital NV Binokular 1x) the display has an anemic resolution but it works, never tried it to gaze the stars but doubt it works with that resolution

Zack, they ported mercenaries 1 to the modern xbox. I can play it on my series x with widescreen. It's slightly different than the ps2 version in that for some reason, some sound effects are different.

You know the most common and effective self defense cartridge is .22, right Zack? Stopping power is kinda bullshit because getting shot is painful and nobody likes it. Its also just easier to use and cheaper to learn with. The obly problem is when you go hiking, where bears, cougars and hogs are.

Zach should get Resident Evil 3 Nemesis so he can experience all the content that the remake left out.

Zach, 2's Arrange is not a full randomizer, it's a bit like RE1's Arrange mode, just reshuffling the ammo and healing resources with differing amounts in this case and not adding new camera angles.

Emulation isn't as risky or shady as people worry about it being. I emulate all the time because I love PS1 games but I ain't spending a minor fortune on buying equipment and games. I ain't scouring the net to look for an old CRT when I have Retroarch and screen settings that basically replicate the low resolution and blurriness of an old tv. There's also a massive community of people who are building handhelds on android systems specifically for emulating. The retroid pocket 3+ can run PS2 and GameCube games if you play around with the settings.
