Ocho, cognac is pronounced as “con-yak” because it’s French in origin (both the brandy and the word) and not an English word. French pronunciation is different from English pronunciation. Cognac is an actual location in France. It works similarly with French wines. They’re typically named after the region they’re from. Example, Champagne (notice the “g” is silent again) is both a sparkling wine and a region of France where the original grapes to make Champagne are from.
