Siúil, siúil, siúil a rúin Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom. Siúil, siúil, siúil a rúin Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán. I wish I was on yonder hill 'Tis there I'd sit and cry my fill Until every tear would turn a mill. I'll sell my rock, I'll sell my reel I'll sell my only spinning wheel To buy my love a sword of steel. Siúil, siúil, siúil a rúin Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán. I'll dye my petticoats, I'll dye them red And 'round the world I'll beg my bread Until my parents shall wish me dead. Siúil, siúil, siúil a rúin Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán, Siúil, siúil, siúil a rúin, Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom, Siúil, siúil, siúil a rúin, Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán.

Ok o got the idea why she cries until the tears turns a mill bc her lover goes away to a war that's why he needs a steel sword but why would her parents shall wish her dead? and about dyeing the petticoats red? is she going to murder somebody or was it just me misunderstanding that?

Everything sounds so beautiful in it because of how people use it. Most use it for songs in videogames and it is most commonly used in songs with fiddles Dia duit conas atá tú a dhéanamh inniu? Means hello how are you ding today?

The reason it sounds so magical is because the early Irish had many myths that they would pass down through stories and music. There are many tales of Fairies, Werewolfs, Elementals and Banshees passed down in Ireland.

it is rather sad it is sung from the point of view of a girl who was in love with a man (or in some other versions they are dating) but later the man went off to war but before he left the girl sold every thing she had and got him a good blade then he leaves for war and she said he took her heart with him ("i wish i had my heart again") so she gets some money from working and goes out to find him the main part of the song is her asking him (well mostly talking to the air) to walk back into her arms

Ah Robin_Atticus, That's a very German type opinion :o Your comment set out here for two years unchallened till tonight. Let me try to present a differing opinion. The music just is, it has a life all it's own. Putting it down on paper as quarter notes and rests is only an approximation of what soul/idea of the music really is. One example is, How long do you hold a fermata? There are probably a thousand correct answers, if there is one. It can vary with each conductor or performer... and has little to do with a metronome (and that's the simplest way I can put it in text)

@emille mcmillan In the German Version the man leaves for war and gives his wife an rose. He tells her that as long the rose is alright it shows her that he also is ,but when the winter came the rose died and some messengers came to tell her that he passed away in the war.... The song is sung from the view of his wife like she's telling the story and saying how sad she is and that her heart hurts a lot because he passed away... I am not german but my family raised me with several languages that's why I understand the lyrics.

Lyrics: English Translation: Go, go, go, my love Go quietly and go peacefully Go to the door and fly with me (Chorus) Go, go, go, my love Go quietly and go peacefully Go to the door and fly with me And may you go safely, my darling I wish I was on yonder hill 'Tis there I'd sit and cry my fill 'Til every tear would turn a mill I'll sell my rod, I'll sell my reel I'll sell my only spinning wheel To buy my love a sword of steel (Chorus) I'll dye my petticoats, I'll dye them red And 'round the world I'll beg my bread Until my parents shall wish me dead (Chorus) Go, go, go, my love Go quietly and go peacefully Go to the door and fly with me
