Kai Hatto is the drummer that replaced Jukka his buddy,Kai was formerly of Wintersun, Jukka was the enthusiastic emotional drummer from Wacken 2013 concert - Ghost Love Score :),who decided to work behind the scenes due to his clinical insomnia .

What has impressed me about Floor, beside her incredible talent, since I discovered her (and Nightwish) in 2019, is she isn't in any way arrogant. None of the band members are either. It's really unheard of in the music business in this part of the world. Another point about Floor, and especially Tuomas as well, is they love what they do and it shows on stage. You can't fake that kind of joy. The rest of the band too. Emppu's smile is infectious. It wrecks me knowing Marko has lost that joy. I really hope he finds it again because a music world without Marko is not as it should be.

From what I can tell you, being Finnish myself and having always been involved in the metal scene here (which is absolutely massive btw), arrogant people don't get far. All the best bands are people who do it for the love of music, who are really passionate and pour their hearts out in their music. And it really shows in what they do. Plus they pretty much all tend to be nice people, to whom status never mattered anyway. And if you like stuff like Nightwish, I would also recommend the band Turisas. They're sadly underrated but really fun.

Emppu and Floor mess with each other. In another video he unplugs her in ears during one of the songs. She replaced his beer with apple juice that he hates.

I've already watched this video in which Emppu disconnects Floor's in ears. However, in a recent Fun Friday, Floor belies the history of apple juice. Emppu's beer is sacred, she wouldn't dare, Holy Grail, period. =) Well, despite being taller than Emppu, the fact that he is a black belt maybe weighs something, LOL. =) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iN5ogLqeuqyoZX0.html

I think, with Floor, Tuomas has found someone who can allow him to become fully unchained as a composer. Her versatility, range, and the colors she can add to her voice allow him to write anything. As much as I love Tarja, I am not sure even she could sing a song like Shoemaker or Procession with the vocal dexterity Floor posseses. Basically, having Floor in the group unlocks Tuomas' beast mode.

Emmpu, the Electric Hobbit Kai is known as the Human Metronome. Troy is the Bard Marko is the Viking Floor, the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy and last but not least Tuomas, the Metal Mozart.

Kai Hahto is the drummer for Nightwish, he was the drummer for Winter Sun until Jukka his friend and the previous drummer for Nightwish left the band due to medical problems, acute insomnia. Went to management.

A fellow KZfaqr pointed out something about this specific video that warms my heart. You see Floor go to stand with Tuomas and sings "conquering the darkest places" right to him. There's a reason for this. The next song after this in the set is The Poet and the Pendulum, an extremely difficult song for him emotionally; it came from his darkest place.

@3:21 Emppu passes behind Floor and touches her, as we know Emppu likes to do with his bandmates as a show of support. But you see Floor flinch a bit. She is so wary of Emppus pranks. It's like the Big Sister/Little Brother relationship I have with my own sibling, and reminds me that Nightwish really is family, and not merely business partners. Marko has been a professional touring musician for 35+ years...he’s done his time. As much as I’ll miss his presence in the band, I can’t blame him for retiring, whether temporarily or permanently.

@@christinaalgate4899 That’s when Tarot’s first album came out, but they were performing prior to that, under the name Purgatory from 1982 until the record company wanted them to change their name before that 1986 album came out. So since 1986 would be 35 years...since 1982 would be 39 years.

I understand that. But on the other hand, Troy is older than Marko and he is still active... I understand that Marko got p*ssed off by the behind-the-scene of the musical world and companies that "run" it, but I still wish he would reconsider. Which he said that he might reconsider some time later. From some videos and reactions, it looks that he became depressed during 2020. But at the end, he has to do what is best for him and his fans (including me) have to and should understand his final decision. Whatever it will be. He is and will remain one of my favourite metal musicians.

We spend a good amount of time in theory and harmony learning how to avoid abrupt modulations. Tuomas, however, is not a “follow the leader” type of guy! His wonderful mind said “I want that modulation here, right now, and I want it abrupt!”. The result... we’re caught off guard and amazed. Great reaction today Christi.

Hahto was a member of the grindcore band Rotten Sound. Hahto then recorded with the band Wintersun as a session drummer before joining the band. Hahto has contracts with Meinl cymbals, Pearl drums and equipment, Balbex drumsticks, Roland V-Drums and Finfonic earpieces. On August 6, 2014, it was announced that Hahto would be playing drums on the upcoming Nightwish album, in place of Jukka Nevalainen, who had to take a break from the band due to insomnia, Hahto has played all the live shows since then. On July 15, 2019, Hahto became Nightwish's permanent drummer due to Nevalainen's decision not to return to the band

One thing you didn't mention is that the "We were here" lyric and melody reappears in "The Greatest Show on Earth." Also, they have a song called "My Walden" on the same album. The album is called Endless Forms Most Beautiful, which like "The Greatest Show on Earth" is a book about evolution. So all these connections give the album a strong unity.

You said it perfectly. Em-poo. That is his nickname. His full name is Erno Matti Juhani Vuorinen. He loves to walk around the stage when he is not playing, and he reaches out to acknowledge his band mates. It is amazing how Tuomas can take a very simple and basic folk/rock styles song and add so many little twists and turns to once again make it anything but formulaic. This song is almost a soft folk/rock song, but has several key changes and very extreme dynamics, which once again makes it unique in it's own special way. I loved your reaction and commentary Christy! As usual spending some time with you always puts a smile on my face. Peace and love. 🙏✌💖😊

Nowadays Kai Hahto (Jukka Nevalainen's dear friend) plays drums in Nightwish. Also in this video. Jukka was the original one and I still love to watch older Nightwish songs where Jukka handles those sticks beautifully and more he is a showman behind drums 🤘 I just love him playing drums.

That drummer is Kai Hahto. He's been with the band since 2014, when Jukka (the previously amazing drummer who looks like an epic pirate) had to resign due to ongoing chronic insomnia. Jukka is still with the band, but in a managerial capacity. So while he has left playing, he hasn't gone away totally :) Kai is very good, very technical, probably more so than Jukka, but Jukka definitely had a lot more flair and energy that he put into the performances, made even more amazing by the fact that he was suffering from chronic insomnia, so he was probably dead on his feet most of the time. My hat off to him!! If you really want to see Kai shine, I recommend checking out 'Wintersun- Sons of Winter and Stars' where he absolutely dominates! ;) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/itJlh5CY0brIiKs.html

@@thomaslilly9558 He actually has been trying, and he said in an interview that he was trying to incorporate that into his playing. It didn't always go well. There's a recording (Rock in Rio, maybe?) where he's twirling the stick and it slips from his fingers and hit's Floor XD

I would like to make a suggestion, which I think it's right up your alley because there are lots of singers in just one "song" involved, so I hope you can find the time to react to this TOP LINEUP OF MANY MUSICAL INTRUMENTS/SINGERS: The Source is the 9th studio album from *AYREON* which you've done 2 times about a year ago), a progressive metal/rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen (Ahr-Yun) Anthony Lucassen, released on April 28, 2017. *_The Day That The World Breaks Down_* is a song that features all 11 (quite well known) main guest singers (you’ll be surprised) and is taken from that album. Arjen himself is telling (in subtitles) who the singers are and which instruments are used and by which standards. Btw. This creative original clip is 13 min. long and I think you won’t regret it !! That key change part has always been my favorite part of this song. Although I didn't know it's a key change, bc I know nothing about music, I just love to listen it 😅 I remember one reactor who heard it for the first time and thought it might have been a mistake they made 😄

At the beginning, the roar of the "football" crowd! They are having so much fun, the interaction is infectious. Jub jub bird, Tuomas loves movies and nature, Walden of our own, "We were here!" (Used in the other tracks from the album, adding threads to pick up later, "Greatest Show On Earth"). Emppus "Rock On" gesture to Troy after their duel. Tuomas and Floor yelling at each other, "Yeah!"

The JubJub bird was basically a beast with malice as its only feeling, from what I remember. In this case, it makes me think of things that want to hurt me, or just fears. Thank you for doing this one - it's my favorite of theirs, but almost never chosen for a reaction.

I'm a proud member of the Nightwish army, and proud to have been among your early subs and patreons. I knew you were/are special. And as a lifelong musician, I knew you were going to flip out when you heard the abrupt key change in the third measure of the final chorus! I did also. Tuomas having fun, I figure. Expect it from Steely Dan, not Nightwish ! And the "we were here" in this reminds me of the "we were here" that we all sing together at the end of Greatest Show On Earth. I see that other commenters have answered about Kai Hahto, he is brilliant, and was one of Jukka's drum teachers. And Floor's breath control reminds me of Johnny Mathis, Bocelli, k d lang - and Myles Kennedy, whom I have mentioned to you. Great reaction and analysis.

Great thing that you notice all the band members interaction with each other. Their love and respect for one and another are part of what makes them such a great ensemble. In particular the musical interaction between Emppu and Try is magical in this video and if you have a closer look; you'll notice Troy making a mistake at the beginning of his whistle session and Emppu turning around to look at him. When finished with his guitar playing he gives Troy the sign of the horns as approval and acknowledgement. Priceless.

Kai Hahto is the current/new drummer of Nightwish. He has for a long time been a drummer of Wintersun. And if you have not listened to them yet you really should react to them. Especially "Sons Of Winter And Stars (TIME I Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios) REMASTER" - It contains amazing singing by Jari Mäenpää. And when listening to his singing, consider that he during his military service he developed tuberculosis and lost 25% of his lung.

Marko will be missed. I wish nothing more than for him to regain his 'center' and health. Mental health is completely under funded, looked at with disdain, and short on resources for people in crisis. It is a testament to the band that they are being so supporting given Marko's struggle. ;

Nightwish's current drummer is Kai Hahto. It would well be worth listening to his other band Wintersun where he really shows off what he can do... The singer for Wintersun Jari lost a quarter of his lung capacity from TB, but you will be amazed at what he can do...the song "Sons of Winter and Stars" is one a lot of people go for when looking at Wintersun.

The drummer in this song is Kai Hahto, also drummer of the band Wintersun, he replaced the former and original drummer Jukka Nevalainen who had to retire due to insomnia issue. Kai is the actual drummer. You should be more confident about you memory, you pronounced perfectly both Emppu and Troy :)

Nice reaction :) The next from them is a virtual concert in May, the world tour is set to happen later this year but I'm not very optimistic about that with how things are going :( I believe North America is scheduled at October Since you mentioned Marko leaving (sadly, he won't be in the incoming virtual concert in May either), I think you should definitely do some more songs that highlight him as lead vocalist. One of the greatest is The Islander, live at Tampere. If you can, pick the longer video which has him talking at the audience and joking around, it's pretty funny ^^

Hi Christi, could you react to Nightwish playing Yours Is an Empty Hope from Wembley and Ayreon's Cosmic Fusion from Into the Electric Castle? Floor uses pretty much every single technique she's capable of in the Nightwish one, while Simone sings her highest note ever on the Ayreon one

It's impressive that they managed to make such a startling (in a good way) key change in a song where they'd already used the same key change (the intro, interlude between the first and second verses, and ending are all in G minor; the rest is in E minor). I think the rest of the key changes go through a D-chord on the way, but the abrupt shift from an E-minor chord to Eb-major mid-chorus (where we've been trained to expect a C-major from the previous choruses) is so unexpected. Elan is another song where they use key changes really effectively; I think they actually use four different keys in that one, with one abrupt change that I would not expect to work well at all on paper and yet it somehow does.

NW definitely became an all-pro ensemble: only the 2 original members remain, Tuomas and Emppu, the rest were well-accomplished peers when they joined. Marco is one of Finnish metal's pioneers, Floor had a dozen year stint with the acclaimed After Forever, an awesome (reaction-worthy) symphonic metal band , and several other notable projects, including her own ReVamp. Kai, the drummer, is very highly regarded in the metal community, most notably for Wintersun, frequently making the lists pf top metal drummers, and has stellar teaching reputation. Troy was not as widely known, but well -regarded session player. It will be interesting to see which direction they go with the new bassist. When they made that switch 20 years ago , it was a massive upgrade from a hometown acquaintance to an all-star..

I wish Marko would reconsider his decision. Some other bass player could mimic his playing, but nobody could replace his stage presence and his voice (goodbye Endlessness, Islander, While Your Lips Are Still Red, Ghost River and a few dozens other songs where he sings/harmonizes with Floor or with Floor&Troy). At the end, I wish him the best in his life, but it still pains me as a metal fan.

They are all at the top of the talent tree aren't they? I said it before, each one of them could lead any band (any place and any time) to stardom, let alone all of the together. They have been, are and will be magic. Floor does have the lungs of a deep-sea diver. People close to her are known to say that she takes a breath every Friday morning.

There was when Artists survived whit and even earned with their art - now especially singer/songwriters and bands get the crums that fall over music sharing services. And their record/ product selling.. I don't download, I buy dvd:s or download from their places. I get less earworms, but feel better...

In this song we celebrate the end of the melancholy, the victory over the fear of the threat from the Jubjub bird. The Jubjub bird is that dangerous creature mentioned in Lewis Carroll's nonsense poems "Jabberwocky" (1871) and "The Hunting of the Snark" (1876). In The Hunting of the Snark, the creature is described much more deeply than the other. It is found in a narrow, dark, depressing and isolated valley. His voice when heard is described as' a scream, shrill and high 'like a pencil squeaking on a slate, considerably frightening those who hear it, including the beaver, who' turns pale to the tip of its tail '. characteristics include being "desperate" and "living in eternal passion," "knowing every friend he has ever met" and not "looking at a bribe." The Jubjub bird also appears in Tim Burton's 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland as a giant black bird resembling a vulture and a speckled hen with a red head, long yellow beak and blue tongue. It is first seen when it captures both Tweedledum and Tweedledee while trying to escape with Alice. It's not seen again until the Red Queen unleashes the Jubjub Bird on a rebellious crowd. During the final battle, after the Mad Hatter's intervention, the Jubjub bird joins in to fight for the Red Queen, but later its head is crushed by a giant boulder from a catapult.

I am so sad that Marco leaves...the best voice of this genre and can not be replaced by anybody. The present drummer - Kai Hahto - is a friend of Jukka Nevalainen who is doing manager tasks in NW and not drumming anymore. Only Tuomas and Emppu are left from the very original group (actually Tarja was the third very original and Jukka almost). Emppu is actually Erno Vuorinen and his guitar is EV1 custom therefore (in 16:54 at the 12th fret almost visible tag).

That key change (major to major) was indeed almost mid-line. As jarring was the change in the level of intensity.... that horse not only shifted into a charge but it entered with a buck. The equivalent of kicking into a flat-out sprint at the end of a 10 k walk. Enjoy the videos. We all do. It's the small interactions that make the large performance work, for me. More workplaces could benefit from that level of reinforcement.

I really didn't like metal until I heard Nightwish. Now I like some of the really heavy and dark stuff. A journey for sure, with Nightwish to thank for it all 😬 Tuomas loves his fantasy references so a jub jub bird being a jabberwocky sounds spot on to me 🐦🐦🐦

Thanks for the analysis. I'm not sure what a key is, mostly, but it's good to know *why* that vocal part worked so well (...saddened faces -strumstrum- conquering the darkest places...). I don't hear the key change in the instrumental part you mentioned, but I don't really know what to listen for. Learning about this stuff certainly adds to the fun and adds to the enjoyment of the song.

Kai is the drummer since Jukka retired because of severe insomnia. I can understand completely, as I was getting almost no REM sleep, due severe, chronic, sleep apnea.

joyous metal? most would say that was a dichotomy yet that is the overall feeling I get when either present with them live or just watching them in a live recording. The energy is totally different to pretty well any other band I can think of and you know what, I think that is a part of Marcos decision to walk away and that shows the considerate nature of the current lineup. Miss him we will but he shall not be forgotten!

Tuomas and the other band members loves natural science, and science loves Nightwish (there ara also new found species named after Nightwish, after Tuomas and after Floor.)
