It's a deep rabbit hole you're going down. This is a concert from 2013, when Jansen was new to the band - I'd say it worked out OK. The band was in top form, and every song from this concert is amazing. Toss in "The Greatest Show on Earth" and you have a hefty fraction of their best music. Then there's all the other stuff that Jansen has done outside of Nightwish . . . she's probably the best voice in rock, and has been for the past decade.

... Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. Yes! Passionate Floorgasms. You don't get that Emotions with Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber. She stays high up on a note for a long time and she can growl like a Wolf. Tribal, Yours is an empty Hope.

'They sound like there are 20 people behind them' ..? Its symphonic metal and their songs are backed up by the entire London philharmonic orchestra (and choirs sometimes as well). Not live of course. But that is what you hear. If you are really new to Nightwish, you have quite some catching up to do, man! I really recommend it and you won't be disappointed! At least take a few songs of Gabriel's list. Thanks for doing this!

I just love the background you have :D You are right about Nightwish fans, we are very passionate. Nightwish is a very special band. The composer Tuomas Holopainen has an ability to paint the most amazing musical scenery with so many colours and styles. Ghost Love Score is a more theatrical type song and I often say it´s the most beautiful song in the universe. I wish you well on your Nightwish journey :D

Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! Gabriel Bardac entered ! Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 5 octaves (Eb2 to F5) She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. And Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken ( pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival. This song was from their 2004 album, "Once", which was recorded with their first singer, Tarja Turunen. It was Tarja's last album with them. It was a majestic masterpiece then.... This version raised the bar out of this Galaxy! London Philharmonic Orchestra and London Metro Voices Choir recorded the backing track... HUGE indeed! Tuomas, on keyboards, IS GOAT - THE Metal Mozart, poet, composer, Ocean Born, Ocean Soul, Dead Boy, Dead Poet!!! I think it's a bit funny to call Tuomas GOAT - because the /a Finnish word for "goat" and "keyboard" sounds similar (when spoken quickly) to a non-native speaker!!!.... Gabriel's info is right! Awesome reaction and background, i need more! Floor was only 10 months with the band. She joined the band in the middle of the tour and had to learn the setlist in 48 hours. There is a nice documentary about it. Nice to watch (but to long for a reaction vid).

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Nightwish has a HUGE back cataloque and history since 1998. It is really worthwhile diggin into it, explore the 2 former singers (they were/are really great in each their own way). Ghost Love Score was originally sung by Tarja Turunen when she was the front singer (until 2005 - sad history about her getting kicked out) - but take a look on the live version from 2005 (End of And Era). Then you see where the operatic style, that Floor uses, is originated from. That said - Nightwish have never been as popular as since Floor was hired as frontsinger - her versatality in unquestionable. Cheers Jesper - part of NW-army since 2000 🙂

At this Wacken 2013 concert there are 4 band members from Finland, composer and Keyboardist, Tuomas; bassist, Marko; lead guitar, Emppu; drummer, Jukka. Singer Floor Jansen is Dutch and the third, and for many, best singer as she sings 15 songs here none of which were written for her. And a sixth musician, multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley from the UK not seen in this song.

Nightwish is Finnish symphonic metal band formed 1996 by Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards, writer and composer of songs), Erno Matti Juhani ”Emppu” Vuorinen (guitar) and Jukka Nevalainen (drums in this song, but the current drummer is Kai Hahto). In 1996 they asked Tarja Turunen to be their singer. Many people make mistake that Tarja is one of the founders of Nightwish, it is not true. She is the first singer. Anette Olson was the second singer. The current singer is Floor Jansen.

Nightwish with Floor Jansen are probably the most diverse and versatile band in the world, and Certainly one of if not the BEST. The Drummer here is Jukka, bass is handled by Marco, Keyboards is Tuomas and Guitar is Emppu, there is a sixth member Troy Donockley who plays Uillean Pipes, Low Whistle, Whistle and Bazouki, he also plays guitar and now sings with the band. At the time of this concert Troy and Floor were guest musicians, though invited to become full members around the time of Wacken and announced when the Wacken DVD was released, it is one of the Classic Rock concert DVDs.

NW doesn't make fillers, nor are they looking for a hit song. They are musicians who love to perform, they can bring it live (imho better than in the studio) and they have a composer. i love your enthusiasm about this song. The use of different rhythms is remarkable (weird 4/4 and 3/4 in intro, later 4/4, after break 6/8 and so on). Also, harmonies require more than one voice :-) where you mentioned harmonies there was only Floor (and she sounds like more than one voice).

Due to it, that I am originally from Austria, I heard the first time from Rammstein in 1997 with the song "Engel". The vocalist is a licensed pyrotechnician, but I am not sure if you like industry metal. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7mRlJanqMXSYp8.html There you can see, how far it can go. Also sorry, the guys are performing in German. You do not have to react, but you can. The Rammstein-Army is minimum same strong as the NW-Army, I only hope no one starts to fight. Doesn't have to be a reaction, but you definitely need to watch the End of an Era version. There's lots of sweet harmony that they didn't include here because it was too subtle to be heard over 80K + screaming. Same with Elan and Noise. Nice little outros on the official vids, just not conducive to keeping the flow going at a big concert like that. ( Double reactions with studio and live as well as old Tarja live + Floor live are cool. ) Awww I don't mind kitteh :)

I really used to like this band until the singer was sexually assaulted onstage and the band members did nothing, just standing around letting it happen, and when they fired another singer because he was pregnant, but when I was reading an interview last month about how the bass player that left over a year and a half ago due to depression and he said he has not talked to anyone in the band since, that was really the final off switch for me.
