Hello Darin [Im Darin] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and very recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. Found them a year ago and they quickly became my favorite band of all time. Absolute greatest live performances. They are all so talented that their live performances sound better than their studio recordings. Saw them live in May and was blown away. Greatest show I have ever seen in my life. You can't go wrong with pretty much any song they do live. You'll be pleasantly surprised that no two songs sound exactly alike, but they will somehow still sound like Nightwish. Floor is amazing. Pretty much anything from this show (Wacken live in 2013) is absolute gold, but there's a lot of great stuff out there. Gabriel will have a list for you, but I think my favorites might be Storytime and Everdream, but its all amazing.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal and Nightwish. Her name is Floor Jansen(Yan-sen), the 3rd and current female lead singer. This is only a fraction of what she, and the band, can do. Floor had only been with the band about 10 months at this show, having taken over mid tour. As you will see, every song is different, different styles, different singers, and different instruments, but all are awesome. Their studio stuff is great, but the EXCEL at live. GLS was song #13 in a 15 song set, and that energy you saw was present throughout. I would recommend Romanticide or Storytime next. But whichever song you choose to do next, please see the comment from Gabriel Bardac , he has great links to a lot of their songs.

"WHY HAVEN’T I HEARD OF THEM BEFORE?" You can probably 'thank' the American Music Industry for their protective and commercial actions, keeping songs to a 3-4 minute limit, as well as keeping foreign influences at bay when creating the song/set lists for their music stations.

Nightwish is Finnish gift to metal music and Floor Jansen (vocals) is "God's" gift to Nightwish. Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) writes and composes this beautiful Nightwish metal music. The current drummer is Kai Hahto but in this video the drummer is Jukka Nevalainen, Kai's good friend. I just love Jukka's drumming and his style. I miss him so much because he's not drumming anymore🤘🥁💕

I have watched A LOT of Nightwish reactions, and this just became one of my favourites. The way you just STOPPED when Floor started singing was adorable. Like, "Darin.exe has stopped responding. Would you like to close the program or wait for it to respond?" Awesome. Always heartwarming to see someone get blown away by Nightwish.

Today, October 1st, is the 10 year anniversary of Floor Jansen (singer) 1st performance with Nightwish. She replaced the previous singer mid way thru the US leg of their World Tour on 48hrs notice!! THAT was one of the the most realistic FIRST TIME LISTENS I've ever seen 🤣 Floor Jansen is in a class by herself!

There are hundreds of European metal bands that are superb musicians and produce wonderful music. I also never heard of them until my son introduced me to Manowar and Hammerfall. That led me to explore similar music and finally to the European metal scene. Sadly, the American music scene is controlled by a small group of corporations, and if the music doesn't fit their mold, then it does not get airtime. 'The Wyldeside with Eric Clark' is a reactor who is a long time DJ and has explained this in detail on his channel. European metal bands run the gamete from folk metal to death metal. There is something for everyone if they just look for it. If you want more, I would highly recommend Ayreon (a project that includes artists from a dozen bands), Sabaton (music based on actual historical events emphasizing honor and valor), Kamelot, Epica, and Blind Guardian. And those just scratch the surface.

Nightwish is one of multiple ecxellent European bands that haven't really made it to America on a popular awareness basis, altho many are aware and they gig here...Sabaton and Epica are probably near the top of this list as well

If you want heavier, you should do 'Romanticide" or 'Yours is an empty hope', live off course. If you want beautiful, you should do 'How's the hearth' accoustic live at planet rock. If you want epic, you should do 'The greatest show on earth', live off course or 'the poet and the pendulem' live. And there are so much other songs worthy of your time! Nightwish is LEGIT one of the best live bands you can ever see. IMHO, their live songs outshine the studio versions.

I'm a 57 year young Hard Rocker from birth on 😃. Going to live shows and festivals from my 16th. Nightwish is just THE best band especially with Floor. I was at this festival in Wacken 2013, also THE best festival in the world (for me offcourse)......Once you hear Nightwish it's becoming an addiction 🤭. Next stop live again in Antwerp 20th November, can't wait 🤘 By the way, I never manage to keep it dry at their concerts and I'm mostly not alone then, just such an incredible band
