One of the signs of a great composer is that the song is equally good (or better) when it's been pared down to the bare basics of guitar and vocals. Of course, it helps if you have a great musician on the guitar and one of the greatest voices ever singing. Three side notes about crying to Nightwish songs: First, I'm a cynical old man but I often shed a tear to Nightwish songs. Second, I read a review by a Finnish journalist who had listened to the album at the press viewing back in february deep in the Finnish forests. His conclusion was that the entire album was a masterpiece and that he cried like a baby after many of the songs. Finally, I was typing as I was listening. Then Floor turned on the afterburners at 3.50 and I could no longer see the keyboard through the tears, so I had to wait a few minutes until I could finish my comment. That woman is a miracle. Tuomas is a true miracleworker.

@@mikegershon8528 I'm 47 and stopped listening to music almost completely after metal was replaced by grunge in the 90's. Then about 5 years ago, a random post on reddit asking about metal bands with singes who sing rather than scream, led me to the 2013 nightwish show. I had meant to just listen to a couple songs to see if it was any good and ended up sitting through the entire show, probably with a really stupid grin on my face. That was it, I was completely hooked on symphonic metal and metal in general again.

@@TheVigiIante No, I don’t agree :). But I wholly understand why some metal fans, or Nightwish fans, or even ”general good music” fans don’t like it. There are no ”hits” on this album. I hated Harvest at the first listen. I still don’t like to listen to it, but after listening the whole album I totally understand its place on the track list. The solo album was good with most parts. More mellow. Some great music in it. But I didn’t like the excessive use of spoken word. And it was repetive. But if you mean with the comparison the second part of this album... well. The solo album was better. There are lots of similarities. But if we are talking about the whole album, this is great. It is not easy. Or poppy. Or might not even be progressive enough for some. But the last album that made the same kind of affect on me was released in 1995 (I did remember the year wrong afterall in my first comment). And the 1995 album wasn’t a metal album :). And Nightwish as band didn’t even exist back then. Totally different genre(s). And it still is a masterpiece after all these years. I’ll hope this Nightwish album will too.

@@fiorelainen623 Interestingly, for me was Harvest the track that put me into this album as I was quite dissapointed with Noise. It´s different, just as any other NW albut has its own style. But i love it more and more, especially Music. I don´t understan why people call it "poppy" as it shows the structure of prog. Just because it is not "hard" enough?

The studio version of this song is just okay for me, but as an unplugged performance this is top-notch. It's been 3 weeks since I discovered this band and my chronic depression is lifting and I feel like I'm waking from a zombie trance. Nightwish's music is changing my life, quite literally. Get it, kings!

It's just unbelievably beautiful. I don't know whether I should be happy or sad that I only found this woman's music a while ago. As a fellow Dutchman I feel embarrassed. Now I've spent much of my free time listening to Nightwish (and to a lesser extent After Forever) for over a month. Better late than never I guess?

The concept of "supergroups" is an old one. You get a couple of talented musicians from various groups, usually bored with their current status and, sometimes, with egos aching to get away from the "little people", so they talk to their equally "suffering" buddies and say "hey, we should team up and make something together"...and it seldom actually works out. Then sometimes you get a perfect storm, a lightning-in-a-bottle, a mad scientist's secret formula come to fruition. Maybe it just happens, maybe it takes a struggle to achieve, but to have SIX wonderfully talented musicians in a single group able to work together and compliment each other to create such wonderful and powerful pieces of art...DON'T CHANGE A F***ING THING!!!

I am an empath. I even may have something more, something special about it because I can unconsciously feel other people's feelings. And most of the time this is what i want to ask to them, "How's the heart?" Everytime i listen to this song, I feel like Floor with her vocals and Troy with his guitar, they're asking this question to _me._ A question I don't get so often. And by that, this song really gets me. It's human. It's something sometimes we should remind ourselves. 'How's the heart?'

It's always the live versions where the real musician shines.. Because live you have perform the song as whole, as a work of art, not like in the studio where you can record in pieces, splice the best takes together...etc. But to perform live the musician must really be in control of the whole piece, and that is where the true masters shine...
