The bagpipes (there are several types) derive from instruments of north african origin (some believe from ancient Egypt). They were taken to many places throughout Europe (supposedly by roman legions). They became very popular in Scotland but we can find instruments of this type in several countries, if not most of countries in Europe. You can certainly find bagpipes in Portugal, where I'm from. Nice reaction! Always glad to see some more Nightwish! 😃

These are Uilleann Pipes are Irish Bigpipes. "Uilleann pipes" translates to "elbow pipes" in English. My Brother plays the pipes. We are American Irish. All of our Great Grandparents are from Ireland. 98.7% Irish according to DNA. We belong to our local Irish Society. 💕🙏🇺🇲

Highland pipes are from Scotland,, Uilleann pipes are from Ireland…both bagpipes, just different varieties.

You do have to pump a bellows with one arm to fill the bag on the other side which controls the pressure and it has one chanter plus regulators and a drone Used to be called Union pipes at end of 18th century and only called Uillean pipes at start of 20th century.

We need to talk bagpipes. If it’s got a bag and pipes it’s a bagpipe. The great highland bagpipe is certainly the one that everyone recognises and is set to something close to b flat mixylodian scale which is probably why it’s not played with other instruments and it goes out of tune when it get hot/cold/damp Troy plays Irish pipes which are an awesome instrument. I think it still has 3 drones which lie flat but also has a set of keys that you play with your wrist. Most countries in Europe have some sort of bagpipe but they may have originated in the Middle East Anyway maybe check out the treacherous orchestra or skerryvore for some highland pipes in a rock environment.

They ARE bagpipes. Scottish bagpipes fill the bag by blowing on a tube .. Irish bagpipes fill the bag by pumping .. in both cases you fill a BAG and the air flows out of PIPES

You are correct that those are not bagpipes, those are Uilleann pipes. You are however wrong about there being just the one pipe, there's actually 6. There's a bag on the left just like with babpipes, but a bellows of sorts under the right arm that fills the bag under the left arm. Now you know :)

What! Lol also the short pipes are used in Scotland as well. And no it has as many drones they lay over the arm instead of the shoulder. The ones Troy uses are of the Irish type short Pipes called the Villeann pipes.

The Uilleann (pronounced ill-in) pipes are Irish Bagpipes. They are just as you said, played by pumping the bellows under your arm as opposed to blowing into the bag. They are much sweeter sounding than traditional Scottish pipes and are much more difficult to play as Troy has said many times.

It's normally the smaller bands that produce the greater emotions live on stage as they're just loving being there and enjoying what they do, and I speak from experience too with Nightwish. Maybe one day they'll get to headline one of the major festivals over here as they deserve it. Just a shame that they're not appreciated by the majority

I don't know that bagpipes are that uniquely Scottish in Spain in Galicia and Austurias they have the gaita gallega and the gaita asturiana, then you have the Bulgarian kaba gaida or the Turkish tulum all of which are also worked with a mouthpiece and produce a more or less similar sound.

Actually Ullean pipes use two bags, the right side one supplies air to the left side one, that one pressurises air to the whistle.

Actually they are considered bagpipes, they're called Ullian(might have mispelled that) and they are from Ireland, quite correct. They don't have the breath fed bellows like Scottish pipes, and if I remember correctly, they have a wider range than Scottish pipes. Or I'm completely wrong. Happens a lot to me too! Oh yeah pretty good song from.that obscure Finnish band, guess you really had to work to get an interesting reaction out of it.

I enjoy the sarcasm, but I can’t help feeling attacked by the satire/irony since everything in your monologue is true if you flip it. I keep an eye on your channel all the time…. Under what rock have you've been living under for the last 25 years my friend? Nightwish, is one of the best symphonic metal bands alive at this day and age. Question: do you know the band " Queen" ( Freddie Mercury)? If you do, then you know that in the seventies and eighties they were the most renewing and refreshing band ever. The same goes for Nightwish, but then in the period of the mid nineties till today. And what you're saying about them performing for a few hundreds of people, is simply not true. The gig you're reacting to here was performed in front of an attendence of about 150,000 ppl over 3 dys. I don't want to burn you down, but please get your facts straight! Oops!........
