Troy was a touring musician for NW since the first Anette album but he became a 100% official member in 2013 with Floor. The weird instrument is called uillean pipes, are traditional Irish pipes. About the crowd, they recorded the show in several venues, but at the end they published the whole Buenos Aires show in the live CD/DVD because of the crowd, they was outstanding. The show before this in Bogotá Floor was very sick but she managed in some way to perform, in fact she performed good. Here she was still recovering, so this is Floor in a not so good day, but nobody noticed, she was amazing as always.

Troy Donockley "The Bard" (is an English composer and multi-instrumentalist most known for his playing of Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone). Donockley was born in Workington, Cumberland; his parents were members of a band called Travelling Country. At the age of 16, Troy joined them, playing at many venues in West Cumbria. His father's record collection was broad and gave his son a love of classical, rock, country as well as traditional music. He is a multi-instrumentalist and a master of the Uilleann pipes. His ambition as a teenager was to travel the world as a musician, but he hated "empty pop created by cynical twerps". The strangeness of the sound of the Uilleann pipes enabled him to become a session musician with prog-rockers The Enid in 1987 on their album 'The Seed and the Sower'. Donockley's first appearance with Nightwish was on their 2007 release, Dark Passion Play, as a guest musician, providing some whistles and pipes to the songs "The Islander", "Last of the Wilds", and "Meadows of Heaven". He also joined them on select shows of the subsequent tour and appeared in the music video for "The Islander". In 2011, Donockley appeared as a guest on Imaginaerum, providing whistles, pipes, and vocals. He joined Nightwish again on the Imaginaerum World Tour, and also appeared on the band's concert DVD 'Showtime, Storytime'. He also appears in the Imaginaerum film from 2012 as a stage illusionist. Following the conclusion of the Imaginaerum World Tour, Donockley was made a full-time member of Nightwish in October 2013 (Same time as Floor did). He provides the main vocals for Nightwish's single ‘Harvest’, released in 2020. This was unusual for the band, as main vocals were usually provided by Floor Jansen. Appreciate your thoughts as a South American! And you're absolutely right, especially in the rock/metal scene we are definitely the CRAZIEST crowd but never ever disrespectful. We just want to enjoy the concerts as much as we can and we're very glad the singers and bands appreciate our energy (I have seen some rare bands that don't like the fact we know all songs by heart - no matter what the language of the song is - and sing them, they would prefer a mute crowd or something I guess, but most of the time you know it's just because we love your music and want to live it with you).

If you want to see them get this same crowd to calm down react to Dead Boy’s Poem. A ballad, but in epic Nightwish form. Floor melts brains with her vocal performance and the crowd is chanting her name at the end 🤟🤟🤟

Agree with the score, another great and fair reaction. It was song 13 out of 21 in the setlist. People tend to get hung up on scores, but less technical or epic doesn't mean bad. Honestly sometimes more simpler straightforward songs are easier to engage with as a listener and meant to get the blood pumping or in this case also to let the crowd have a moment to let their energy out.. As far as how good this band is as live performers/musicians, I am convinced they can make playing 'the wheels on the bus' while Floor is singing the dictionary work when they are on stage.

Troy Donockley is playing the Uilleann pipes which is the national bagpipe of Ireland. Troy Donockley was asked to officially join the band at the exact same time Floor was back in 2013. He is not on stage for every song, but since Marko's departure, he has become more and more involved not just with singing, but with more and more instrumentation. Troy Donockley is also in a band with Tuomas Holopainen (Nightwish keyboard player) called Auri as well, with Tuomas's wife Johanna Kurkela who does a majority of the singing for Auri.

Yep, the Uilleann pipes are the national bagpipe of Ireland. The bag of the Uilleann pipes is inflated by means of a small set of bellows strapped around the waist and the right arm. You don't have to blow the air in like with the more famous Scottish bagpipes. So, as Troy says, you can have a drink while playing. The tone of the Uilleann pipes is unlike that of many other forms of bagpipes. The sound is sweeter and quieter than many other bagpipes.

Marko is a fantastic singer...Check out Nightwish's cover of "High Hopes", or "The Phantom of the Opera". Also in "The Islander" he shines, but it's a softer song.

A few things: It was 12th on the setlist out of 20 songs. The concert was in the 2018 Decades tour, not 2019. The title on the video is wrong. Troy has been a full member since 2013 and started as a session player in 2007. He was made a full member at the same time as Floor. Apart from the pipes, In Nightwish he also plays a variety of whistles, guitar + EBow, Irish boukouki, plus he plays a bunch of other instruments that he does not use in Nightwish. Floor was recovering from the flu at this concert. We can hear it in her voice when she speaks. If you want to hear Marko solo in Nightwish, then listen to "Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red" (Wembley) or the "Islander" (Tampere). To hear Troy solo, listen to "Harvest" on their latest album. Marko has been a leader singer in his band "Tarot" so he's no stranger to the role. David, the word you were looking for is PASSIONATE....That's right..Like that...In capital letters..Because that's what the crowds in South America will always show you, no matter what kinda event they're making their presence in (being an awesome metal band concert, a fierce soccer match, or whatever they happen to like diehard), they will always be loud, enthusiastic, like your said, but above all, passionate!...You can ask anyone from Metallica, to Evanescense, to Epica, to Pink Floyd, you name it 🙂 They all have had the same experience Nightwish is having in this concert...Nothing but love and passion...Even when Floor was feeling so sick through their performance in Bogotá, their enthusiasm, their love and passion were always there.. And Floor expressed it in one of her comments to the KZfaq video from that concert... Awesomeness all over... 👍

I can’t describe the feelings while listening to Nightwish songs. At the same time, joy, happiness, sadness, optimism, emptiness, belonging, alienation and so on are mixed. I am simply left at the mercy of my feelings to fight them. No band can create such an eruption of emotions in me as Nightwish and that is why they are for me the best band in the world that exists.

Thanks for the fair review. I enjoyed Troy's pipes, Floor dancing and the band having fun with the energetic crowd. No pitchforks required I am sure. Marco singing is always good. Troy sings harmonies/backing vocals on many newer songs, particularly now they are sadly touring without Marco. Watch for him also helping Floor with a few Grunts and Growls which occur in The Greatest Show on Earth. The 2 Planet Rock acoustic sessions (How's the Heart and Nemo) with only Troy on Guitar/backing vocals and Floor singing are also both very good.

You need to hear the tribute to Pink Floyd - High Hopes. Marko is killing that one. Amazing. And Emppu's solo is also amazing.

It is one of my favorit Nightwish songs. Mostly because it’s a easy mood changer. I totally understand your score even in my book it has a higher score. I appreciate the creativity in not just the composition. Here I think it was just as creative to bring the ullian bagpipes as it would have been to have a more complex melody. That brings out just as much feelings as some of the vocals. That said with 3 not only good vocalists on stage but 3 very very good ones even if Troy here is not the best ,he has developed a lot. Wrong, Troy donockley is an oficcial member since 2013 , he became a full member at same time as Floor , and since that he played in all songs , flutes , whistles , guitar , bouzouki , uillean pipes ( irish bag pipes ) . See the shows , at wembley , tampere, and buenos aires and troy is always there . In wacken he was on stage only in 3 songs , greetings from Portugal. 🤘🤘

Troy is playing Uilleann bagpipes, which differ from Scottish pipes in that they are bellows filled, played with the elbow. They have a full 2 octaves compared with Scots pipes,and are more difficult to play, but with a more subtle, complex sound. They're more recent and originated in Ireland in the 20th century. Expected more on the lrics here from David. Specifically because it is about rekindling those tears and joy that some many outgrow. Fits very well into this channel and David's feelings on the power of music. The simple score ecompasses those same ounger uplifting feelings.

Not to worry, the Army is for the most part very patient, we'll wait for Islander, Poet and the Pendulum, Master Passion Greed, Planet Hell, The Voice of My Father, etc., etc., etc. before we hold you to a rating of Marco's incredible vocal talent. Another thing to pay attention to with Marco's singing is that the more technical the vocal part, the MORE his hands seem to be moving on the Bass. And yes, Troy does sing in addition to the bus load of instruments he plays. Also, early on, Tuomas also did some singing, another Army member has a "story" as to why he doesn't any more. Also, I'll agree that this is a deviation from the Epic nature of the songs you have already enjoyed as well. Side note: Empuu is pronounced "Em-poo", don't worry, you're not the first to struggle with it, and I'm pretty sure he's not going to use his black belt skills on you for it. Great Reaction, DH! When you posted this, I was actually watching this very show on youTube. Your notification hit in the middle of 'Elan'. It's a great set list if you're ever looking for deeper tracks. As for this song, how can anyone not like it? It's a treat to watch it played in front of a big crowd and the 'fun' actually masks some pretty nice technical elements. At some point, you'll run across Troy playing electric guitar with an Ebow. In fact, that'll be a song that truly showcases Marco's vocals. Keep the Nightwish reactions coming!

Troy plays a lot of flutes so that microphone comes in handy anyways 😉 It was on this tour that they really started working with three part harmonies - mainly in reworked older songs, from before any of these vocalists were in the band. The Decades tour featured a lot of rarely played old songs (instead of a Greatest Hits approach) as the bulk of the set. The harmonies also influenced much of the most recent album HumanNature. So it's especially sad that Marco stepped down from the band before they got to tour with it :( Only silver lining is that the stronger involvement in vocals of Troy prepared him to cover much of Marco's parts now!

I love The Islander at Tempere! Marco really shows his vocals in a different type song that I think is amazing.

No hate from me, I can understand why this may be your least favorite so far, despite being a great song. Not all of Nightwish's songs are massive, epic compositions, it's just that those tend to be the fan favorites and most requested. This song, I think, you understood exactly the point of it: it was a semi-profound message, but mostly just a song for having fun with. If you had fun listening/watching, you got what you were supposed to get. :)

The trick with pronouncing Finnish names is to pronounce both vowels separately when they are next to each other. The Guitarists name, Emppu Vuorinen is pronounced more or less "Empoo Voo-oh-rinen".

Try Phantom of the Opera live from the End of an Era DVD. That was the original singer Tarja's last gig with the band. Great voice. But just check out Marco. Mind blowing. I am partial to this because it was my inroduction to Nightwish.

It's important to remember a concert needs a number of songs that are a bit less intense to let people cool off a bit between the most epic songs.

It’s as much a ballad as you’ll find with NW, so you’ll also get a chance to see whether NW can get the SA crowd to calm down (you mentioned that it was hard to do) ;) As much as I adore the Wacken show, it was really fun to see you react to a performance from another show, because you also comment on the difference that nationality of the crowd makes as a performer. Oh yes Troy is allready since Wacken '13 FULL member of Nightwish, was more or les "cooperating" before but was proclaimed full member together at same time with Floor (after that big success concert)... Troy Donockley, standing joke "plays everything but Hockey" :) His special instruments are Uilean Pipes (type of bagpipes where you pump by elbow), Bouzouki (mandolin like), different Whistles etc.

Troy Donockly is playing the Uilleann pipes, the Irish bag pipes. And yes he is an official Nightwish member same time as Floor. And he also sings. Not much but he does. He is singing a little more now that Marco has left. It's almost criminal that Night wish has so much talent.

Marko has great vocal performances in songs such as The Islander, While Your Lips Are Still Red, Phantom of the Opera, High Hopes and others in Nightwish concerts and also his work with other bands such as Tarot, Delain etc. plus his solo work like "The voice of my Father". All these are on KZfaq.

My suggestion is another cover of them, which we hardly see on KZfaq. And if you like a heavy Nightwish sound, this will be a very nice one. Marco is singing solo on this one. Check out their cover of Megadeth, symphony of destruction. Enjoy it, and I with you!

I wish your Frozen Serenade review of Lovebites would of been live as well. You would of been impressed, and given better score. it was even snowing in that performance, while Asami was doing ballet! I agree about your score. This is not in top 10 of Nightwish songs for me, but it is a good song.

Floor's voice is better live than in studio. Incredible!! The only other singer I know who can do the same is Noora Louhimo of Battle Beast. Yannis of Beast in Black's voice is unbelievable in the studio but live it 'loses' a bit because he is running up and down the stage too much. But next to Marko he has the best male voice. When Nightwish is on tour with Beast in Black in 2022, maybe he can join Floor on the stage for one song (or two!)...??? Would be fun for all, for sure...
