It is a pity that Marko has left Nightwish in 2021 mainly because of health problems. He is such a great singer and bass player and had been with Nightwish for about 20 years. He had many duets with Floor but also some songs where he is the lead singer: High Hopes (tribute to Pink Floyd), While your lips are still red (Wembley 2015) and The Islander (Tampere 2015).

Well, happy processing... You just experienced Nightwish with one of their heaviest songs. And you now heard Marko really for the first time. He has a truly amazing voice, he is extremely versatile as well, and he blends so perfect with Floor. Their harmonization in some songs is just stunning. And he shines not only with the gritty stuff like here. Watch him performing much more softly and folky in 'The Islander'. He will leave you speechless. This song explores themes of disillusionment, heartbreak, and the destructive nature of love. The lyrics depict a sense of emotional detachment and a feeling of being misunderstood by others.

Before Nightwish, Marko founded the heavy metal band Tarot with his brother. Both were lead singers there and became successful in Finland. The band still exists today, with interruptions: TAROT - Wings Of Darkness (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) Marko only joined the band in 2001 and unfortunately left in 2021 due to depression. Originally he didn't want to make music anymore, then he just didn't want to tour anymore. Most recently he toured South America. Solo he makes prog metal. We pray in our good night prayers that he comes back: MARKO HIETALA - Dead God's Son (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO) His voice generally fits well with female voices: EXIT EDEN - Run! feat. Marko Hietala (Official Video) | Napalm Records Fun fact: Marko used to want to appear more international and therefore changed the spelling of his name to the American Marco. Later he thought it was pretty idiotic and wrote to him again today with K. There are now two different spellings in circulation.

Hello RedheadedNeighbor, you’re pretty right describing the song title. More precisely Romanticide is about things you do that destroy your romance. Realize; every song composed by Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) is a story (not necessarily autobiographical, but often so). And afterwards, what goes through your mind when everything you ever hoped for is in pieces? Then you think back to the high expectations you had of this friendship, this relationship: "High Hopes" live at the 2005 'End of an Era' concert. (last concert with their 1st female vocalist Tarja Turunen)

Marko Hietala is highly respected and much loved in Finland as one of the pioneers of metal in that country. He was with Nightwish for almost 20 years and is now out on his own. Besides his Nightwish work which includes some wonderful songs mentioned by other on this thread where he takes the lead, Marko has his own band "Tarot" (the song "Tides" is a favorite from that band) and is a founding member of the supergroup "Northern Kings" made up of premier Finnish male vocalists. In 2020 he came out with his own solo album "Pyre of the Black Heart" and I would suggest that you listen to the song "Voice of my Father" from that album. Plus, there are rumors that he is coming out with another album this year. Definitely an artist worth taking a serious look at.

@@redheadedneighbor Hey Red, while Gabriels list is great and so is his contribution but we have no "general" no one person appointed by anyone to be the single representative for this massive NW fan base on YT,while we appreciate him taking over for ANn W. she never allowed any reactor to think that she was to be their single source for song recommendations,links,venues, etc. because that essential makes the rest of us obsolete in regards to making song suggestions and the best venue performances, we "ALL" contribute equally and a great many have some great info and recmndtns ,cheers, one big example is his list has "Yours Is An Empty Hope" for the Mex City venue, while 99% of the rest of us say Wembley(London) 2015 is far far better for audio,video,stage & performance

This is a good introduction to heavier Nightwish. There is an incredible breadth to their catalogue, from Folkish sounding songs to straight Metal. Marko is a wonderful singer in his own right. You will see him feature on other heavier songs like Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean, or on HIgh Hopes, the Pink Floyd tribute. Another good heavier track from Wacken is Song of Myself. Enjoy the ride.

If that song does not epitomize the act of tearing up a relationship and throwing it to the four winds, I can't imagine what does the job better. Metal is not metal is not metal is not every-metal. Symphonic metal brings an additional punch (that of the entire brass and or string section hitting alongside the rhythm section AND it tends to have the most amazing vocals, imo. btw, I WAS going to show off some of my dentist-chops by ID'ing your two teeth with tiny chips BUT THAT WOULD BE RUDE ON MY PART, lol. srs, tho... that was one of the longer drop-jaws I've seen... don't overstress those ligaments that hold you lower jaw in place. Here’s what’s special about this 2013 concert: Floor had only recently joined the band, and was not yet an official member of Nightwish. All the songs performed here were written for the two previous NW front women. So what we get are some of the best songs of Nightwish up to this point in time sung by a Floor at the largest metal festival in the world, being professionally recorded for Blu-ray Disc production. Being new to Nightwish, my best advice is to react to every single song from this concert. They are all reaction worthy and will give you a great foundation on which to grow your NW experience.

This song is Like a Coffee with Red Bull .... On Steroids 🤘❤‍🔥🤘. This song is my coffee in the morning !!!! The “scream” at the end is called a glissando, going from low to high and back, for classically trained singers this is an exercise to warm up the vocal cords, so Floor will do this probably every day before breakfast . AND,...Floor has 3 distinct styles. Head banging(straight forward, then back), hair whip(almost like cracking a bull whip) and the Windmill(continuous 360 degree revolutions). Why Windmill? Well she is Dutch. NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

That face at about 3 minutes in and my thoughts turned to what you're about to witness later. 😂 Marko is such a good singer and a sad miss now that he's left the band. His harmonies with Floor and also with Troy as well were so good. If you want to go from this, one of their heavier songs to the complete opposite then Elan would be a good choice. There's actually a music video for that song. Or if you want to hear Marko sing solo then I'd highly recommend The Islander Live at Tampere, that's a really good version.

Watching a good reaction is brilliant - it reminds me how I felt the first time I heard each of these amazing songs - all of Nightwish's songs still blow me away every time, but that 'first time' astonishment is pretty special, isn't it! Gabriel's list is a good guide, but if you fancy a diversion, check out Floor's collaborations with Simone Simons and Epica - 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa' and 'Sancta Terra' are particular highlights. Keep doing what you do, Beautiful Lady.

I've only got one thing to say: Best. Banshee. Wail. Ever. 😅 By the way, "romanticide" means "the death of romance," not a toxic romance. While toxicity is what can lead to the death of a romance, romanticide is usually what results when some action, usually a betrayal, kills romance and/or relationships outright. There is no slow death, it's an immediate death. I say this because the person betrayed usually feels like a pawn in a game, and emotionally, feels anger and rage at being betrayed. Thus, romanticide is similar to homicide in the sense of murdering romance, if you will.

Marko is almost as versatile as Floor as a singer, he can sound both really demonic and really gentle and anything in between. Btw, that scream in the end is known as "the Floor-raid siren" 😁

In this concert, there's a production part where Marco is setting the stage with a spoken part. It sort of describes a guy coming home after his companion has prepared a complicated meal on their anniversary - and he has gone out by himself for a local meal (someone tell her the actual spoken words - I don't remember them well enough since it's been a little over 10 years). The jist of it is that the companion has had enough and this is a breakup song - Romanticide best describes the killing of a romance.

A bit much to take in first try perhaps, one of their wilder songs. Try "The islander "in Tampere, Finland, lead singer= Marco with Floor backing him up. Very poetic song,you'll love it.
