Poet And The Pendulum was the song that got me into them. I like 10th Man Down and Nemo now, but when my friend first got me to listen to Nightwish with those songs it was like a quirky addition to my playlist that wouldn't last long. and the only Nightwish songs I really skip are a few on Angels Fall First, yes, but Elvenpath is still one of their best.

I'm sorry that you didn't include all songs. I'll be curious to know where you would put Sleepwalker from 2000. That' s the very first song I've ever heard from them and instant fun.

Picking my favorites would be sooo hard to do, I wouldn't even want to try. There would probably be at least ten songs that would be tied for first place. Ha! I'd have to go with categories: Five tied for first place, five tied for second, five tied for third, etc. Quite of a few of your bottom feeders are my least favorite, as well, but some of the ones you placed higher up the scale I dislike, and would've gone below your lowest ranked. But...to each their own. Everyone will have their own opinions, of course. Great job on a daunting task!

That must have been a difficult lot of sifting, some of my favourites you had at the beginning ( the worst end) but like you said it’s your list, your choices. I can agree with you about the top end though.

Was Amaranth in there? Must have missed it if it was - the first song I heard from Nightwish, and the one that got me into them. Dark Chest of Wonders is my favourite, though listening to this list, I might have to revisit their entire back catalogue.

I started listening to Nightwish in my midteens (this was around '04- '05), and my favorite song of all time by them is Bless the Child, just that choral intro sucked me into it in a matter of seconds

while I don't agree with your list, with very few exceptions, I like pretty much all of their songs. you definitely lean towards tarja, I like all 3. Floor can sing it all, tarja and Annette each have 1 style. nightwish is pretty much all I listen to. thanks for your list!

For me with Nightwish albums, my personal order from worst to best (excluding their Over the Hills And Far Away EP): -Angels Fall First: I know, everyone starts somewhere, but I just really don't like it...the production's not very good, Tuomas's singing voice is...ugh... Tarja tries SO HARD to harmonize with...whatever he's doing. Amazing songwriter/musician/composer he may be, but amazing singer he AIN'T. -Oceanborn: Well, it now sounds like Nightwish, but it's forgettable for me, outside of a few moments. It's just bland. But you can hear their amazing sound rapidly developed from the first album! Now you can see their potential! -Every Form Most Beautiful: Has some cool moments (Yours Is An Empty Hope being one of them), and it's by no means a bad album, but it just falls short from trumping the competition that is the rest of their discography. Plus, Floor's potential wasn't fully unlocked, here. -Imaginaerum: Great concept, has some amazing songs, but it's...missing something. Scaretale will always be one of my favorite Nightwish tracks. -Human :||: Nature: This album grows on me more and more. I originally was put off at it being a double album, where one CD was great songs, and the other was this meditative, atmospheric instrumental music. Floor's epicness was also unleashed pretty good on this! -Century Child: Great from start to finish! A couple relatively weak tracks on it, but the weak tracks are still greater than a lot of bands best songs! -Wishmaster: A massive improvement from Oceanborn! They expanded their sound, and made their songs catchy and hooky! Emppu's guitar playing is so solid! The ending to Wanderlust is the only time I ever teared up at the emotion of a song, and that album cover's just so cool! -Dark Passion Play: This is THE album that got me into Nightwish. I had known and loved a couple other songs of theirs, but this one made my jaw drop. Hearing Amaranth for the first time was one of those cosmic experiences of being mindblown, getting goosebumps, and going "THIS IS THE BAND I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!!" I can see why Tarja fans hated it. Anette has a poppish voice, and it's a VERY rapid change from Tarja's massive, haunting, siren voice that Nightwish fans had grown so accustomed to. But MAN is it a solid album from start to finish! -Once: This is the pinnacle of Nightwish. Jaw-dropping from the opening-spoken word, to the very end! Songs like Ghost Love Score, Nemo, The Siren, Dark Chest of Wonders, Wish I Had An Angel, Planet Hell, and Higher Than Hope ALL on the SAME ALBUM?? And it's not even a greatest hits compilation?! Definitely their best!

Damn no love for Tarja… I’m the opposite- I love floor and respect her and love that she can bring old NW songs back to life. But for me Tarja will always be the best at the original songs - I do adore Annette and Floor for their contributions tho (especially Poet/Last Ride and Elan). But idk for me, the new NW songs are kinda bland. It’s not Floor’s fault, she does great with what she’s given. But at this point they feel like an angsty cover band. I’d rather them get back to their symphonic roots - or maybe that’s just the orchestra kid in me lol 🎻

Well I disagree with this list a lot. The Tarja era albums and tracks are the good ones and the best. When Anette and came and they released Dark Passion Play it was the beginning of the end for the band.

Ranking the albums 9. Endless Forms Most Beautiful ( It's a huge letown) 8. Dark Passion Play ( This is the album that killed Nightwish forever.) 7. Human II Nature ( It's freaking boring, dull and has no Nightwish atmosphere. Terrible album) 6. Imaginearum ( Not a good album either but at least it has some good tracks) 5. Angels Fall First ( Great album with lots of great tracks. Elvenpath, Beauty and the Beast, the title track and lots of others.) 4. Oceanborn ( Epic album with all amazing, great, very fast and memorable tracks from start to finish. It's a fantastic album) 3. Century Child ( This is awesome from start to finish. Lots of impressive tracks like Bless the Child, End of all Hope, Dead to the World, Ever Dream, Slaying the Dreamer and lots of others. It's a remarkable album) 2. Once ( The entire album is fantastic with lots of epic tracks. Pure gold of an album. Incredible album from start to finish. When you listen to an album like this it's really a shame that didn't continue playing like this. Those pass albums just can't be compared to this greatness. This is a masterpiece from the first track to the last) 1. Wishmaster ( This is a masterpiece of an album complete with incredible tracks. Epic album.) Tarja was the greatness of this band after she left the band totally lost their talent sadly. Dark Passion Play is the album that killed this band, it was the beginning of the end.
