With the unveiling today of the brand new Mercurial Superfly 7 and Vapor 13, Nike made a strong statement of their commitment to innovation and excellence. Less than a year and half after Nike overhauled the most popular soccer cleat in the world, they’ve introduced new technology that has made one of their best cleat silos even better.
The Mercurial Superfly 6 and Vapor 12 were the most beloved versions of Mercurial that Nike had made so far, both from consumer response and player feedback. The self imposed challenge that Nike had to tackle was that of improving a cleat that was almost perfect. Never a brand to dwell content in their success, Nike set about to make improvements in Mercurial’s fit, comfort, and of course, speed.
Enter an all new type of Flyknit. While the Flyknit used in the previous version of Mercurial did an excellent job of wrapping around your foot in a 360 degree fashion, the knit itself still needed protection from the elements. Nike achieved this with their ACC coating technology which, unfortunately, added a bit of weight and less flexibility in the upper. All that has changed however with the creation of an all new high tenacity yarn and the the thinnest Nike ACC skin ever.
The new Flyknit yarn is more durable and lightweight than the previous version and shaves around 9% off the last generation’s weight. When combined with an incredibly thin ACC coating, the Mercurial upper feels noticeably softer and more flexible than ever. It’s a huge breakthrough that is sure to be appreciated by both Mercurial die hards and players testing the silo for the first time. In addition to a lighter, softer upper, the Superfly’s upper also sports a slightly lower dynamic fit collar.
Mercurial Superfly and Vapor have always been known for some of the most aggressive traction in the game, and this Mercurial is no exception to this. Nike have taken an already impressively responsive soleplate and have fine tuned the materials to be even more responsive. This update allows the Mercurial wearer to get more energy return when sprinting and cutting at full speed. Taking feedback directly from Cristiano Ronaldo, the plate also features slightly longer studs than before.
While Mercurial players might demand the highest performance from their footwear, they also want to look good performing in their cleats too. Mercurial Superfly 7 and Vapor 13 check all those boxes and more.
