Played soccer religiously from 1996-2009 and these shoes in 2002 were real show stoppers when they came out. Overnight half of my soccer team had these shoes (growing up in the shadow of Nike world campus and having half of the parents employed by Nike probably had something to do with that), But yeah there was nothing like them and they were so light. These was basically Nike's first succefull soccer cleat. I don't remember ever seeing a Nike soccer shoe before these.

Best boot I ever had. Tight as hell, but the feel for the ball was unmatched. And yes, as said in video they didn't look flashy. But if I remember well, when slightly wet and under sunlight, they started to show some rubin and green sparkles

They did! The sparkle was a mix of yellow red and blue/green if I remember right with the yellow being most prominent. Had a pair myself

The first Mercurial was in 1998, but in 2002 came the first Mercurial Vapor, which is the model that stuck.

in 1998, it was called only Mercurial. then comes the vapors, superflys etc

The electric blue colourway of these is one of the all time great boots. I think you're right josh when you say they're the most important boots of the 21st century though i reckon the T90 III are in with a shout. No one had made a power boot quite like it up and till then. Then there's the game changing 2010 adizeros which were absurdly light for the time

The first editions of Mercurial were just fantastic, also the build quality you mentioned, never had any trouble, also the match mercurial was a great boot. I were vapors since the release in 1998 and in my top 3 the mercurial 2 is still second after Vapor 4 SL. Nice video as always!
