Oh Panditji, I now know why you never sang. You had the sitar do it for you! The sounds flowing from your instrument resonate deep within my bones. And I wasn't even paying attention.

In modern post Independence India , there wee 3 stalwarts in playing melodious sitar with technique to the perfection viz. Ustad Vilayat Khan who made sitar to sing , Pandit Ravi Shankar who introduced westerners Indian Sitar & third Nikhildaa with his purist devotion playing from quiet start and slowly building the" Ragini " to the perfection. His quiet handling was unique. I was fortunate that I could listen to all these great stalwarts while in Pune and New Delhi , You go to गंगा मैय्या in a boat at Varanasi and listen to the quiet flowing music on पूर्णिमा or even on अमावस्या , That was superb quality of his sublime music , Unfortunately he died at relatively young age of 54. Salute & tribute his great Memory. Regards

@@sadashivkamath6876 ... to my westerner´s ear and soul , Pt. Nikhil Banerjee is second to none ... that feeling of purity and sweetness of the experience when listening to his recordings has never been fully repeated when listening to any other sitar player, past or present... (save perhaps for Ud. Shujaat Hussain Khan - but that is a wholly different type of experience (equally exsquisit, though) ....

Not Komal notes. Notes are all Shudha, natural and the use of Tibra Ma sometimes as in Ga Ma (Tibra) Ga which is the Bihag Ang. Its araho is Audav and avaraho is Sampurna Re and Dha omitted in ascending. All notes in descending.

Magnifique !!

The Bach of sitar..he was. you must have a very good understanding of the music before you can relate to it. He was a musician's musician. The greatest among the sitarists and a wonderfully creative musician.

you don't need a good understanding of music before you can relate to it. You need that only to understand it. Everyone can connect with music on a deep level, it does not need to be intellectual.

The first composition lasts approximately 1:34:00. The second composition is incomplete (ends during mid-performance). Despite these minor shortcomings, it is indeed a great pleasure to hear such (long / extended) performances where the musician is not under an artificial time constraint, and therefore has the luxury of exploring the nuances of the ragas to the fullest in an unhurried manner. Any additional information such as date & place etcetera will be greatly appreciated.

I can't figure out this performance's relation to the carnatic form of raga shivranjani. .. it doesn't seem to follow the zig zag pattern SRGMDPNS rising or falling... sometimes Ma is 'natural', sometimes 'sharp' .. anybody got a clue?
@masterbikram7 жыл бұрын
Thats Raag Maaru Bihag. Where both the Ma is used. The major and the minor. Major while ascending and Minor while descending.
