Just imagine trying to read pace notes at those speeds and beyond. Include trees, slippery roads and people and then you can truly appreciate the true masters of the sport.

And that's why Group B was the golden era of Rally and modern WRC will never be. Case closed.

The drivers and spectators knew the risks and accepted those risks willingly. That's all, including the tragedies, part of what defined Group B and what makes it extraordinary. Toivonen, Vatanen, Kankkunen, Rorhl are all known to be quoted for it, I'm sure other drivers as well).

***** No, you're the one being confused ... or just plain ignorant. Vatanen almost died and still drove even more Group B rallies afterwards; so hell yeah he was accepting the possibility of dying and not seeing his family anymore; all drivers were !

Nobody ever said/claimed deadwish; don't put words in my mouth. And no, the drivers did not back away from Group B after the incidents, eventhough they were the first to warn about the risks involved (before the deadly incidents).

Transcription from 0:55. Malmedie (left) is M. Schelle, the driver, is S: M: "You do the start yourself, I'll press it" S: "And then we go. Ok. Three, ..." [driving] S: "Ah. Fuck. Wasn't that great, it could still go better. Matthias, I'm sorry. I'm not quite one with the thing yet. Can that be?" M: "Are you completely nuts?" S: "But there's something [special] to it, right?" M: "Dude..." S: "We could've done more, at times, eh?" M: "You know what I was wishing for at times? A HELMET! S: [chuckles] M: "After the first two meters, I was only like 'GIVE ME A HELMET' ... Dude, this is totally insane!" S: "Yeah, it's wicked." M: "Old Swede!" [German idiom; in this case equivalent to "Dude!"] S: "You have to imagine..." [accelerates] M: "Yea yea yea, it's fine" S: "You have to imagine, normally the co-driver would be reading out loud where to go. Can you imagine... or rather, can you imagine actually understanding what you're being told?" M: "Ey, that's... one can't describe what is happening in this car. I think... that was the very first time that I was sitting in a car and wasn't telling any stories. Because I couldn't. Because I didn't want to. Because I was solely focused on surviving. L’ing. Lombardi ha compiuto l’ennesimo miracolo ingegneristico con un un motore che è un prodigio assoluto. È un vero peccato che la delta ECV2 non abbia mai corso ufficialmente perché il suo motore “triflux” era qualcosa di assolutamente pazzesco.

Ich weiß es ist respektlos aber dennoch klingt das Auto schon immer wie ein alter Trecker der zusätzlich mit extrem vielen Bohrmaschinen und Akkuschraubern betrieben wird... der Sound ist so krank... aber auch ich durfte mal so etwas fahren - das ist unvergesslich!

Una dura lezione per la Germania che si presentava con un audi a dir poco vergognosa e si la lancia s4 era un astronave da marziano in quel campionato... peccato che la dovettero togliere dalle gare era una vera furia... il video è il saund spettacolo ma raccontata da due tedeschi e vergognoso anche perché al ritorno sbaglia mettendo una marcia troppo alta e per poco nn gli muore sotto... italy come te nn cera nessuno...
